Adding a Resource to Moodle

***This is a short tutorial on how to add common resources to Moodle***

  1. First we need to enter our virtual classroom and select the gray toggle switch labeled “Turn Editing On”.  It is located in the upper right hand side of the webpage.

  2. Now with editing on, go the week/topic that you wish to add an assignment to, and select the “Add a resource…” pull down menu.  Now select one of the options below.  The two most common are “Compose a text page” and “Link to a file or web site”.

  3. *** If you are composing a text page continue sequentially below, if you are linking to a file or website skip to stp 4. ***

  4. After selecting to compose a text page you will be brought to a new page where you will be given options to create your text page.

    1. The first option allows you give your resource a name, make it descriptive so people will know what it is about.

    2. The second option allows you to place a summary of the resource…this textbox unlike other textboxes in the past is where you put your main content.

    3. The next option is also a textbox.  There is where you place all your information you want displayed in this resource.  There is a pull down menu right below the box that allows you to chose which way you want the text formatted.

    4. Save and your Done!

  5. After selecting to link to a file or website you will be brought to a new page where you are given the tools to do so.

    1. Again like before we are given two options that allow us to name our resource and to add a summary.  You must add a name, the summary is optional.

    2. The main point in this page is the location option.  Here you can type in the URL of the website you wish to link to by typing it in to the small textbox.  If you are linking to a file click on the gray button entitles” Chose or upload a file”.  You will now be brought to a new window.

    3. Here you can manage all your uploaded files or upload more files.  The left most of the gray buttons allows you to make new folders to help manage your uploaded documents.  The middle two are just quick ways to select and deselect all files.  Selecting files using these buttons or the check boxes next to the file name allows you to use the options of the drop down menu on the left side.  The right most of the gray buttons is how you upload a file.  Make sure before you click this to be in the folder you wish to save it in to.  Then click the button.

    4. Now use the “Browse” button to sort through all your files on your Hard Drive.  Select the file you wish to upload and click OK.  The file name will now be in the white box.  Press the “Upload this file” and you will be brought back previous page.  You will now see your file in the folder you uploaded it to.  Now you will see a bold face blue link called “Choose”.  Click this and the window will close out.  Your file should be in location textbox.

    5. Save and your done. Congratulations!
