SATURDAY HEADLINES
The Lords of Kenyon have won an unprecedented 26th consecutive NCAA
Division III men's swimming and diving championship. With national championship
performances in 11 events, the Lords finished with 556.5 points followed
by Emory 404.5, Johns Hopkins 329, Williams 254.5, Denison 249, Carnegie
Mellon 189, Gustavus Adolphus 176, Washington, Mo. 172, Springfield 136,
MIT 135.5.
Three defending champions repeated on Saturday -- Elliot Rushton
of Kenyon in the 1650 freestyle, Chris Halstead of Emory in the 200 backstroke,
and diver Mike Shaw of Springfield on the three-meter board. Kenyon also won an 11th consecutive title in the 400 free relay.
Kenyon senior Elliot Rushton was the meet's only triple winner. He
set DIII meet records in the 500 freestyle (4:22.95) and 1,650 freestyle
(15:15.64) and won the 400 IM (3:56.06).
Double winners included diver Mike Shaw of Springfield on the one and three meter boards, Andrejus Duda of Kenyon in the
200 IM and 100 butterfly, Chris Pearson of Carnegie Mellon in the 200 freestyle and 200 butterflyand Davis Zarins of Kenyon in the 100 and 200 breaststroke.
Kenyon won four of the meet's five relays culminating their championship weekend with a gold medal effort in
the 400 freestyle relay behind a team of Andrejs Duda, Russell Hunt, James Berger and Thomas Ashby.
