Dutchmen Finish Fourth at Nationals
The Flying Dutchmen were defeated by Northwood 5-4 in the consolation game of the American Collegiate Hockey Association national
tournament on Saturday. The team's second consecutive loss put Hope in fourth place at the national tournament and with a 26-4 season record.
Flying Dutchmen Bow in National Semis
The Flying Dutchmen were defeated by Kennesaw, Ga. 5-0 in a semi-final game of the American Collegiate Hockey Association national tournament on
Friday. The loss puts Hope (26-3) in the consolation game for third place on Saturday.
Lopsided Victory Advances Dutchmen to Semis
Six first period goals propelled the Flying Dutchmen to a 10-1 victory over
Indiana University of Pennsylvania at the American Collegiate Hockey Association
tournament
in Fort Wayne, Ind. on Thursday.
The Flying Dutchmen (26-2) advance to the semi-finals of the 16-team national
tournament against Kennesaw State of Georgia (24-8) at 4 p.m. Friday. Kennesaw
defeated Calvin of the MIAA 5-2 Thursday in another quarterfinal game.
The other semi-final game will pit Northwood of Mich. (24-3) against Northern Arizona State (17-8-1).
Eight players scored a goal as the Flying Dutchmen got off 61 shots in the game. Gunnar Martin and Brian Gatliff each scored two while scoring
one apiece were John Hatfield, Peter Volbrecht, Austin Sonneveldt, Ryan Kelly, Jonathon Shaver, and Ryan
Sweet.
Credited with assists were Jonathon Shaver (2), Chris Strauss, Kevin Nelson,
Jordan Winfield (2), Gunnar Martin, Steve Reid, Austin Sonneveldt, Jeff Guy
(3), Peter Volbrecht, Ryan Kelly, Andres DeJong, Patrick Newhall, and Ryan
Sweet.
Goalkeeper Mike Headley turned away 26 shots.
Flying Dutchmen Open With Victory
The Flying Dutchmen stormed to a six goal lead and then coasted to a 7-2
victory over Central Florida University in a first round game at the American
Collegiate Hockey Association tournament in Fort Wayne, Ind. on Wednesday.
Hope scored three goals in both the first and second periods before yielding
a pair of goals in the third. Scoring two goals each were junior Brian Gatliff,
senior captain Jeff Guy and junior Jonathon Shaver. Also scoring was junior
Gunnar Martin. Senior Peter Volbrecht had three assists. Others credited with
assists were Jeff Guy (2), Anders DeJong, freshman Austin Sonneveldt, Gunnar
Martin Peter Volbrecht and Chris Strauss. Two of Hope's goals were scored when the team was shorthanded.
Hope (25-2) advances to Thursday's quarterfinal round against Indiana University of Pennsylvania (20-4). Hope entered the
16-team tournament as the top-seeded team from the North Region while IU Pennslyvania is seeded third from the Mid-Atlantic Region.
