Seminary Day 2007 at Hope - details / Tentative date in '08 is Oct. 23

Pre-Sem Society gathering schedule

Need money for theological education? Check out The Fund for Theological Education

Are you “Pre-Sem”?

Everyone knows about Pre-Med, Pre-Law, and other forms of pre-professional programs here at Hope College. Now we have a support network for students considering further study in theology or religion.

  • Have you ever thought about becoming a pastor, a music minister, a missionary, a priest, a youth minister, or a worship leader?
  • Are you discerning a possible call into a field such as Christian education, parish nursing, or church-based relief work?
  • Have your professors inspired you to consider graduate work in theology or religious studies so that you might one day teach theology, religion, or Biblical studies?

The “Pre-Sem” list is for anyone who is even vaguely considering a career in or connected to the church. We continue to expand our list of students who are considering further study beyond Hope College at a theological seminary, a university divinity school, or a graduate program in religion.

By signing up, you will receive an email newsletter that keeps you informed about:

  • Recruiters from seminaries and divinity schools who are visiting Hope or who have set up special weekends for prospective students to visit their campuses.
  • Scholarship opportunities and hints for securing the funds for graduate work in religion and theology.
  • Money that is being made available right here at Hope College to help support you in your process of discernment.
  • A database of information about seminaries, divinity schools, and graduate programs in religion, theology, and Biblical studies as you try to discern what school and program might be best for you.
  • Internship opportunities in your area of interest to help you explore your sense of vocation.

You’ll also be invited to join the Pre-Seminary Society, a group that will gather together periodically under the guidance of Trygve Johnson, the Dean of the Chapel, to:

  • Talk together about what it means to discern a call to ministry or service to the church.
  • Listen to speakers from seminaries, churches, and other organizations on a variety of topics of relevance to students interested in further theological or religious study and church leadership.
  • Read and discuss books and articles that might be helpful in forming your sense of call to ministry, service, and leadership.
  • Enjoy the gifts of food and conversation.
