During this, our sesquicentennial year, Hope College is taking time out to celebrate the people and achievements that have shaped this special place for 150 years. We are also embarking on exciting initiatives to ensure that the next 150 years are even better. I am delighted that this Annual Report represents both past and present.

We are thankful for a longstanding tradition of stewardship. As has been the case for five decades, the college closed the 2015 fiscal year with a balanced budget while growing our endowment and reducing our debt. Your generosity — whether through a financial gift or a contribution of your time and talent — supports and enhances our ability to offer an exceptional student experience, inside the classroom and out.

In this spirit of stewardship, we are introducing a new type of Annual Report. Many of you have requested that we develop an easier-to-use format and reconsider the mailed distribution of the report, with an eye for better stewardship of resources. In response to your suggestions, we have shifted from a printed, bound book to an online publication. This electronic version is not only a better use of resources; it is also makes our robust Honor Roll of Donors more accessible to a broader audience across the world.

Included in this report is a formal wrap-up of the A Greater Hope campaign, the largest fundraising effort in Hope’s history! As you’ll see in the report, we exceeded our campaign goal by a significant margin, raising more than $200 million for new facilities, a stronger endowment, greater scholarship support of students, and other important needs.

God has indeed blessed Hope College in countless ways. On behalf of the Hope College students and employees, I thank you for your continuing partnership in this good work.
