Specialized Study

Through "Specialized Study as Vocation: Responding to the World's Needs," the CrossRoad Project seeks to encourage students to reflect on vocation in their own area of specialization. We have developed pre-professional and internship programs that draw attention to issues of vocational discernment. The academic advising program also places an emphasis on questions of calling and vocation.

The Hope College/World Vision internship program placed two students in South African in the spring of 2004 in conjunction with Hope's Washington Honors Semester. Two more students spent nearly two months in Guatemala nd Kenya in the summer of 2004 as part of a new initiative of the college's department of nursing. Specific details can be found in the Spring 2004 issue of our newsletter (in pdf format), SIGNAL.

Pre-Health Professions is directed by Professor Amanda Barton. This group is geared for those pursuing a career in nursing, medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, kinesiology, athletic training, physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant, psychology, or any other health related profession. Students join with other students sharing their same interests in health and medical related professions. Participants is this group will be able to provide input into planning exciting summer internships, new and innovative spring break trips, and opportunities to explore career options that relate specifically to medical and health profession interests. More specific information about past and present activities, check out our event speaker listing.
