All-MIAA Women's Team
Four Hope players have been named to the all-conference second team of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) -- senior forward Danielle Petzak of Zeeland (Zeeland West HS), sophomore forward Cara Johnson of Chelsea (Chelsea HS), freshman forward Erin Jipping of Holland (West Ottawa HS), and junior defender Kylie Clark of Noblesville, Ill. (Noblesville HS).

Flying Dutch Bow in MIAA Tournament Semis (11/3/11)
Stats
Regular season champion Adrian topped the Flying Dutch 3-1 in Thursday's MIAA tournament semi-final game. Coach Leigh Sears' Dutch end the season with a 12-8 record. Hope's goal was scored in the 81st minute by Nora Kirk, assisted by Maria DeShaw. Goalkeeper Megan Altieri was credited with four saves.

Flying Dutch Advance to Tourney Despite Defeat (11/1/11)

The Flying Dutch are heading to the conference tournament despite a regular season ending loss on Tuesday. While Hope was being blanked by Saint Mary's 3-0, rival Calvin was losing to Kalamazoo 2-0. The twin losses put Hope and Calvin in a tie for fourth place in the final regular season MIAA standings.
Hope gained the tournament bid based on the head-to-head tie breaker rule. During the season both Hope and Calvin lost twice to league champion Adrian and runnerup Alma twice, but Hope defeated third place Kalamazoo twice while Calvin split with the Hornets, giving the Flying Dutch the advantage.

Hope (12-7) will travel to Adrian (15-4) for a tournament semi-final match on Thursday. The other semi-final match will put Kalamazoo (13-6-1) at Alma (16-3-1). Thursday's winners will meet Satuarday at the highest remaining seed. The tournament winner gains the MIAA's automatic berth in the NCAA Division III championships.

On Tuesday the Flying Dutch suffered their fourth consecutive loss and only their second this season by shutout. The host Belles led 1-0 at intermission. Hope ended with a 14-11 advantage in shots with seven on-goal.

Flying Dutch Bow to Rival Calvin (10/29/11)

The race for a spot in next week's conference tournament will go down to the final game of the regular season after the Flying Dutch were edged by rival Calvin 3-2 on Saturday. The top four teams in the final league standings will compete for the right to advance to the NCAA championships. Saturday's outcome puts Hope and Calvin in a tie for fourth place at 10-5 (30 points). Hope travels to sixth place Saint Mary's next Tuesday while Calvin hosts third place Kalamazoo. The Flying Dutch slipped to 12-6 with their third straight single-goal defeat.

All of the scoring came in the first half. The Flying Dutch scored first on Lindsay Bieri's fourth goal of the season. However, Calvin responded with three unanswered goals. The Flying Dutch narrowed the margin to a goal on Lindsay Jipping's third goal of the season. There was no scoring over the next 51 minutes. Hope ended with a 13-11 advantage in shots.

Flying Dutch Suffer Critical Loss to Defending Champions (10/26/11)

A pair of successful penalty kicks provided defending MIAA champion Alma a critical 2-1 victory over the visiting Flying Dutch on Wednesday. The setback jeopardizes Hope's bid to advance to the league's NCAA qualifying tournament with rival Calvin standing in the way. The top four teams will advance to the tournament. With a 10-4 league record, the Flying Dutch are in fourth place with 30 points. Rival Calvin is in fifth place with 27 points (9-5). The rivals meet Saturday at Van Andel Stadium. Hope earlier this season edged Calvin 3-2.

Hope and Alma battled through a scoreless first half. The Flying Dutch gained a 1-0 lead in the 59th minute on freshman Nora Kirk's sixth goal of the season, assisted by Cara Johnson. Alma then struck with a pair of penalty kicks, first in the 68th minute and then the game-winner in the 81st minute. They were the first penalty kicks of the season against the Flying Dutch who are 12-5 overall. Alma ended with a 23-11 advantage in shots. Hope goalkeeper Megan Altieri turned away 10 shots.

Flying Dutch Bow to MIAA Frontrunner Adrian (10/22/11)

MIAA leading Adrian snapped Hope's seven-game winning streak by edging the visiting Flying Dutch 3-2 on Saturday. Coach Leigh Sears' Flying Dutch drop into a tie for third place in the MIAA standings with a 10-3-0 league mark. Hope is 12-4 overall.

The teams traded goals early in the first half. Adrian gained a 2-1 halftime advantage and expanded the margin to 3-1 in the 53rd minute. Hope came within a goal in the 83rd minute. Scoring for the Dutch were Nora Kirk (#5) and Cara Johnson (#9).

Shutout Victory Extends Hope Winning Streak to Seven
Stats
The Flying Dutch posted their seventh consecutive league victory by blanking Albion 3-0 on Thursday. Coach Leigh Sears' Dutch remain in third place in the MIAA race, but are only three points behind frontrunner Adrian and a point out of second place. The Flying Dutch travel to Adrian on Saturday.

The victory puts Hope at 12-3 on the season and 10-2-0 in conference games. The Flying Dutch are undefeated (6-0) in games on the road.

Albion, winless in 16 games, put up a fight early-on battling the Dutch through a scoreless first half. It took only 38 seconds into the second half for Hope to get on the scoreboard as Cara Johnson scored her eighth goal of the season off an assist from Erin Jipping. Adding unassisted insurance goals were Tricia Bajema (56th minute) and Alyson Epolito (78th minute).

Hope had a 27-2 advantage in shots and held Albion without a shot on-goal. Goalkeeper Megan Altieri was credited with her fifth shutout of the season.

Flying Dutch Stay in Thick of MIAA Title Chase (10/18/11)

The Flying Dutch extended their winning streak to six in-a-row behind a 4-0 victory over visiting Trine on Tuesday night. Coach Leigh Sears' Dutch gained their fourth shutout victory while improving to 11-3 overall. The Flying are third in the MIAA race with a 9-2 conference record behind Adrian (10-2) and Alma (9-2-1). Hope faces the league frontrunners in their next two games travelling to Adrian on Saturday and then to Alma next Wednesday.

Hope scored twice in each half. The Flying Dutch went ahead quickly with two goals in the opening nine minutes, first by freshman Erin Jipping followed by senior Danielle Petzak. In the second half Petzak scored her ninth goal of the season while sophomore Acacia Nevenzel got her first collegiate goal.

Hope's defense limited Adrian to just one shot-on-goal and that didn't come until the final 11 minutes. Hope, meanwhile, held a 24-4 advantage in shots, including 12 on-goal. Junior keeper Megan Altieri recorded the shutout.

Fifth Straight Victory Moves Flying Dutch Atop MIAA (10/12/11)

In a game that transitioned from a defensive struggle to an offensive explosion, the Flying Dutch eruped for six second-half goals in a gaining a 6-1 victory over visiting Olivet on Wednesday night. The team's fifth straight win has moved coach Leigh Sears' Dutch into a tie for first place in the MIAA race. Hope and Adrian each stand 8-2 in conference games and are just ahead of defending MIAA champion Alma (7-2-1).

Scoreless through the first half, Hope gained a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick in the 56th minute. Olivet followed with a goal in the 67th minute. Hope made repeated attacks and finally found the net, scoring five goals over a period of just 14 minutes. Hope finished with a 27-6 advantage in shots.

For the second straight game Hope had a player score a hat trick. Sophomore Cara Johnson (Chelsea, Mich.) accomplished the fete to raise her season total to seven goals. Senior Danielle Petzak (Zeeland, Mich.) also scored her seventh goal of the season. Rounding out the scoring with their second goal of the season were sophomore Courtney Laux (Novi, Mich.) and junior Kylie Clark (Noblesville, Ind.).

Flying Dutch Gain Second Place in MIAA Standings (10/8/11)

The Flying Dutch posted their fourth conference victory in a week by topping Kalamazoo 4-2 before more than 400 Van Andel Stadium fans on Saturday. Coach Leigh Sears' Dutch improved to 7-2 in conference play behind only Adrian (8-1). The Dutch are 9-3 overall. Freshman Erin Jipping (Holland) became first Flying Dutch player to score a hat trick (three goals) at Van Andel Stadium. Senior Danielle Petzak (Zeeland) scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season.

Flying Dutch Extend Winning Streak With Shutout (10/6/11)

Defeating visiting Saint Mary's 2-0, the Flying Dutch on Thursday night extended their winning streak to three in-a-row with their third shutout of the season. Midway through the conference schedule coach Leigh Sears' Dutch are in third place in the MIAA standings with a 6-2 mark behind Adrian (7-1) and Alma (6-1-1). The Dutch are 8-3 overall.

After being scoreless at halftime, the Flying Dutch got on the scoreboard in the 61st minute on Cara Johnson's fourth goal of the season, assisted by Nora Kirk. The second goal came in the 79th minute unassisted by Courtney Laux. Hope held a 22-5 advantage in shots. Goalkeeper Megan Altieri was credited with the shutout behind three saves.

Flying Dutch Post Key MIAA Win Over Rival Calvin (10/4/11)

The Flying Dutch moved into a tie for third place in the MIAA race by edging rival Calvin 3-2 Tuesday. It was Hope's first win over their rival since 2005 snapping a seven-game losing streak. Coach Leigh Sear's Dutch share third place in the MIAA standings with Kalamazoo at 5-2 and are 7-3 overall.

The teams exchanged goals in the first half, Hope's coming from Nora Kirk. Hope gained a 3-1 advantage with second half goals by Danielle Petzak and another by Kirk. Calvin came within a goal in the final five minutes. The host Knights held a 17-10 advantage in shots. Hope keeper Megan Altieri had seven saves.

Flying Dutch Post Shutout Victory (10/1/11)

The Flying Dutch tied the Van Andel Soccer Stadium record for goals in a game en route to blanking Albion 5-0 on Saturday. All of the goals came in the first half led by a pair by Danielle Petzak and single scores by Erin Jipping, Cara Johnson and Lindsey Bieri. Hope outshot Albion 38-7. A trio of Hope goalkeepers -- Megan Altieri, Kat Dickson and Lauren Kooy -- combined for three saves. Hope improves to 4-2 in the MIAA and to 6-3 overall.

Flying Dutch Edged by Adrian on Home Field (9/29/11)

The Flying Dutch suffered their second conference loss of the season Wednesday bowing to visiting Adrian 2-1. Coach Leigh Sears' Dutch slip to 3-2 in the MIAA and are 5-3 overall. The teams were tied 1-1 at halftime. Hope's goal came in the 30th minute by Lindsay Jipping assisted by Erin Jipping. Adrian held a 15-12 advantage in shots. Hope goalkeeper Megan Altieri was credited with seven saves.

Defending MIAA champion Alma tagged the Flying Dutch with their first conference loss of the season 3-1 on Saturday. Coach Leigh Sears' Dutch are 3-1 in the MIAA and 5-2 overall. Scoreless in the first half, the team traded goals before the visiting Scots scored twice within two minutes. Hope's goal was scored by Nora Kirk assisted by Rachel Rebhan. Hope held a 19-16 advantage in shots. Goalkeeper Megan Alteiri had five saves.

Flying Dutch Stay Unbeaten in MIAA (9/20/11)

Talk about a blazing start! Propelled by what may be the fast goal scored in Hope soccer history, the Flying Dutch remained unbeaten in league play (3-0) behind a 4-1 victory over host Olivet on Tuesday.

The Flying Dutch were on the scoreboard just 20 seconds into the game when Danielle Petzak (pictured) scored from five yards out off a pass from Alyson Epolito. The Flying Dutch led 2-0 at halftime and added two goals in the second half to extend their winning streak to four in-a-row.

Other goals were scored by Cara Johnson, Lindsey Bieri and Lindsay Jipping. Also credited with assists were Tricia Bajema, Cara Johnson and Rachel Doud. Olivet actually outshot Hope 17-16. Goalkeeper Megan Altieri was credited with five saves.

Flying Dutch Remain Unbeaten in Conference Play (9/17/11)

It was a game of firsts Wednesday for the Flying Dutch. Coach Leigh Sears' Dutch scored their first victory of the conference season blanking host Kalamazoo 1-0. The winning score came on freshman Lindsey Bieri's first collegiate goal. It was set up by freshman Erin Jipping who was credited with her first collegiate assist. And junior goalkeeper Megan Altieri gained his first collegiate shutout. With back-to-back victories, the Flying Dutch have a 3-1 overall record.

After a scoreless first half, the Flying Dutch got on the scoreboard in the 69th minute on Bieri's only shot of the game. Kalamazoo held a 15-10 advantage in shots, but Altieri turned away seven of them.

Flying Dutch Rally to Victory (9/9/11)

The Flying Dutch rallied from a two-goal deficit to gain a 3-2 victory over visiting Augustana, Ill. on Friday. Coach Leigh Sears' Dutch will take a 2-1 record into the start of conference play next week.

Augustana led 2-0 after the first period. The Flying Dutch came roaring back with a pair of goal with four minutes of one another early in the second half. Kylie Clark scored unassisted in the 51st minutes and Alyson Epolito followed with a goal in the 55th minute assisted by Tricia Bajema. The game-winner came with nine minutes left in regulation, again by Epolito unassisted on a scramble in front of the net. Augustana held a 14-10 advantage in shots. Hope goalkeeper Megan Altieri was credited with five saves.

The host Cardinals scored in the 38th minute of the game, but the Flying Dutch responded a minute later on sophomore Rachel Rebhan's unassisted goal. The teams were tied at halftime. Five minutes into the second half the Dutch got the eventual game-winner on a goal by Danielle Petzak, assisted by Alyson Epolito. Hope out-shot North Central 19-8.
