This talk will discuss some of the problems associated with handwriting recognition with a particular focus on an important problem called the segmentation problem.  This will motivate the presentation of an algorithm known as "elastic matching" as a technique for performing a specific type of handwriting recognition called unistroke recognition.  This talk will be presented using DyKnow and participants will be asked to interact at various points during the presentation.  This talk will be accessible to anyone who is familiar with the concept of an array or an ArrayList in a language such as Java or C++.
