MIAA Honors Freshman Nicco Lamb (10/6/08)
Flying Dutchmen Extend Unbeaten String to Ten (10/4/08) Hope led 2-0 at intermission and then exploded for six goals in the second half behind a 20-6 advantage in shots. Kevin Bartosek scored a pair of goals while getting one apiece were Andrew Nichols, Jack Abe, Nicco Lamb, Anthony Palazzolo, Shaun Groetsema and Samuel Kelly. Credited two assists each were Kevin McMahon and Sam Joyce. Goalkeepers Andrew Goorhouse, Ross Bailey and Logan Neil combined for the shutout.
Dutchmen Win Close to Stay Unbeaten (9/30/08) The Flying Dutchmen never trailed but twice after building a two-goal lead relinquished the advantage to a Trine goal. Goals by Nicco Lamb and Anthony Palazzolo gave Hope a 2-0 lead in the first half. Trine cut the lead to 2-1 at the intermission break. Jack Abe, this week's MIAA offensive player of the week, scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season to put Hope ahead 3-1, but Trine answered again to make it a one-goal game. Hope ended with a 20-5 advantage in shots, including 11-3 in shots-on-goal. Justin Bailey assisted on two goals. Goalkeeper Andrew Goorhouse made one save.
MIAA Honors Senior Jack Abe (9/29/08)
Flying Dutchmen Remain Undefeated (9/27/08) Box Score The Flying Dutchmen remained unbeaten by defeating Kalamazoo with a come-from-behind 2-1 victory in the season's MIAA opener. Trailing 1-0 late in the second half, coach Steven Smith's Dutchmen scored twice in a 14-minute span to improve to 5-0-2 on the season. Scoring goals for Hope were senior Jack Abe, unassisted in the 77th minute, and freshman Nicco Lamb in the 82nd minute assisted by Ausable Schwiebert. Hope outshot Kalamazoo 14-4. Sharing goalkeeper duties were sophomore Andrew Goorhouse and freshman Logan Neil.
MIAA Honors Senior Kevin McMahon (9/15/08)
Flying Dutchmen Remain Unbeaten on Season (9-13-08) The Flying Dutchmen broke a 1-1 halftime tie with goals by Kevin McMahon in the 50th minute and Jeff Stusick in the 70th. Hope's first half goal was scored by Jack Abe. Credited with assists were McMahon, Justin Bailey, Chris Harrison and Nicco Lamb. Hope ended with a 23-9 advantage in shots and 13-3 edge in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Andrew Goorhouse made two saves. McMahon was named the tournament's outstanding defensive player. Kenyon was declared the tournament champion on the basis of goal differential. Hope and Kenyon played to a 1-1 tie in their game. Kenyon's three-goal win over Bethany on Saturday surpassed Hope's two-goal margin of victory over Wilmington. Sadly, senior John Turner was lost for the season when he suffered a broken leg when tackled early in the game.
Flying Dutchmen Play to Tie Again (9/12/08) Hope's lone goal came in the seventh minute of the game by senior Jack Abe off an assist from Ausable Schwiebert. Kenyon scored with 25 seconds left in the first half. The teams were scoreless in the second half and thru two 10-minute overtime periods. Kenyon held an 18-14 advantage in shots. Hope goalkeeper Andrew Goorhouse was credited with five saves.

Dutchmen Battle Wheaton to Scoreless Tie (9/6/08)
Flying Dutchmen Extend Streak to Three Games (9/5/08) The teams played through a scoreless first half as Hope held the host team without a shot while taking nine. The Flying Dutchmen got on the scoreboard two minutes into the second half when Chris Harrison scored off a corner kick with a double-assist credited to Justin Bailey and Kevin McMahon. Trinity tied the score with their first shot of the game in the 66th minute, but Hope answered just 85 seconds later on Kevin McMahon's header off an assist from Mitchell Currie. Hope ended with a 22-3 advantage in shots on goal and 10-1 edge in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Andrew Goorhouse had two saves.
Flying Dutchmen Win Bergsma Title (8/30/08) The Flying Dutchmen again displayed a balanced offensive attack with six different players scoring a goal against Goshen. On Friday it was five different players scoring against Aquinas. Scoring on Saturday were John Turner, Sam Joyce, Mitch Kinner, Nicco Lamb, Ausable Schwiebert and Anthony Palazzolo. Shaun Groetsema had a pair of assists while credited with one each were Jack Abe, Andrew Abe, Turner, and Mitch Currie. Three goalkeepers combined for the shutout -- starter Andrew Goorhouse (54 minutes), Logan Neil (30) and Ross Bailey (6). Hope held a 26-6 advantage in shots.
Flying Dutchmen Open With Win (8/29/08) The teams scored within two minutes of each other midway through the first half, but it was all Hope the rest of the way. The Flying Dutchmen held a 3-1 halftime lead and finished with a 15-7 advantage in shots on goal. Scoring goals were John Turner, Nicco Lamb, Drew Nichols, Ausable Schwiebert and Jeff Stusick. Kevin McMahon had a pair of assists while credited with one were each Schwiebert, Turner, Justin Bailey, and Gabe Courey. Goalkeepers Andrew Goorhouse and Ross Bailey each allowed a goal.
The Flying Dutchmen will be aiming to be right in the thick of the 2008 conference race while aiming to build on the most successful decade of Hope College men’s soccer. A year ago the Flying Dutchmen finished second behind rival Calvin in the standings of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and posted an overall 13-6-1 record. Through seven seasons of the new millennium the Flying Dutchmen have won nearly 80% of they games (117-34-10) with four conference championships and four appearances in the NCAA Division III playoffs. Coach Steven Smith begins his 19th season at the helm of men’s soccer program. He ranks among the winningest NCAA Division III coaches with a career record of 251-85-23. The pre-season roster includes 20 returning letterwinners, including five players who received All-MIAA honors in 2007. The team returns eight of its top nine scorers. Tri-captains of the team will be junior Chris Harrison of Plymouth, Minn. (Wayzata HS), senior Kevin McMahon of Grand Rapids, Mich. (Forest Hills Central HS), and senior James Trebilcock of Haslett, Mich. (Haslett HS). Trebilcock and junior Kevin Bartosek of Traverse City, Mich. (Traverse West HS) were named to the All-MIAA first team in 2007 while Kevin McMahon, senior Mitchell Currie of Fort Collins, Colo. (Fort Collins HS) and senior John Turner of East Kentwood, Mich. (East Kentwood HS) were All-MIAA second team selections. Senior Jack Abe of Naperville, Ill. (Naperville North HS) was an All-MIAA first team honoree in 2006. Trebilcock, Abe and junior Ausable Schwiebert of Chelsea, Mich. (Chelsea HS) were named MIAA players of the week in 2007. Other returning letterwinners include junior Justin Bailey of Portage, Mich. (Portage Northern HS), sophomore Ross Bailey of Ogden Dunes, Ind. (Portage HS), sophomore Riley Byrnes of Michigan City, Ind. (Michigan City HS), sophomore Ryan Cotter of Zeeland, Mich. (Zeeland East HS), sophomore Andrew Goorhouse of Caledonia, Mich. (East Kentwood HS), junior John Herbert if Culver, Ind. (Culver Academies), sophomore Andrew Nichols of Traverse City, Mich. (Traverse City West HS), junior Anthony Palazzolo of Warren, Mich. (DeLaSalle HS), and sophomore Aaron Van Andel of Ada, Mich. (Grand Rapids Christian HS). Five of the returning players were named to the 2007-08 MIAA Academic Honor Roll – Kevin McMahon, Andrew Nichols, Ausable Schwiebert, and John Turner.
