April 8, 2008 Faculty-Student Research Colloquium

At 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday April 8th, the Frost Research Center will be hosting a colloquium with presentations on two faculty-student research projects conducted by the Hope College Department of Kinesiology.

Professors Jeff Armstrong and Kirk Brumels, along with student researchers Allison Young, April Muske and Sarah Anderson will be talking about the Effects of Dance Dance Revolution Training on Selected Balance and Agility Tasks.

Professor Kirk Brumels and student researchers Amanda Friedline and Kristen Hutchins will present their findings on the Effects of Graduated Compression Stocking Pressures on Post Injury Ankle Edema.

The colloquium will be held in room 260 of the Anderson/Werkman Financial Building (aka 100 East 8th Street). As always, light refreshments will be provided.

Hope College Shut Down

The Frost Center for Social Science Research will close for the holidays begining 5:00 p.m. Friday, December 21th, and will re-open 8:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 2nd.

Christmas Party

The Frost Center's staff will be serving up lots of homemade goodies and holiday cheer at our annual Christmas party. All Hope Social Science faculty and staff are invited to drop by on Monday, December 10th from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Open House

The Carl Frost Center for Social Science Research will be holding an Open House on Wednesday, December 5th, from 3:00p.m.-6:00p.m. for community leaders and organizations to introduce our new director, Dr. Megan Mullins, and to showcase our new facilities.

Frost Colloquium

Dr. Steve VanderVeen of the Department of Economics, Management and Accounting and student researcher Nicole Schrier presented a fascinating overview of their research on The History of Tourism in the Holland-Zeeland Area on November 6. Their work looked at how changes in transportation from sailing ships, to railroads, to automobiles affected resort businesses along Lake Macatawa.

First Frost Center Colloquium of 2007-2008 School Year


Following the theme of immigration of this year's Critical Issues Symposium, on Thursday, October 4th, at 11:00 a.m., psychology professor Dr. Lorna Hernandez Jarvis, along with student researchers Precious Campbell and Jennifer Birkenholz, will discuss their research into acculturation of middle school youth. Their presentation, "Latino? Mexican-American? Mexican?: What Ethnic Labels Tell Us about Ethnic Identity and Acculturation" will be given in room 260 of the Anderson/Werkmen Building (100 East 8th Street). Refreshments will be provided.
