Flying Dutch Compete at Manchester (10/4/08) Leading Hope 'A' was Megan Scholten at 78 strokes followed by Sasha Burau 85, Margaret Livingston 88, Cassie Sneller 90 and Andrea McCarty 91. Leading Hope 'B' was Lauren Zandstra at 78 strokes followed by Emily Atsma 86, Katie Blodgett 90, Jori Niemann 93 and Lindsey Springstrohm 93.
Flying Dutch Move Into 2nd in MIAA Race (9/30/08) Hope is now one stroke ahead of Saint Mary's in the race for second place. Olivet has a four-tournament total of 1,296 strokes followed by Hope 1,348, Saint Mary's 1,349, Albion 1,444, Trine 1,456, Kalamazoo 1,473, Alma 1,507, Adrian 1,598 and Calvin 1,638. Tuesday's medalist was Rosie O'Connor of Saint Mary's at 81. Cassie Sneller led Hope at 85 strokes. Scores of other Hope golfers were Megan Scholten 86, Sasha Burau 88, Andrea McCarty 88 and Emily Atsma 97.
Flying Dutch Slip a Spot in MIAA Standings (9/24/08) Lindsay Pipkin of Olivet and Rosie O'Connor of Saint Mary's shared medalist honor over the Thornapple golf course at 78 while only a stroke behind was Hope freshman Megan Scholten at 79. The scores of other Hope golfers were Cassie Sneller 82, Andrea McCarty 85, Sasha Burau 87 and Emily Atsma 89. Scores of Hope golers entered as individuals were Lauren Zandstra 88 and Katie Blodgett 91. The standings midway through the season has Olivet leading at 959 strokes followed by Saint Mary's 1,000, Hope 1,001, Albion 1,082, Trine 1,083, Kalamazoo 1,101, Alma 1,136, Adrian 1,200 and Calvin 1,227.
Flying Dutch Keep Hold on Second in MIAA (9/20/08) In a tuneup before playing a conference jamboree on the same course on Saturday, the Flying Dutch tied for fifth place at the eight-team Trine Invitational on Friday. Coach Eva Dean Folkert's Dutch will be back on the same Zollner golf course in Angola, Ind. on Saturday. Bethel, Ind. won the invitational at 314 strokes while Hope's fourth place total was 339 strokes. Leading Hope was freshman Megan Scholten at 82 followed by freshman Margaret Livingston 83, junior captain Cassie Sneller 85, freshman Sasha Burau 89 and freshman Lindsey Springstroh 93. Hope also had a "B" entry which finished eighth. Scores of those players were freshman Emily Atsma 84, freshman Andrea McCarty 88, freshman Lauren Zandstra 88 and sophomore Jori Niemann 91.
Rain Washes Away Tournament (9/13/08)
Flying Dutch Second in First League Tourney (9-4-08) Defending champion and nationally ranked Olivet won the jamboree with a MIAA course record score of 322 strokes. Hope followed at 336 strokes (just five strokes off the old record) followed by Saint Mary's 340, Albion 366, Kalamazoo 379, Alma 384, Trine 385, Adrian 402 and Calvin 428. The jamboree medalist was Olivet's Megan Rimmel with a course record score of 39-39--78. Hope teammates Cassie Sneller (38-42--80) and Megan Scholten (41-39--80) were part of a five-way tie for second place. Scores of other Hope golfers were Katie Blodgett 42-44--86, Sasha Burau 47-41--88, Lindsey Springstroh 42-46--88, Margaret Livingston 44-48--92, Emily Atsma 47-47--94 and Jori Niemann 57-51--108.
Flying Dutch Sweep Opening Matches (8/30/08)
With the return of five letterwinners, the Flying Dutch hope to continue their climb in the standings of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA). A year ago the Flying Dutch finished fourth in the seasonal standings after placing sixth in 2006. Coach Eva Dean Folkert begins her fourth season at the helm of the Flying Dutch golf program. She also serves on the national advisory committee for the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships. The roster includes eight freshmen, two sophomores, one junior and one senior. Captain of the team is junior Cassie Sneller of Holland, Mich. (Hamilton HS). As a sophomore she was the medalist in three tournaments. Her old sister, Holly, was captain of the team in 2006. The returning letterwinners senior Sarah Lokers of Hamilton, Mich. (Hamilton HS) and Brittany Posma of Zeeland, Mich. (Zeeland HS), sophomore Katie Blodgett of Traverse City, Mich. (St. Francis HS), and sophomore Jori Niemann of Elmhurst, Ill. (York Community HS). The Flying Dutch play a fall and spring schedule. The fall schedule, which determines the seasonal MIAA champion, will include four 18-hole jamborees and a 36-hole championship round. The spring schedule, consisting of three 18-hole rounds, determines the MIAA qualifier to the NCAA Division III championships. Hope will have two home meets, a season-opening non-league double dual on Saturday, Aug. 30, and the annual Hope Invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 7, both at the Macatawa Legends Country Club. The 2007-08 Flying Dutch were named to the MIAA Team GPA Honor Roll for a seventh consecutive year. Sarah Lokers was named to the 07-08 MIAA Academic Honor Roll.
