Coach Chris Van Timmeren
Chris Van Timmeren begins his eighth season as head coach. Last year the team finished with a record of 26-4-0. This record included a MCHC Tournament Championship and a
fourth place finish at the ACHA National Tournament. Including last season, Chris has led Hope to six consecutive winning seasons, and has an overall record of 149-54-7 for a winning percentage of
71% as head coach.
Since taking over as head coach, Van Timmeren has taken the Flying Dutchmen to
the DIII National Tournament in all six years that they have been eligible
since joining the division. The six-year streak is the longest in Division
III. Hope has never finished lower than fifth in the Nation with three fifth
place finishes, two fourth place finishes, and one runnerup finish.
Hope has also taken three MCHC tournament championships, and one MCHC regular
season championship in Van Timmerens seven years. Chris has been voted MCHC
Coach of the Year twice in that time as well. He was also the American Collegiate
Hockey Association Coach of the Year in 2006-2007. Hopes team has
a 96% graduation rate since he took over.
Chris was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Mich. where he played hockey at Grand Rapids Christian High School. He is a Hope College alumnus, and was integral in starting Hopes hockey team as a
junior. He played two seasons before graduating with a bachelors degree in Geology. Chris began coaching as an assistant during the 1999-2000 season, and took over as head coach the following year,
making for a total of 10 years with the program. Van Timmeren currently lives in Holland, Mich. and works in sales. He is assisted by former Hope players Jeremy Pearson (5 years), William Schubert (4 years), and his younger brother Scott
Van Timmeren (1 year).
