Dean ThayerSystem Manager
Dean Thayer ’98 has worked with the Computing and Information Technology team since 2005. Dean has built most of the college’s Moodle servers, wrote the code that manages all the email accounts, designed most of the database servers and made dozens of pots of coffee. He pretty much does whatever needs doing.
- B.S., computer science, Hope College, 1998
Dean previously worked in warehouse automation and enterprise software administration for one of the largest foodservice distributors in North America.
Norah Thayer once claimed that Dean was "the best dad she ever had."
Why I Love Hope
Dean loves doing things to improve the lives of young people and the ability to worship God at his workplace. He enjoys the programs and facilities that Hope provides for health and wellness, and the fellowship that comes with them. Plus, Dean thinks the vacation allowance is fabulous!
Outside the College
When Dean is not playing with his children, he does a whole lot of building and fixing — he spends a large portion of his free time covered in sawdust and grime. Dean also really enjoys disc golf and being in the wilderness.
Reading, watching and listening to theologians, philosophers, sociologists, psychologists,
historians, pastors and non-fiction authors of all kinds is another favorite pastime.
Some of Dean’s favorites are Dr. Timothy J. Keller, C. S. Lewis, Dr. Susan Wise Bauer,
Ken Burns, Sir David Frederick Attenborough and Dr. David Meyers.
