Flying Dutch Top DII in Women's Basketball Attendance (5/17/11)
Exciting Hope College home sports action was again a crowd pleaser in 2010-11.

The NCAA has announced that in Hope led all Division III women's basketball programs in average home attendance during the 2010-11 season.

Hope also topped Division III during 2010-11 in attendance at its home volleyball (802 average) and men's basketball (2,8218 average) contests. No Division III member has ever accomplished this fete. Hope was also second nationally in men's soccer home attendance (983 average).

It marks the third straight year that Hope has been the leader in women's basketball attendance. This past season the team averaged 1,546 fans over 17 home dates. The average home game attendance among all 426 Division III basketball programs in 10-11 was 231 fans.

It is the fourth time since moving to DeVos Fieldhouse that Hope has been the DIII leader in women's basketball attendance. In 2005-06, the first year at DeVos, the team averaged 1,329 fans per game. In 2008-09 the team averaged 1,269 and in 2009-10 it was 1,138.

The Flying Dutch, who posted an overall 27-3 record, were 16-1 on their home court. The February 5th game against rival Calvin attracted the largest crowd, 3,433.

Hope five-season record at DeVos Fieldhouse in 96-2. A 77-game home floor winning streak came to an end on March 5th in an NCAA tournament game against Washington, Mo., 56-52. In 15 seasons under coach Morehouse, the Flying Dutch are 209-21 (.909) on their home floor.

The 2011-12 season with a home floor winning streak of 61 in-a-row. The season will begin on November 15 against Rochester. It will be the first of 12 regular season home games. A season highlight will be hosting the NCAA Division III Final Four on March 17-18.

Carrie Snikkers Named a WBCA Basketball All-American (3/18/11)

Senior center Carrie Snikkers of Jenison, Mich. (Unity Christian HS) has been voted an NCAA Division III All-American for an unprecedented third consecutive year. She is one of ten players being honored as a State Farm/WBCA All-American by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. The team was announced Thursday prior to the Division III final four which is being played this weekend in Bloomington, Ill.

Snikkers becomes the first Hope player (male or female) to receive All-America basketball honors three consecutive years and the first female player in the history of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) to achieve that fete. continue

Basketball Players Receive All-Region Honors
Hope senior basketball players Will Bowser (Midland, Mich./Midland HS) and Carrie Snikkers (Jenison/Unity Christian HS) have received All-Region honors. Both been been named to the All-Great Lakes Region team by the website d3hoops.com and Bowser has received first team recognition on the Great Lakes Region team of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). Both players led their respective teams to the championship of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and a berth in the NCAA Division III tournament. Snikkers is All-Region first team honoree for the three consecutive years.

Season Ends With Rare Home Loss (3/5/11)

In a rematch of teams that played for a national title a year ago, defending Division III Washington-St. Louis prevailed again over the Flying Dutch, 56-52. The loss snapped a 77-game home floor winning streak for coach Brian Morehouse's Flying Dutch who end their season with a 27-3 record.

After exchanging the lead 12 times, Washington opened the game to a 10-point advantage, 56-46, in the closing minute. The Flying Dutch were held to a season-low 28% shooting and only senior Carrie Snikkers ended in double figures with 23 points and nine rebounds.

The game was the last for five seniors - Lauren Geers, Erika Bruinsma, Carrie Snikkers, Miranda DeKuiper and Rachael Kutney. Hope's record during their four years was an amazing record of 117-8.

Showdown Set Between National Finalists (3/4/11)

An early tournament showdown between last year's national finalists was assured Friday as both Hope and Washington-St. Louis won their first round game in the Regional tournament being held at Hope's DeVos Fieldhouse. The defending national champion Bears won the night's opener over previously undefeated Denison, Ohio 71-55 and Hope followed with a 77-65 victory over DePauw, Ind. The victors meet Saturday with a 7 p.m. tipoff. The DeVos Fieldhouse ticket office opens at noon.

Hope led by six points at halftime, 39-33. DePauw scored the first two points of the second half, but Hope responded with an eight-point run and expanded it to a 21-point lead, 58-37, just six minutes into the second half.

The Flying Dutch (27-2) balanced its perimeter shooting with its post-up game in gaining Friday's victory. Hope ended with 10 three-point baskets and shot 54% overall while taking only 46 shots in the game. Senior All-American Carrie Snikkers led the Dutch with 21 points while Liz Ellis followed with 16 points and Erika Bruinsma added 12.

MIAA Coaches Honor Hope Players
Three members of Hope's MIAA championship team have received all-conference honors from the league's coaches. Seniors Carrie Snikkers (Jenison/Hudsonville Unity Christian HS) and Erika Bruinsma (Grand Rapids/GR Christian HS) are first team honorees. Snikkers is being honored for a third consecutive year. Sophomore Liz Ellis(Grand Rapids/East GR HS) is a second team honoree and was named the league's defensive player of the year.

With a field of teams that could give it a feel of a final four more than the opening nights of a national tournament, Hope College has been selected to host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Division III women's basketball championships this coming weekend. The Flying Dutch received an at-large berth to the 64-team field and have been rewarded as a host site. Rival Calvin Nips Flying Dutch in Tournament Title Game

In a thrilling game that literally went down to the final shot at the buzzer, the Calvin Knights stole away the MIAA conference championship Saturday afternoon against rival Hope on a three-point shot as time expired, winning by a score of 67-65. Leading significantly by 20 points early on in the second half, the Knights lost a lot of that built up momentum as time wound down and the Dutch slowly but surely climbed back into the game. After a go-ahead score by Hope with nine seconds to play, junior Jill Thomas got open and hit the winning shot as the clock ran out.

In the first half both teams played great defense and held each other to a very limited amount of offensive opportunities. With Hope leading 15-13 at seven minutes left in the first half, Calvin then swung the pendulum towards the Knights in a big way by going on a 14-0 run leading up to the break. In the second half Calvin got right back to business with a big 13-2 run to open the half, including three makes from beyond the arc. Leading 45-25 with over 17 minutes to play, the Dutch then began their methodical comeback, starting with a big 14-2 run that brought them within 10 points.

Thereafter the Dutch used an additional 15-5 run to knot things up at 54-54. With just over five minutes left, each possession became more and more critical to both teams as they tried to gain momentum back again. Hope took the lead 60-59 with three-and-a-half minutes to go on a jumper by sophomore Liz Ellis, and the Dutch led again 63-61 when Calvin hit a big three to retake the lead with barely over a minute to go.

A turnover on Hope's subsequent possession gave the Knights the ball with 11 seconds to play, but Calvin couldn't find anyone on the inbound pass from the baseline and the Dutch regained possession. A smooth pass and lay-in by senior Erika Bruinsma gave Hope the lead again 65-64 with only nine seconds to go. Thomas then took things into her own hands in the next seconds and the Knights took down the reigning MIAA Tournament champions.

The win pushes Calvin to 24-4 on the year and drops Hope to 26-2, marking the second time this year the Knights have defeated Hope at home in the Van Noord Arena, giving Calvin the edge on the season series over the third-ranked team in the nation.

The Flying Dutch booked their place in the MIAA Tournament Final on Thursday night, defeating the Trine Thunder 66-47. The Flying Dutch will now travel to the Van Noord Arena to face Calvin (23-4) on Saturday for a chance to earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Coach Brian Morehouse and his team will be looking to win their sixth consecutive MIAA Title and the opportunity to make another run at the NCAA Division III Championship.

Saturday's title game will be a showdown of nationally ranked rival. Hope's only loss in a 26-1 season was a one-point setback at Calvin in January.

Hope began the game, as they have the entire season, with impressive defense that has become their trademark. They held Trine scoreless until 12:22 in the first half, and only allowed 15 points in the entire period. At one point Hope extended their lead to 34 points, but Trine's narrowed the margin during the final minutes of the game. The Flying Dutch forced 22 turnovers and grabbed 20 offensive rebounds, which in turn helped them generate a strong offensive effort of 24 points off turnovers and 18 second-chance points.

The Flying Dutch were led by senior Carrie Snikkers (10 points, 7 rebounds) and junior Maddie Burnett (10 points). Sophomore Courtney Kust also scored seven, while sophomore Meredith Kussmaul and freshmen Brittany Berry each added six.

The Flying Dutch secured their place in the semis of the MIAA tournament Tuesday night with a record-breaking 103-42 win over Adrian. Coach Brian Morehouse's Dutch will be playing in Thursday's semis for the 17th consecutive year hosting Trine. The sixth-seeded Thunder upset Saint Mary's 68-58 for the first time in school history.

The Flying Dutch scored a DeVos Fieldhouse 55 points in the first half and became the first team in the history of the 18-year-old conference tournament to surpass 100 points. The Dutch shot 52% from the field, grabbed 20 steals and forced Adrian to turn over the ball 27 times.

Every Hope player scored led by senior Carrie Snikkers with 15 points. She was assisted by career-high performances from sophomore Courtney Kust (14 points) and senior Rachael Kutney (13 points), while senior Erika Bruinsma added 10.

Flying Dutch Are MIAA Co-Champions (2/19/11)

The amazing careers of five Hope seniors were celebrated with a 66-48 victory over Albion on Saturday. Coach Brian Morehouse's Dutch are MIAA co-champions with rival Calvin. Both teams finished 15-1 in the conference after splitting their head-to-head games. In a coin toss after the games, Calvin gained the top-seed for next week's conference tournament. Hope's senior class -- Erika Bruinsma, Miranda DeKuiper, Lauren Geers, Rachael Kutney and Carrie Snikkers -- posted an amazing 62-2 record against MIAA opponents during their careers and in home games at DeVos Fieldhouse were 63-0. Hope is 24-1 overall.

Hope continued their dominant run of play, going up 38-24 before halftime. In the second half Albion worked to reduce Hope's lead, but never came closer than trailing by eight points. The Flying Dutch defense once again frustrated their opponents, as the Britons shot 29.2% from the field and 16.7% from three point range. Leading the Flying Dutch tonight were senior Carrie Snikkers and sophomore Liz Ellis, who both recorded 16 points. This point total ties Ellis' career high, a mark she set earlier this season against Calvin.

Flying Dutch Keep Pace as League Race Nears End (2/12/11)

The Flying Dutch ran away with their 23rd victory of the season Wednesday routing host Olivet 82-43. With one game remaining in the regular season, coach Brian Morehouse's Dutch remain tied for first place in the MIAA standings with rival Calvin. Both teams are 14-1 against conference opponents. The nationally ranked Flying Dutch are 23-1 overall.

The teams were tied 13-13 eight minutes into the game. The Flying Dutch took over the game at that point outscoring the Comets 21-2 over the next six points. Hope led 49-22 at halftime and by as many as 42 points in the second half.

Carrie Snikkers led the Dutch with 18 points in 16 minutes. She also grabbed seven reboundsa. Erika Bruinsma added 10 points. The Flying Dutch shot 56%, including 7-for-14 on three pointers.

Flying Dutch Move Into Tie for MIAA Lead (2/12/11)

With a week remaining in the regular season and two games to be played, coqach Brian Morehouse's Dutch share the league lead with rival Calvin at 13-1. Hope began the game strong and were rewarded at halftime with a 12-point lead. They continued to dominate as they opened the second half with seven unanswered points. A steal and layup by junior Maddie Burnett sealed the victory for the Flying Dutch midway through the second half, as Trine never came within 20 points of Hope after that point. Defensively, the Hope women demonstrated their prowess by allowing Trine to only shoot 26.5% from the field.

Leading the Dutch was sophomore Liz Ellis with 12 points, followed by Maddie Burnett with 11. Sophomore Courtney Kust also added eight points off the bench.

Flying Dutch Coast Past Adrian (2/9/11)

The Flying Dutch got off to a fast start and never looked back in routing host Adrian 74-45 Wednesday. Coach Brian Morehouse's Flying Dutch, ranked second in this week's ESPN/USA Today national poll, improved to 21-1 overall and 12-1 in the MIAA.

Hope jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first three minutes. Hope's lead was 43-20 at halftime. Post players Carrie Snikkers and Rachael Kutney shared scoring honors with 11 points while Ashley Bauman came off the bench to grab nine rebounds in just 10 minutes.

Hope shot 52% (26/50) in the game and finished with 16 steals.

Flying Dutch Beat Rival Calvin Before Record Crowd (2/5/11)

The Flying Dutch avenged their only loss of the season routing rival Calvin 70-48 Saturday before a record DeVos Fieldhouse crowd. An estimated 3,433 fans created a standing-room-only environment for the highly anticipated showdown between the nationally ranked teams. Calvin had edged the Flying Dutch by a point, 56-55, a month ago.

The victory puts Hope within half-a-game of frontrunner Calvin. The Knights are 12-1 in league play while Hope is 11-1 with two weeks remaining in the regular season. The victory was Hope's 72nd in-a-row on their home floor and by moving to 20-1 overall the Flying Dutch have now 20-or-more games in a season under coach Brian Morehouse for the 13th consecutive year.

Though Calvin's defense initially frustrated the Flying Dutch, they were able to establish a 14-point lead at halftime, 37-23. Calvin cut the Hope lead to seven points early in the second half, but Hope built it back to double figures and by as many as 26 points.

After being held scoreless in the first game with Calvin, senior Erika Bruinsma bounced back with 14 points on Saturday with a perfect 4-for-4 shooting, 6-for-6 on free throws, three assists and three steals.The Flying Dutch were led in scoring by sophomore Liz Ellis with 16 points. Also in double figures was Carrie Snikkers with 11 points. Calvin committed 34 turnovers as the Flying Dutch were credited with 23 steals.

Victory Sets Stage for Showdown With Rival Calvin (2/3/11)

The regular season will be on the line Saturday when the Flying Dutch host rival Calvin after both teams posted victories on Thursday. Hope defeated host Saint Mary's 79-59 while the league leading Calvin Knights topped Adrian 57-32.

Calvin, a 56-55 winner over Hope earlier this season, is 12-0 in the MIAA while Hope is 10-1. Coach Brian Morehouse's Flying Dutch are 19-1 overall.

Except for Saint Mary's game-opening basket, the Flying Dutch never trailed, but Hope didn't take control of the game until the second half. Hope led by eight points at halftime, 41-33, but the Belles came back within four points to open the second half, 41-37. The Flying Dutch scored the next seven points and never looked back.

Senior Carrie Snikkers led the Dutch with a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds. Liz Ellis added 12 points.

Flying Dutch Have Unusual Stat Sheet in Lopside Win (1/26/11)

Every player contributed toward Hope's lopsided 102-37 victory over host Kalamazoo on Wednesday night. Coach Brian Morehouse nationally ranked Dutch improved to 9-1 in the MIAA and 18-1 overall.

In the end all 15 Hope players scored a point and grabbed a rebound and all but one player was credited with an assist. Meredith Kussmaul scored a team-high 14 points off the bench while senior post players Carrie Snikkers and Rachael Kutney each had 11. Ashley Bauman led Hope on the boards with eight rebounds while Lauren Geers had a team-leading six assists.

Hope led 54-19 at halftime behind 63% shooting. The Flying Dutch ended with a season-best 61% shooting and made 17-of-18 free throws.

Flying Dutch Back on Winning Track With Road Victory (1/20/11)b>

The Flying Dutch got back on the winning side of the ledger by coasting to a 69-46 victory at Albion on Thursday. Midway through the conference season, coach Brian Morehouse's Flying Dutch are in second place in the league standings at 7-1 and are 16-1 overall.

Coming off an upset loss to rival Calvin on Tuesday and playing their second game on the road in 48 hours, the Flying Dutch were strong at the start gaining a 10-2 lead five minutes into the game. The Britons, who entered the game tied for second place with Hope, fought back to take a 16-15 lead with eight minutes left in the half. Hope responded with an 11-point run to gain a 26-16 advantage. Hope's lead at halftime was 30-20. Hope scored the first seven points of the second half and was ahead by 20 points when Albion responded with a run that trimmed the lead to 14 points, 47-33. Another Hope run, this one 13 points, put Hope in command for good, 60-33.

Senior Erika Bruinsma scored a career-high 19 points on 7-for-9 shooting. She also grabbed eight rebounds. Carrie Snikkers followed with 14 points while Liz Ellis added 11. The Flying Dutch found their outside shot behind nine three-pointers and the defense held Albion to just 30% shooting on the game.

Flying Dutch Suffer Season's First Loss (1/18/11)

Just hours after being elevated to the top-ranked team in Division III women's basketball, the Flying Dutch suffered their first loss of the season Tuesday bowing to rival Calvin 56-55. The host Knights assume sole possession of first place in the MIAA race with a 7-0 record while coach Brian Morehouse's Dutch slip to 6-1. The loss snaps Hope's 29-game MIAA winning streak and puts the Flying Dutch at 15-1 heading into another key league road test at Albion on Thursday.

Hope dominated play early-on leading 18-9 with 7:51 left in the first half. The Knights outscored the Dutch 20-2 the rest of the half to gain a 29-20 advantage at the intermission. Hope fought back to tie the score 31-31 four minutes into the second half. With 2:20 remaining Calvin held a 56-51 lead. Hope would score the game's last points and had a chance to score the game-winner with one second remaining, but Carrie Snikkers jumper fell off the rim. Snikkers ended with a double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds.

The Flying Dutch were credited with 17 steals led by Erika Bruinsma's five. Laren Geers added 10 points and grabbed six rebounds.

Stage is Set for Showdown of MIAA Unbeatens (1/15/11)

The Flying Dutch rolled to their 70th consecutive home floor victory defeating Olivet 79-44 while Calvin post an equally impressive 65-50 victory over Alma. Both teams are now 6-0 in MIAA games heading into their game at Calvin next Tuesday night. Coach Brian Morehouse Dutch are 15-0 overall.

With some of the reserves getting more playing time than the starters, the Flying Dutch had four players finish in double figures. Senior Carrie Snikkers just missed a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds. Scoring 10 points apiece were Erika Bruinsma, Courtney Kust and Meredith Kussmaul.

No Hope player played in more than half the game. Senior Carrie Snikkers led the Dutch scoring 14 points on 6-for-7 shooting, including 2-for-2 from three-point range. Hope held a 42-19 rebound advantage led by Snikkers with seven.

Flying Dutch Stay Unbeaten; Home Streak at 69 (1/8/11)

The Flying Dutch extended their home floor winning streak to 69 in-a-row by defeating Adrian 73-47 on Saturday. The visiting Bulldogs came into DeVos Fieldhouse with a three-game winning streak, but were no match for the nationally ranked Flying Dutch who forced Adrian into 37 turnovers highlighted by 16 steals.

The Flying Dutch remain half-a-game behind rival Calvin in the MIAA race. The Knights are 5-0 while Hope is 4-0. The Flying Dutch are 13-0.

Tied 4-4 three minutes into the game, the Flying Dutch went on a nine-point run and never looked. Adrian went a space of nearly nine minutes without a basket. Hope led 42-19 at halftime.

Sophomore Meredith Kussmaul was the only Hope player to finish in double figures scoring 13 points on 6-for-7 shooting. Hope's scoring was spread across 13 players and the same number was credited with at least one rebound.

Flying Dutch Stay Unbeaten Before Big Crowd (1/5/11)

The Flying Dutch were tested in the first half, but were able to pull away after intermission to remain undefeated on the season with an 83-64 victory over visiting Saint Mary's before more than 2,300 DeVos Fieldhouse fans Wednesday night. Coach Brian Morehouse's nationally ranked Dutch extended their home floor winning streak to 68 in-a-row to move to 12-0 on the season and 3-0 in the MIAA.

Hope led just 38-35 at halftime, but was able to outscore the Belles by 16 points in the second half before 58% shooting, including 6-for-8 on three-pointers.

Carrie Snikkers led the Dutch with 22 points over 24 minutes. She also had four assists, seven rebounds and two blocked shots. Erika Bruinsma added 12 points.

Flying Dutch Win Ohio Wesleyan Tournament (12/30/10)

The undefeated Flying Dutch won their third tournament of the season topping host Ohio Wesleyan 85-58 Thursday in the championship game of OWU's Hoops for Hope cancer awareness tourney. Coach Brian Morehouse's Dutch were coming off an emotional 47-45 victory over defending national Washington-St. Louis against a host team that had won by 23 points.

Trailing 19-18 eleven minutes into the game, the Flying Dutch went on a 12-point run over the next two minutes and never looked back. Hope led 45-30 at halftime on the strength of a dominating performance on the boards. Hope held a 28-10 rebound advantage at the break, 16 of them coming off the offensive board.

Erika Bruinsma and Liz Ellis each scored 13 points. Senior Carrie Snikkers was named the tournament's most valuable player and was joined on the all-tournament team by teammates Lauren Geers and Bruinsma.

The 11-0 Flying Dutch will take a New Years break before getting back to a schedule that will be entirely against MIAA opponents in January and February, beginning next Wednesday at home against Saint Mary's. The game will be part of a women's/men's doubleheader. The Flying Dutchmen will be hosting Calvin. The doubleheader is a pre-game sellout, according to Hope officials.

Flying Dutch Defeat Defending National Champs (12/29/10)

The undefeated Flying Dutch prevailed a showdown of nationally ranked teams Wednesday by edging defending NCAA Division III national champion Washington-St. Louis 49-47 at the Ohio Wesleyan Bishop Classic. The highly anticipated game featured a rematch of last year's national championship contest won by Wash-U. Coach Brian Morehouse's Dutch improved to 10-0 and will face host Ohio Wesleyan in Thursday's title game. The host Bishops won Wednesday's other game 83-62 over Bluffton.

The Flying Dutch led by seven points, 30-23, at halftime, but Washington came back to tie the score 35-all midway through the second half. The teams were tied three more times, the last at 45-all with 3:51 to play. Laureen Geers made two free throws at 2:56 and Liz Ellis scored on a layup at :50 to put the Dutch ahead by four points. Washington cut the lead to two points with 35 seconds remaining and had a chance to tie the score at :02, but the jumper was missed.

Senior Carrie Snikkers had a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds, including 11 off the defensive board. Hope's outstanding defense limited Washington to 32% shooting, including just 1-for-11 from three-point range.

Flying Dutch Enters Holidays Undefeated (12/18/10)

Re-gifting is considered a taboo unless you are a Flying Dutch basketball team whose gift to coach Brian Morehouse is an undefeated season heading into the holiday break for the fifth consecutive year. The Flying Dutch won their own Holiday Classic by topping Wittenberg, Ohio 69-48 in Saturday's championship game. Hope now enters an 11-day break with a 9-0 record.

The Flying Dutch extended their DeVos Fieldhouse home court winning streak to 67 in-a-row and are now 87-1 since moving to DeVos in 2005.

Senior All-American center Carrie Snikkers was voted the tournament's most valuable player and was joined on the all-tournament team by senior Miranda DeKuiper and sophomore Meredith Kussmaul.

The Flying Dutch never trailed in the game, owned a 42-20 halftime advantage and were ahead by as many as 28 points in the second half. Snikkers led the Flying with 11 points while Kussmaul added 10.

Next for the Flying Dutch will be defending national champion Washington-St. Louis in a holiday tournament at Ohio Wesleyan on December 29th. Hope's last loss was in the national championship game last March.

Flying Dutch Cruise to Eighth Victory (12/17/10)

Every Hope player scored as the Flying Dutch cruised to a 73-38 victory over Concordia, Ill. Friday on the opening night of the team's Holiday Classic. In Friday's other game, Wittenberg topped Kalamazoo 65-53.

The pre-determined Saturday games will feature Concordia against Kalamazoo at 1 p.m., followed by Hope versus Wittenberg at 3 p.m.

Hope's lead midway thru the first half was 18-16. The Flying Dutch outscored the Cougars 15-2 the rest of the half to gain a 33-18 advantage at intermission. Hope went on another run to open the second half, leading 40-20 four minutes into the half.

Senior Carrie Snikkers just missed her 22nd career double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds. Erika Bruinsma added 12 points.

Flying Dutch Roll to Seventh Victory (12/7/10)

An amazing start propelled the undefeated nationally ranked Flying Dutch to their seventh victory of the season on Wednesday night. The 91-48 victory over Kalamazoo moves coach Brian Morehouse's Dutch to 2-0 in MIAA conference play.

Hope jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game and held a 31-7 advantage behind 13-for-15 field goal shooting. The Flying Dutch shot 8-for-9 from three-point range in gaining a 41-14 led with five minutes remaining in the first half. Hope's 54 points in the first half tied a DeVos Fieldhouse record.

All 15 Hope players had scored midway through the second half and by game's end 14-of-the-15 had grabbed a rebound and 10 had dished off an assist. Two sophomores led the team in scoring, Liz Ellis with 14 and Meredith Kussmaul 12. Senior Carrie Snikkers was credited with 10 rebounds while Miranda DeKuiper and Allie Cerone each had five assists.

Hope shot a season-best 57% and held a 48-26 rebound advantage. The Flying Dutch had 27 assists on 36 baskets and ended with 11 three-pointers, one shy of the fieldhouse record.

The Flying Dutch extended their fieldhouse winning streak to 65 in-a-row and are now 85-1 since moving to DeVos in 2005.

Flying Dutch Open MIAA Play With Road Victory (12/4/10)

The Flying Dutch never trailed in opening conference play with a road victory over Alma 70-44 on Saturday. Alma was playing its first game in the newly renovated Art Smith Arena. The nationally ranked Dutch have a 6-0 season record. Coach Brian Morehouse's Dutch jumped out to an 11-2 lead and held a 37-22 halftime advantage. Erika Bruinsma led the Dutch with 12 points while Miranda DeKuiper finished 11 behind 5-for-6 shooting.

Flying Dutch Improve to 5-0 With Road Win (12/1/10)

The nationally ranked Flying Dutch will enter conference play this weekend undefeated after posting a 72-47 road victory over host North Park, Ill. on Wednesday night.

Coach Brian Morehouse's Flying Dutch, ranked second in this week's ESPN/USA Today Division III national coaches poll, improved to 5-0.

Three Hope players scored in double figures led by Carrie Snikkers with 14 points on 5-for-7 shooting. Meredith Kussmaul added 12 points off the bench while Erika Bruinsma also scored 12 on 6-for-6 shooting. Lauren Geers grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds, including eight off the defensive board.

The Flying Dutch took command of the game midway through the first half moving from a 13-9 lead at 12:21 to 22-10 at 8:56. Hope's bench outscored North Park 20-2 in the first half led by Kussmaul's eight points. Hope held a 26-12 rebound advantage in the first half. Hope scored the first eight points of the second half.

For the third time in four games Hope did not allow an opposing player in score in double figures. The Flying Dutch shot 48% in the game while limiting North Park (3-3) to 32%. Hope held a 45-25 rebound advantage.

Flying Dutch Gain Fourth Win in Opening Week (11/23/10)

Four victories in eight days have marked the opening of the season for the nationally ranked Flying Dutch who on Tuesday posted a 76-56 road win over Defiance. Coach Brian Morehouse's Dutch will now take a week off for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Hope never trailed in gaining a 35-21 halftime lead. Defiance scored the first basketball of the second half, but Hope scored the next 21 points to put the game away. The Flying Dutch shot 58% from the floor in the second half to finish at 50% for the game.

Senior Carrie Snikkers led all scorers with 27 points behind 8-for-9 field goal shooting and a perfect 9-for-9 on free throws. Liz Ellis added 13 points while Erika Bruinsma had 10. Miranda DeKuiper was credited with eight assists.

Flying Dutch Win Own Tipoff Classic (11/20/10)

In an early season showdown of unbeaten teams, the Flying Dutch prevailed over visiting Baldwin-Wallace 72-45 Saturday in the championship game of Hope's tipoff classic. Coach Brian Morehouse's nationally ranked Flying Dutch improved to 3-0.

The Flying Dutch successfully attacked B-W's zone defense in gaining a 10-3 advantage in the first three minutes of the game. With six minutes left in the first half Hope led by seven points, 25-18. Five minutes later the Hope lead was 17 points, 37-20.

The Flying Dutch shot a season-best 56% from the field, including seven three-point baskets. Senior Carrie Snikkers, chosen the tournament's most valuable player, just missed a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds. She also blocked five shots. Junior Maddie Burnett was named to the all-tournament team after scoring 12 points.
