For Faculty

The Carl Frost Center for Social Science Research is committed to supporting faculty-student research at Hope College. In addition to supplying funding and technical expertise to faculty-student projects, the center assists individual faculty in the following ways: 

• Assistance with in-class research projects
• Production of surveys for personal or class research
• Workspace for student research assistants
• Assistance with grant-seeking software (funding sources external to the college)
• Assistance with SPSS and other data-analysis need

*NEW* Frost/Scanlon Research Award

The Frost/Scanlon Research Award supports promising research that investigates the application and impact of Scanlon EPIC Leadership Principles, Servant Leadership, or innovation in organizational practice, within a wide range of organizational or social environments.  The goals of this program are to inspire new and creative thinking on these subjects, support the development of empirical research on these subjects, and provide students with practical experience with organizations in these subjects.

The award can take one of two formats:

• 12-week Program: (Up to $7,400) A student internship at a Scanlon Leadership Network company/organization followed by an intensive research project supervised by a Hope College faculty member.
• 8-week Program: (Up to $6,000) Collaborative research project between a Hope College faculty member and student (no internship involvement).

Grants Through The Frost Center

The Frost Center distributes funds for faculty-student research in the social sciences. Applications are accepted at any time and are evaluated on a rolling basis throughout the year.

Human Subjects Review Board

All research involving the use of human research subjects (participants) must be reviewed and approved by the Hope College Human Subjects Review Board (HSRB) before the research can be initiated.
