Dr. Steven SmithProfessor of Kinesiology
Steven Smith started at Hope College in the fall of 1990 as a professor of kinesiology and the head men's soccer coach. He has taught many courses in physical education teacher education. Additionally, he teaches a senior seminar on faith and vocational calling. One of his favorite roles is serving as a mission trip leader every spring break to Caribbean Christian Center for the Deaf in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
Areas of expertise
Steven’s current research is in preadolescent childhood obesity. He is connected to the foundation for fitness program and researches the motor performance ability of obese children.

Outside the college
Hope College soccer camps fill Steven’s time in the summer. He helps to host the largest soccer camps in the Midwest and spends four weeks of every summer showing students the beauty of Hope while teaching them soccer skills.
