Opportunities for Students

Student Employment

The Frost Center employs one or more students throughout the year to assist in data collection and presentation. Students learn basic social science research methods through hands on participation in a variety of campus and community projects.

The Frost Center periodically conducts telephone surveys. During these projects, short term employment is available as a phone interviewer. Phone calls are generally placed Monday through Thursday between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Majors in Social Sciences not required. Direct enquiries to Laurie Van Ark.

Student Internships

Each spring, The Carl Frost Center for Social Science Research offers one or two 4-week internship experiences for May Term. Intern(s) are placed at a company associated with the Scanlon Leadership Network. The placement will be full-time on-site for the four weeks of May Term. Some preparatory work during the Spring semester may be required and a short paper describing the experience will be required at the end. The intern(s) will receive a stipend for the work performed during the internship. This internship may be taken for credit as course SSR-495-02.

Application Information : Complete an application form, also available from the Frost Research Center (220 Anderson-Werkman) and submit by the end of February.

Please contact Laurie Van Ark at the Frost Center if you have further questions.

Research Practicum Class

When there is interest, the center offers a Community Research Practicum course (SSR-495-01) where students participate in projects contracted by the Frost Center. Tasks range from survey development and implementation to data analysis, table construction and final report preparation.
