Endowed Professorships & Positions

Academic Success Center Endowed Directorship
An endowed position within the Academic Support Center funded by an anonymous donor in 2013 in gratitude for the support their son received from Louise Shumaker and other academic support staff during his time as a Hope student. This position is intended to strengthen the college's program of providing needed support for students and add to the capacity of the department.

Arnold and Esther Sonneveldt Endowed Professorship in Education
An endowed professorship established to honor Arnold and Esther Sonneveldt of Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Sonneveldts are leaders in the bakery business in west Michigan and dedicated church leaders in the Reformed Church in America. They have four children, all of whom attended Hope College. This professorship will be held by a faculty member within the Education Department who is an outstanding teacher and demonstrates a commitment to the Christian faith and to preparing young people for the field of education.

Dorothy Wiley DeLong Professorship in Dance
An endowed professorship in honor of Dorothy Wiley De Long established by Mr. and Mrs. William P. De Long; their children, Dr. and Mrs. Jack De Long and Mr. and Mrs. Ted De Long; and friends and associates of Mrs. De Long. Dorothy Wiley De Long was actively involved in dance throughout her life, and was a leader in introducing dance to the community and to Hope College. This professorship is held by a faculty member in the Dance Department.

Dr. Leon A. Bosch '29 Endowed Professorship in Business and Management
An endowed professorship funded in 2005 through the estate of Virginia French Bosch in honor of her husband, Dr. Leon A. Bosch '29. The appointment is to be held by an outstanding faculty member in the Department of Department of Economics, Management and Accounting, who has a strong interest in management and organizational development.

Drs. Edward A. and Elizabeth Hofma Endowed Professorship
An endowed professorship established by the Board of Trustees of the Drs. Edward A. and Elizabeth Hofma Trust, to be held by a faculty member who has a major responsibility for the instruction of pre-medical students. Normally, this will be a member of the Biology Department or the Chemistry Department. Drs. Edward A. and Elizabeth Hofma were longtime residents of Grand Haven, Michigan, in which community these doctors served as distinguished and respected physicians.

DuMez Endowed Professorship
An endowed professorship established in 1996 by Mrs. Mabelle DuMez Frei, a 1926 graduate of Hope College. Its purpose is to provide financial support to a faculty member within the English Department who has a distinguished record of achievement both as a teacher and as scholar.

Elmer E. Hartgerink '39 Endowed Professorship in Chemistry
An endowed professorship established in 1991 by Elmer and Margaret Hartgerink through a gift of stock in the Wyckoff Chemical Company in South Haven, MI, where Elmer Hartgerink served as chairman and CEO from 1979-1989. The holder of the professorship is required to be outstanding chemist dedicated to students, teaching and research, and committed to the Christian faith.

Evert J. and Hattie E. Blekkink Professorship
An endowed professorship created from the bequest of the late Victor and Ruth Blekkink in honor of their parents to provide financial support for a member of the faculty who is selected on the basis of a distinguished record as an outstanding teacher, recognized scholarly contributions, and significant contributions to the overall mission of the college. The professorship is open to faculty members in the Departments of Education and Religion.

Genevra Thome Begg Director of Libraries
An endowed fund established by the late Genevra Begg. Her love of libraries and the college resulted in her bequest to establish the Genevra Thome Begg Director of Libraries Endowed Fund.

Granger Endowed Professorship in Economics, Management and Accounting
This fund was established through the generosity of Ronald Keith & Donna Mae Granger of Lansing, Michigan. The Grangers are business leaders known for demonstrating their Christian faith by investing their time, talent and treasure, making a positive difference in their community. This fund will recognize an outstanding professor with a spiritually mature Christian faith whose teaching and actions are exemplary, and who makes a positive difference in the lives of Hope College students and the world beyond. This professorship is held by a faculty member in the Department of Economics, Management & Accounting who openly shares his or her Christianity to help students grow in their own faith while at Hope College.

Guy Vander Jagt '53 Endowed Professorship
An endowed professorship established by friends of the Honorable Guy Vander Jagt as an expression of their appreciation for his distinguished leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives and for his dedication to the ideals and values that have been the inherent strength of our nation. Mr. Vander Jagt, a 1953 graduate of Hope College and a student leader and distinguished orator while at Hope, has won national acclaim as an orator. He served in the Congress of the United States from 1966-1992 as Representative of the Ninth Congressional District in Michigan. In recognition of his distinguished career, the Board of Trustees of Hope College conferred upon Mr. Vander Jagt the honorary Doctor of Laws degree in 1983. This professorship is held by a distinguished faculty member, preferably one who has a special interest in oratory, or the interface between politics and communication.

Harrison C. and Mary L. Visscher Endowed Professorship in Genetics
An endowed professorship established by Dr. Harrison C. Visscher '51 and Mary L. Zweizig '52 Visscher. This professorship is to be held by a distinguished member of the biology faculty who leads an active teaching and research program in the field of genetics and/or molecular biology and demonstrates in their professional and personal life a commitment to the mission of college.

Hinga-Boersma Dean of the Chapel Fund
Max '46 and Connie Hinga '49 Boersma established this fund to support an endowed position, Dean of the Chapel, in honor of Connie's father, Milton "Bud" Hinga. The Dean of the Chapel's office will support efforts to strengthen the spiritual life of the Hope College campus and to enable the influence of the college's Christian life and witness to extend beyond Hope's borders.

Howard R. and Margaret E. Sluyter Endowed Professorship In Art and Design
An endowed professorship given by Mrs. Margaret E. Sluyter to be held by a faculty member in the Art Department whose primary responsibilities are teaching courses and professional activity in the field of interior design. Dr. Howard R. Sluyter graduated from Hope in 1928 and had a distinguished career in business. He served as a Trustee of Hope College from 1971-1986. Through her life-long interest and involvement in interior design, Mrs. Sluyter recognized the place of interior design in a liberal arts curriculum.

John Dirk Werkman Endowed Professorship
An endowed professorship established by Mary K. Werkman in the name of her husband, John Dirk Werkman, a graduate of Hope College in 1889. This professorship is held by a faculty member at Hope College who has a distinguished record of achievement as both teacher and scholar.

John H. and Jeanne M. Jacobson Endowed Professorship
The Jacobson endowed professorship was established by the Board of Trustees of Hope College in 1999 to honor Dr. John H. Jacobson, the tenth President of Hope College (1987-1999) and Senior Research Fellow of the A.C. Van Raalte Institute of Hope College. Before coming to Hope College, the Jacobsons had distinguished careers in education in both Florida and New York. The Jacobson Professorship will be held by tenured faculty members with a commitment to the Christian faith who are outstanding teacher-scholars or artists and who propose to conduct a significant program of research or creative activity.

Kenneth G. Herrick Endowed Professorship
An endowed professorship established in 1981, and named in honor of Mr. Kenneth G. Herrick, President of the Herrick Foundation and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Tecumseh Products, Inc., in recognition of and appreciation for his generous support of Hope College. This chair is held by a faculty member in one of the following Departments: Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics and Business Administration, Geology, Mathematics, or Physics.

Kenneth J. Weller '48 Endowed Professorship in Management
This professorship was established in 2011 with a generous leadership gift from James '63 and Ginger Huizenga '64 Jurries in honor of Kenneth J. Weller '48, Jim's cherished mentor at Hope. This appointment is for a faculty mentor in the department of Economics, Management and Accounting. The holder of this professorship shall have a distinguished record of teaching, scholarship, and leadership, and a demonstrated commitment to the Christian faith. The appointment is for a five-year period and is renewable.

Lavern '39 and Betty DePree '41 Van Kley Endowed Professorship
A four-year rotating endowed professorship established through the generosity of Lavern and Betty DePree Van Kley to recognize an outstanding teacher-scholar who exemplifies in their personal and professional lives the Christian values which have marked the Hope experience since its founding.

Leonard and Marjorie Maas Endowed Professorship in Reformed Theology
An endowed professorship established by Leonard and Marjorie Maas in 2006 for a faculty member whose scholarly emphasis is on the historical and philosophical development of Reformed theology through the present day. The professorship is established through the generosity of Leonard and Marjorie Maas, longtime supporters of Hope, lifelong members of the Reformed Church in America, and recipients of honorary doctorates from the college. This chair is held by a faculty member who has a distinguished record of achievement as both teacher and scholar and one who has mature understanding of and commitment to the Christian faith.

Maas Endowed Chaplaincy Fund
This fund was established through the generosity of Leonard and Marjorie Maas. Holders of this endowed chair will assist individual students and groups of students to respond to personal and spiritual challenges and to grow in their faith. The Chaplain will support groups of students who seek to meet, share, learn, serve and pray together.

Mary Riepma Ross Directorship of the Joint Archives of Holland
This directorship was established by Mary Riepma Ross to maintain and preserve the college's archival program, including the organization and preservation of the Riepma/Van Zwaluwenburg family archives in their possession.

Peter C. and Emajean Cook Endowed Professorship
An endowed professorship established by Peter C. and Emajean Cook to provide financial support for a faculty member who has an established record of excellence as a Christian scholar, as evidenced by effectiveness in teaching, a record of scholarship, a Christian life marked by a meaningful integration of faith and practice, and who subscribes to the concept and principle of the free enterprise system.

Rev. Frederich Garrett & Helen Floor Dekker Endowed Professorship
A professorship established by the estate of Dr. Fred H. and Marie V. Buranek Decker to provide financial support for a faculty member who has an established record of excellence in biophysics, biomedicine or biology.

Robert W. Haack Professorship of Economics
An endowed chair established by Mr. Robert W. Haack '38, a distinguished business leader, most notably as President and Chief Executive Officer of the New York Stock Exchange and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lockheed Corporation. Following retirement, Mr. Haack served as a member of the Board of Directors of a number of major U.S. corporations. This chair is to be held by a distinguished economist dedicated to teaching, research and the mission of Hope College.

Ruch Directorship of the Baker Scholar Program
This fund was established through the generosity of the Ruch family. This fund shall be dedicated to support the advisor of the Baker Scholar Program and to further strengthen the academic program of the Department of Business and Economics to elevate its natural stature and reputation.

Susan M. and Glenn G. Cherup Endowed Professorship In Education
An endowed professorship established by Susan M. Mooy '64 Cherup and Glenn G. Cherup, along with an anonymous donor, to provide financial support for a member of the faculty who is an outstanding teacher, demonstrates a commitment to the mission of Hope College, and has a record of recognized excellence in preparing undergraduates for careers as teachers. The professorship is held by a member of the Education Department with preference given to a qualified professor whose work is focused on children with special needs. The professorship shall be held for a term of five years and may be renewed once.

T. Elliot Weier Endowed Professorship In Biology
A fund established by a bequest from the late Katherine. S. Weier to provide financial support for a faculty member within the Biology Department who has a distinguished record of achievement both as a teacher and a scholar. Each appointee is to be publicly referred to as The Weier Professor of Plant Science.

Endowed Funds

1940s Memorial Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund for deserving students with financial need, with preference given to students pursuing a degree in history or creative writing. This fund was established in 2009 by the generosity of several donors and the proceeds from the sales of Hope at the Crossroads: The War Years to honor the lives of 43 Hope students and alumni who lost their lives in military service during World War II.

A.A. Raven Prize in Communication
Awarded to the student who best demonstrates excellence in communication through leadership and/or the effective presentation of issues of public significance.

A.J. Muste Lecture Fund
The A.J. Muste Memorial Lecture is given each year in honor of the 1905 Hope College graduate A. J. Muste. A longtime leader in the peace movement and in labor organizing, Muste was once called "the nation's leading pacifist" by "Time" magazine. His deeply religious approach to peacemaking was widely recognized.

A.T. Godfrey Chemistry Award Fund
A cash award to the senior student chosen the outstanding student in chemistry.

Adelaide and Geraldine Dykhuizen Memorial Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Adelaide and Geraldine Dykhuizen in memory of their brother, Dr. Harold Dykhuizen '30, to provide annual scholarship aid to needy students, with preference given to students interested in pursuing a pre- medical program.

Adrian and Myrtle E. deBoom Scholarship Fund
A fund established in memory of Hope College President Edward D. Dimnent, 1918-1931.

Adrian, Florence & A. John Klaasen Memorial Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide assistance to deserving juniors and seniors who have demonstrated financial need and plan to major in economics or business administration. Established in memory of Florence and Dr. Adrian Klaasen, professor of business administration at Hope from 1947 to 1968.

Agnes F. Ross Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide scholarship aid for worthy students.

Aimee Sterk '97 Psychology Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide assistance to deserving students majoring in Psychology. Students selected will be in their junior or senior year. Given in honor of Aimee Sterk '97 by her father, Stanley Sterk '70, in appreciation for her Hope College experience.

Al and Phyllis Bursma Summer Research Fund in the Humanities & Arts
This fund is established to provide support for summer collaborative student and faculty research in the humanities or the arts as the first and second choice. If there are not projects in these areas, the grant money would support summer collaborative research in the social sciences. Recommendations for funding are made by the selection committee in response to applications from faculty.

Alan '55 and Mary Jane Adams '56 Dykema Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund established for deserving students with financial need. First preference will go to out of state students in their sophomore year who are planning to major in history, political science or the sciences.

Albert E. Lampen Mathematics Prize
A cash award to the senior student chosen as the outstanding student in mathematics.

Albert E. Lampen Scholarship Fund
A fund for deserving students with financial need. First preference will be given to students majoring in mathematics.

Albert H. '23 and Esther D. '25 Timmer Scholarship Fund
A fund for deserving students with financial need. This fund is made possible by the family of Albert H. Timmer, who faithfully served Hope College for over 40 years in the role of professor, administrator and coach.

Albert Till Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund created by the estate of Albert Till Jr. to assist deserving students with financial need.

Albert and Susie Ritsema Music Scholarship Fund
A scholarship established by their four children, three of whom were music majors at Hope College. Preference should be given to a string player on a competitive basis.

Albertus C. Van Raalte Scholarship Fund
This fund was established by the Board of Trustees of Hope College to honor the founder of Hope College, The Reverend Albertus C. Van Raalte, and to memorialize the visit of Her Majesty Queen Beatrix and His Royal Highness Prince Claus of The Netherlands to Hope College in June 1982. First preference in awarding these scholarships is given to juniors and seniors who have an interest in The Netherlands-America Studies.

Alex '50 and Betty Ebneth Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide assistance to deserving students with financial need. Established by Alex '50 and Betty Ebneth.

Alfred and Dorothy Popma Fund for Biology
A fund established by Alfred M. and Dorothy W. Popma in memory of Dr. Frank N. Patterson, professor of natural sciences at Hope College from 1909-1926. The money from this fund is to be used at the discretion of the Biology Department Chair.

Alice H. Rodstrom '29 Scholarship Fund
A fund providing assistance to deserving students with financial need. Preference will be given to students interested in pursuing a career in Christian service.

Allan C. Kinney Memorial Fund
Provides an annual cash award to the outstanding graduating senior majoring in economics, management or accounting. The recipient will be selected by the faculty members teaching in these areas on the basis of scholarship, contribution to campus life and promise of an outstanding career.

Allen D. Verhey Memorial Prize for Faithful Scholarship
The Allen D. Verhey Memorial Prize for Faithful Scholarship shall be awarded to a senior Religion student who is planning on further education (graduate school or seminary) after graduating from Hope College.

Almon T. and Harriet M. Godfrey Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Dr. and Mrs. Almon T. Godfrey's estate to provide scholarships for outstanding chemistry students.

Altruistic Economics Research Fund
A fund to support the analysis, development, collection, research and dissemination of ideas, principles and data as it relates to economics of any and all altruistic service and charitable focused, motivated, enabled or facilitated activities, groups, collectives, organizations, churches, schools, colleges, universities, hospitals, libraries and associations to measure the impact of all forms of altruistic service and charitable activities and ideas on the individual family and the state, local, national and global economy.

Alvin J. Neevel Scholarship Fund
A fund for deserving students with financial need.

Alvin W. Vanderbush '29 Award Fund
A fund established in honor of Alvin W. Vanderbush who served his alma mater for 27 years as a teacher and football coach. Awarded each year to an academically gifted student.

Amber Buikema Scholarship Fund
A fund for deserving students with financial need with preference given to students who plan to enter the nursing field.

Ame Vennema Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide financial assistance to capable and needy students. Given by Florence V. Lichte in memory of her father, fourth president of Hope College, 1911-1918.

Andrew G. Nyboer Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established by Marion A. Nyboer in honor of her husband, Dr. Andrew Nyboer, to provide assistance to a deserving junior or senior with financial need planning on a career in ministry with first preference to those planning to attend Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Michigan.

Andy J. Egan Company Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established by the Andy J. Egan Company of Grand Rapids, Michigan, a contractor specializing in facilities construction and maintenance, to assist deserving students with preference given to children or grandchildren of Egan employees, and those entering the field of mechanical engineering or business administration.

Ann M. Griep Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide assistance to deserving students with financial need, with first preference given to those pursuing a major in foreign languages. Given by John '58 and Hope Griep in honor of their daughter, Ann Marie Backeljauw-Griep.

Anna Mae Tensen Scholarship Fund
Established through the estate of Anna Mae Tensen, of Rochester, New York, to provide assistance to deserving students.

Anthony "Tony" Muiderman Baker Scholars Endowed Fund
The fund was established in honor of Tony Muiderman for the years of service and leadership he provided the Baker Scholar program of Hope College. Tony's gift and commitment to working with students throughout their years at Hope and beyond helped establish a long and successful history of Hope College's Baker Scholar program. Resources from this fund will support all dimensions of the Baker Scholar program.

Anthony Kooiker Music Library Fund
A fund to to maintain and purchase materials for the Hope College Music Library.

Anthony Kooiker Music Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund established to provide financial aid to deserving students. First preference will be given to worthy students pursuing a career in music.

Anthony and Mae DePree '12 Luidens Faculty Development Fund
A fund awarded annually to support the study of some aspect of the relation between the Church and contemporary society -- with particular focus on national and global issues.

Antoinette Carolyn Sikkel Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Antoinette "Toni" Sikkel, through her estate, to provide financial assistance to deserving students with financial need.

Antoinette Kieft Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund created by Antoinette Kieft to provide financial assistance to deserving students. Further, a recipient student shall intend to pursue a career in business and/or accounting upon graduation from Hope College. The recipient of this scholarship will be chosen by the Department of Business and Economics or any dean of a Hope College business school, a citizen of the United States, and enrolled full-time in the Department of Business and Economics. Further, part of the assessment of the candidate would include the student's commitment to the Reformed Church in America and Christian ethics.

Arie H. Van Dyke Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Mrs. Ada Van Dyke and her children in memory of Mr. Van Dyke. This scholarship is to be awarded to a deserving student, with preference given to a member of the Reformed Church of America.

Arie and Johanna Van Ooyen Scholarship
A fund established to honor the lives of Arie and Johanna Van Ooyen, by their family and friends. This scholarship will provide assistance to deserving students with financial need. First preference will be given to students from Trinity Reformed Church of Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Arp Family Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund for deserving students with financial need. First preference will be given to students from the Reformed Church of America. This scholarship was provided through the estate of Marjorie Arp.

Arthur J. TerKeurst '32 Psychology Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Ruth Laug Ter Keurst as a memorial to her husband, Dr. Arthur John Ter Keurst. This scholarship is awarded at the conclusion of the junior year to a student majoring in psychology who has a distinguished academic record and financial need, and who, in the opinion of the Psychology Department faculty, shows promise of a distinguished career in psychology.

Arthur Jentz Memorial Scholarship
To assist students with financial need. First preference will be given to students majoring in philosophy.

Arts and Humanities Faculty Development Fund
A fund established to support faculty development within the divisions of the Arts and the Humanities.

Arts and Humanities Fund for Student Research and Creative Performance
A fund established to provide income supporting and celebrating undergraduate research and creative performance in the Arts and Humanities Division. Administered by the Dean of the Arts and Humanities. Initiated through the generosity of Bill and Maura Reynolds.

Audrey Prins Rasmussen Scholarship Fund
A scholarship for deserving female students with financial need planning to enter the field of law.

August VanEerden Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund established to provide assistance to students with financial need. Priority will be given to Holland High School graduates majoring in education.

Barbara Brunson Elzinga Scholarship
A fund established by family and friends in memory of Barbara Brunson Elzinga, who went to be with her Lord in 1978, to provide a scholarship to be awarded to a female student with a zest for life and a commitment to the Christian faith.

Barbara Dykstra Anker Scholarship
This scholarship was funded through a charitable remainder trust established by Charles C. and Barbara Dykstra Anker in memory of Barbara's parents, Iekje and Bonne Dykstra, and Charles and Barbara's son, Christian. Upon Barbara's death, funds from the trust were converted into this endowed scholarship for the purpose of providing financial aid to deserving students majoring in pre-medicine or nursing.

Barbara May Wolfe '58 Vander Ven Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund for deserving students with financial need. Awarding preference will be given to a junior or senior committed to a career in elementary education who have exhibited above average achievement. Recipients must also demonstrate their love of children and be dedicated to their future growth and development.

Barbara Mouw '76 Poppe Endowed Scholarship Fund
A fund established for deserving students with financial need. First preference will be given to a Christian education student preparing to teach reading at the elementary level in a public school.

Barbara Yager Hepburn Memorial Scholarship Fund
A fund for deserving students with financial need. First preference will be given to students planning to major in elementary education with special interest in children at risk.

Barnabas Scholarship Fund
A fund established to provide scholarship aid for students who demonstrate financial need. This fund is named after Barnabas, the New Testament friend of Paul who sold all he had, gave it away and went out and preached the gospel.

Barry Fuller & Christine Modey Next Generation Scholarship Fund
A scholarship for high achieving students with financial need who are the first in their immediate family to attend a four-year college. The fund will give preference to students from under-represented racial and ethnic minorities whose academic and career plans reflect intention to effect social change and promote the common good.

Barry and Judy Werkman Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Barry '64 and Judy Dirkse '65 Werkman for deserving students with financial need. Preference will be given to a graduate of West Ottawa High School majoring in accounting or elementary education.

Bateman VanEngen Family Scholarship Fund
A fund for deserving students with financial need. Preference will be given to students from states outside of the Midwest or from countries other than the United States. Established by John '97 and Anita Van Engen '98 Bateman in honor of their parents.

Benjamin H. Van Andel Scholarship Fund
A fund providing financial assistance to deserving students with financial need. Assistance must range between 20% and 40% of tuition.

Benjamin J. Buckhout Memorial Scholarship
A fund established in memory of Benjamin J. Buckhout to provide assistance to deserving students with financial need. Ben touched the lives of many faculty, staff, and students in the few short weeks he attended Hope, and the Spirit of God was made manifest because of his death.

Bernadine Siebers De Valois Scholarship Fund
This scholarship fund was established from the estate of Bernadine Siebers De Valois (class of 1930), an inspirational woman, surgeon and medical missionary to India. Funds will be awarded to junior and senior students with a preference given to those entering careers in a field for medical missions or underserved areas.

Bernard J. and Louise E. Mulder Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide aid to deserving students, with preference given to those wishing to pursue a career in Christian education. Given by Bernard and Louise Mulder.

Bernard and Dorothy Shoemaker Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established by Mr. Albert Au and Family of Los Angeles, California in gratitude for generosity of Bernard and Dorothy Shoemaker who helped him gain an education during his youth. Preference will be given to students with financial need.

Bertelle Arkell Barbour Scholarship Fund
Aid to worthy students provided by the Arkell Hall Foundation, Canajoharie, New York.

Betsy King '66 Stavenger & Ruth King '69 Seiger Education Scholarship
This scholarship fund was established by Dave and Betsy King Stavenger to provide assistance to 2nd through 4th year students with financial need who are on track to a career in elementary education. Preference will be given to students from Midland, Michigan.

Bob and Crystal Etheridge Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund established by Bob and Crystal Etheridge in memory of her parents, John and Mary Vandermyde, to provide financial assistance to deserving students, with preference given to students pursuing a career in ministry, missions or nursing.

Bonita "Bonnie" Zandbergen Scholarship Fund
A fund for a deserving student with financial need who are planning a career in elementary education. This scholarship was provided through the estate of Bonita '48 "Bonnie" Zandbergen in honor of her distinguished career in education.

Borgeson Artist in Residence Fund
This fund was made possible through the generosity of Clark '72 and Nancy Rayner '72 Borgeson. The Department of Art & Art History at Hope College offers a residency for artists in design, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, or sculpture. The twelve-week residency runs each summer from the third week of May through the first week of August. Each summer, the department offers a number of courses, varying from art history, design, watercolor painting, and photography. While the resident is not required to teach an entire course, she or he is expected to have a presence at the De Pree Art Center in studio and would be asked to take part in student critiques. The Artist in Residence (AIR) will hold Master Classes (individual classes) for students and community members: one in May, another in August. The AIR is also expected to have an exhibit and an artist’s talk within the Greater Holland community during the residency.

Bos Family Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund for deserving students with financial need. Preference will be given to graduates of Holland Christian High School. This scholarship was established by Lisa Bos '97 to honor her parents, Mark and Karen Bos, for their years of service to Hope and the Holland community.

Boundy Computer Science Award
Annual cash award funded by David Boundy and given to the person in the graduating class who is deemed by the computer science faculty to have the greatest potential for making future contributions to the field of computer science.

Bouwens Family Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established to honor Glenn '50 and Lila Bouwens, by their family. First preference is given to students with financial need from the Reformed Church in America and from Ottawa County.

Brad Williams Memorial Award Fund
A fund which will provide a cash award to one or more students, completing their junior or senior year, who are selected by the theatre faculty for demonstrating outstanding creativity and promise in the theatre arts. The award honors Brad Williams, Hope Class of 1973, who was involved for over 20 years at Hope as an actor, designer and puppeteer.

Bradley '04 and Heather Tobert '06 Norden Scholarship Fund
A fund for deserving nursing students with financial need. Preference will be given to students with a strong interest in advanced practice nursing.

Branch Scholarship Fund
This fund is for students who display academic ability, financial need, and above all a sense of purpose and direction in their Christian faith regardless of their career. Given by Kurt Van Genderen, President of Branch Capital Management, and his wife, Beverly Joeckel Van Genderen.

Brian '84 and Barbara Gibbs Vienna Summer School Scholarship Fund
A fund established in 2006 by Brian '84 and Barbara Gibbs to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Vienna Summer School Program and honor of Dr. Stephen Hemenway's 30 years of service as Program Director. The scholarship provides financial assistance to deserving students attending the Vienna Summer School.

Brian '92, Mitchell & Abigail Pietenpol Memorial Scholarship
A fund established by Glenn '64 and Mary Pietenpol in memory of their son, Brian '92, and his children, Mitchell and Abigail, who died tragically on November 28, 2003. Scholarships are awarded to juniors or seniors from Michigan who plan to enter the field of accounting or education and are involved in church and Christian service, with preference given to students involved in "The Pull", intramural sports, or the Vienna Summer School program.

Brian and Cathy Walchenbach Koop Family Business Scholarship
A scholarship for deserving students with financial need. First preference will be given to a student who truly desires an academically excellent and vibrantly Christian liberal arts education with emphasis in the study of Business or Economics.

Brookstra Faculty Development Fund
This fund was established through the generosity of the family of Dr. Arthur Brookstra, and in special recognition of Miss Mardelle Brookstra, a longtime employee of Hope College. The income from this fund is used to support the self-renewal of faculty, and can be used for summer grants or any other purpose that is consistent with the President's Discretionary Fund for Self-Renewal.

This fund was established through the generosity of the family of Dr. Arthur Brookstra and in special recognition of Miss Mardelle Brookstra, a longtime employee of Hope College.

Bruce Van Buskirk Scholarship Fund
A scholarship established by Bruce Van Buskirk '72 for students with financial need with preference given to students with a visual impairment. Second preference given to students with a physical handicap or disability.

Burr Tillstrom Scholarship Fund
A scholarship honoring Burr Tillstrom, television pioneer and creator of Kukla, Fran, and Ollie, for the friendship and inspiration enjoyed by Hope students, faculty, and artists, through his long collaborative association with the department. The scholarship is awarded to a theatre major who demonstrates financial need, has completed at least one year at Hope, and in the estimation of the Theatre Department faculty has been an outstanding participant in the program and shows genuine promise of making a significant contribution to the profession.

Buteyn Family Scholarship Fund
A fund has been established in honor of John E. (Jack) Buteyn Jr., and his father Dr. John E. Buteyn for the combined 90 years of service in the Reformed Church of America. The scholarship is to be awarded to any deserving student who is a member of the Reformed Church in America (RCA).

Bylsma Family Scholarship Fund
A fund established by the estate of William and Marie Bylsma along with the generosity of Gary '60 and Judy Bylsma to provide assistance to deserving students with financial need who display a sense of purpose and direction in their Christian faith.

Byrne Diversity Scholarship
A fund established by David M. '90 and Rhonda Boelkins '90 Byrne for deserving students with demonstrated financial need who will increase the diversity at Hope College, create greater understanding and appreciation of our differences, reduce tensions in the world, and enhance the experience of all students at Hope College. Factors that may be considered in awarding of the this scholarship include, but are not limited to, ethnicity, race, religion, citizenship, region where the student lives, life experiences, nationality, high school, culture, etc., with preference given to students of African or Hispanic/Latino descent.

C. Baars and Margo Bultman Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund for incoming students with financial need who are interested in the field of education. First preference will be given to students from Fremont and is renewable each year. This fund was established by Frank D. Gerber to honor Baars and Margo Bultman as friends and mentors, former teachers in Fremont, MI, and as professor at Hope.

A scholarship fund given by C. Leonard Shoniker, a Holland native and friend of Hope College, to provide assistance to one or more deserving Hope students with financial need.

Cady-Blom Vienna Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide financial assistance to deserving Hope College students attending the Vienna Summer School program. First preference will be given to a resident of Ottawa County, Michigan or the City of Chicago, Illinois or its suburbs. In honor of eight members of the Cady and Blom family who attended Vienna Summer School program. This fund was initiated by John E. and Genevieve Cady Blom Trust and has been added to by family and friends.

Calvin '37 and Rachel VanderWerf Scholarship Fund
Established by family and friends in memory of Calvin A. VanderWerf, eighth president of Hope College, to provide scholarship assistance to deserving entering students with demonstrated academic achievement and leadership potential. Recipients are designated "VanderWerf Scholars."

A fund for deserving students with financial need. First preference will be given to students majoring in music with additional preference given to those participating in choir.

A fund established by Dr. David M. Stehouwer '65 in memory of his wife, Carol Cherry Stehouwer, to provide scholarships for students with financial need who are pursuing a degree in english, with preference given to those who wish to teach.

Carpenter Family Diversity Scholarship Fund
A scholarship established by the Carpenter family for deserving students with financial need. First preference will be given to students of African, Hispanic/Latino or Asian descent in order to increase the racial diversity of the Hope College student population.

A scholarship fund for deserving students with financial need. This scholarship was established by Steve and Lisa Carter in grateful recognition of the education Bryn Carter '08 received at Hope. The scholarship is unrestricted and given with the intent that the Hope experience continues to be enriched by students with diverse backgrounds, interests and talents.

Caryl Curtis VanHouten Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund for deserving students with financial need. First preference will be given to minority or international students who plan to pursue a career in nursing, elementary education, biology or the social sciences. A fund to provide scholarships to deserving students who are entering their junior or senior year and who are involved in at least two extra-curricular activities. Established by Catherine Jo Morrison Lane.

Catherine Morrison '89 Book Awards
Awards presented to juniors who have demonstrated academic excellence and who intend to pursue careers in science or math education at the elementary or secondary level. Awards take the form of gift certificates to the Hope-Geneva Bookstore. Given by Jobe and Julia Morrison in honor of their daughter Catherine Morrison Lane.

Center for Ministry Studies Endowment Fund
This Endowment Fund will support the operations of the Center for Ministry Studies, home of the Studies in Ministry Minor. The Center's mission is to prepare students for work in churches and para-church ministries and provide programs for adults seeking theological grounding for ministries in a variety of settings.

This scholarship was established in 2001 in honor Cheri DeVos. The scholarship fund provides financial assistance to deserving students demonstrating strong academic achievement and commitment to the Christian Faith with preference given to students pursuing careers in business.

A scholarship established to provide assistance to deserving students with financial need. Awarding preference will be given to students who are members of a church in the Illiana Classis of the Reformed Church in America, and next preference to students who are members of an Illinois or Indiana congregation of either the Reformed Church in America or the Christian Reformed Church denomination.

Dr. De Graaf taught in the Department of English for 44 years until his retirement in 1972, and served as Department Chairman for 25 of those years. The income from this fund is used to bring a distinguished speaker to the campus for a public event. The selection of the lecturer will be made by the Department of English faculty, bearing in mind the speaker's appeal to students and faculty of all disciplines.

Clarence Kleis Physics Fund
A fund established by the family of Clarence Kleis, Professor of Physics from 1921-1964. The income from the fund is awarded to faculty members of the Physics Department for assistance in their research programs.

Clarence P. Dame Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide aid to students who are preparing for full-time Christian service in the Reformed Church in America and who are in financial need. Priority is given to students from the Second Reformed Church of Kalamazoo and the Classis of Kalamazoo. Given by Clarence P. Dame, leader in the R.C.A. denomination.

Established by Bruce Davis, a 1983 VSS alumnus, in honor of his grandparents, Clarence T. "Binsky" and Mary E. Fritz, this scholarship provides one award of $600 to a student (Hope or non-Hope) who demonstrates financial need and has a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Dale Burns Brown Early Education Fund
A fund established to provide resources to enhance the Early Childhood Program at Hope College. Funds will underwrite faculty-student participation in state and national conferences, presentations by national experts on campus, and development of collaborations with educators in the West Michigan community. Given in honor of Dale's exceptional commitment to early childhood education by her classmate and husband, Kenneth Brown '60.

Dance Marathon 'Giving Hope to Kids' Scholarship Fund
A fund established by the Hope College Dance Marathon organization to promote the legacy of volunteerism by Dance Marathon on Hope's campus. The fund will benefit a deserving junior or senior student who has participated in Dance Marathon for at least two years. Students should have also demonstrated a commitment to their school work by maintaining at least a 3.0 GPA. Preference is given to students who have directly benefited from the services of pediatric care in the context of a serious or extraordinary childhood or adolescent illness.

Danforth Religious Speakers Fund (Lecture Series)
The Danforth Foundation provides an endowment fund at Hope College whose annual interest is used to enrich the religious life of the college community. The goal of the fund is to bring outstanding scholars and religious leaders to the Hope College campus. The Danforth speakers will provide the occasion for faculty and student reflection on the Judeo-Christian religious tradition and will stimulate spiritual life on campus.

Dangremond Trio Scholarship Fund

The David & Jane Armstrong Lecture Series for the Kruizenga Art Museum was established in 2015 to provide valuable educational programming to enhance exhibitions and works of art on view at the museum. The David & Jane Armstrong Lecture Series celebrates a wonderful legacy that reflects the Armstrong’s long-time investments in the arts and their residency in Holland.

David Beyer Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established by the family and friends of David Beyer, loyal Christian with commitment to others, who died as the result of an automobile accident in 1985. This scholarship is established to provide financial aid to a junior or senior student, who by example has provided leadership on campus and has given evidence of personal commitment to Christian values. Preference given to students studying in the areas of religion and psychology.

David Lee Viel Scholarship Fund
A scholarship for deserving students with financial need. First preference will be given to pre-medical students. This scholarship was established in honor and memory of David Lee Viel '62 a very talented, resourceful and respected Hope pre-medical student who was killed in his junior year in an automobile accident.

Dennis and Elsie DeKorver Scholarship Fund
A fund established by the estate of Dennis and Elsie DeKorver to provide assistance to deserving students with financial need and demonstrated academic excellence. First preference will be given to young men who are members of the Reformed Church in America and who are seeking a degree in religion with a desire for full time pulpit ministry. This scholarship honors the memory of the Reverend Dewey Van Den Berg.

A fund established to provide scholarship assistance to deserving students preparing for a career in business administration, with preference given to those interested in marketing.

Diane Murray Hispanic Student Scholarship Fund
A scholarship for deserving students of Hispanic background from the counties of Ottawa and Allegan with financial need. The fund was established by Diane LaBoueff '64 Murray in gratitude for the contributions of our Hispanic neighbors, this fund invests in the future of our community.

Diephuis Scholarship Fund
A fund, established by Robert '58 and Mary Katherine Diephuis '58 Andree to assist deserving students with financial need, with preference given to students entering nursing, medicine, or the health professions.

Dirk Stephen Doorenbos Scholarship Fund
A fund established by the friends of Dirk Stephen Doorenbos, Class of 1981, to assist deserving students with financial need. Preference would be given to students majoring in geology.

Dirk VanderLinden Gleysteen and Fanny Steffens Gleysteen Scholarship Fund
A fund to assist deserving students at Hope, who without such assistance might not be able to obtain the advantage of a college education.

A fund established to provide resources for Bible studies, small groups, retreats, Gospel Choir, and Worship Team.

Don and Maxine Mulder Miller International Education Fund
Established by Don '53 and Maxine Mulder '53 Miller, the Miller International Education Fund will be used to make awards to deserving students for international and overseas study programs.

Donald '51 "Dutch" and Rosemarie Van Ingen Teambuilding Fund
A fund to support the Athletic Department in their ongoing work to build and strengthen relationships between athletes, coaches and the community. This fund will be used to support team building activities and initiatives.

Established by Don and Lileeth Van Ark to provide scholarships to assist any deserving student pursuing a career in education with preference to those students from the Reformed Church in America.

Donald W. Cordes Faculty Development Fund
A faculty development fund established by the estate of Donald W. Cordes. This fund is to be used for faculty development at the discretion of the Provost's Office. Preference will be given to faculty in health-related fields.

Donald W. Hoffman Family Scholarship Fund
A fund providing assistance to deserving students with financial need. Preference will be given to students of the Christian faith interested in the educational or healing ministries. This fund made possible by the Amerikam, Inc. family of Grand Rapids, in honor of Donald W. '52 and Linda Miner '55 Hoffman.

Donald W. Visser '37 Summer Research Fellowship
A fellowship established by Dr. Donald W. Visser, Class of 1937, and his wife, Marie. Awards from this fund are used to support student research in chemistry and biochemistry.

A fund to provide piano scholarships in the Department of Music for deserving students. Funded by friends and family in loving memory of Donald Weener.

This scholarship was established in 2003 by Eunice '52 and Donald '55 Northuis. This scholarship is awarded to a deserving students majoring in education.

Donald and Kathleen Rynbrandt Family Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide assistance to deserving students with financial need. First preference will be given to students graduating from the Hudsonville Public Schools. Given by Donald '62 and Kathleen Rynbrandt in honor of Don's parents, Burr and Henrietta Rynbrandt, who sacrificially provided for Don to become the first college graduate in their family.

Donald and Norma Rayner Scholarship Fund
A scholarship for deserving students with financial need who plan to pursue a career in finance or accounting. This scholarship has been established by members of the Borgeson, Fulghum and Rayner families in memory of their parents, Don and Norma Rayner who led by example with strong values, including honesty, integrity and a persistent work ethic. One of their children and both of their grandchildren are Hope College graduates and Hope donors. The Borgeson, Fulghum and Rayner families wish to honor their legacy through support of future generations of Hope College graduates.

Doris Boersma Dahl Art Scholarship Fund
A fund established by family and friends in memory of Doris Boersma Dahl. The Scholarship provides assistance to promising art students.

Dorothy Grace Renzema Moore Award for Excellence in Math and Music
An award given at Honors Convocation to a senior mathematics major with demonstrated academic achievement and a love for sacred music. The fund was established in honor of Mrs. Dorothy Grace Renzema '43 Moore who majored in mathematics and had a life-long love of sacred music.

Dorothy Telfer '72 Duncan International Travel Scholarship
A fund for students with financial need who plan to study abroad for at least one semester. First preference shall be for students who study in Germany and the scholarship may be used to assist with tuition, travel and fees.. If there are no eligible students it may be used to benefit students studying in other countries. Dorothy Telfer Duncan established this scholarship in 2014 in appreciation for Hope's foreign language faculty.

Dorothy and Russell Siedentop Award Fund
A cash award to an outstanding graduating senior member of the Men's Basketball Team and an outstanding graduating senior member of the Women's Basketball Team. Preference will be given to students considering graduate school and careers in teaching and coaching. The recipients are chosen by the Athletic Committee. Given by Daryl Siedentop '60 in memory of his parents.

Douma-Vis Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Rev. and Mrs. George C. Douma in memory of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Douma and Rev. and Mrs. Jean A. Vis. The fund provides assistance to students planning to enter the Christian ministry.

Dow Corning Corporation Scholarship
For deserving students who have demonstrated financial need, with preference given to students from the Tri-City area of Midland, Bay City and Saginaw, and those students who are children of Dow Corning employees.

This scholarship was established by A. James and Iris Prins to assist one or more students with financial need, with preference given to students majoring in English and/or planning to enter the field of journalism or creative writing.

Dr. Allison and Mrs. Mildred Vanden Berg Scholarship Fund
This scholarship fund is designated to pre-med and nursing students. This scholarship, established through the estate of Allison R. VandenBerg, recognizes five generations of the VandenBerg family who graduated from Hope College.

Dr. Alwin Coleman Faculty Research Fund
A faculty development fund established through the estate of Dr. Alwin Coleman to provide funds for independent research for Hope College faculty in the departments of biology and chemistry.

Dr. Bernard J. DeWitt Chemistry Research Fund
A fund established by his wife, Pauline J. DeWitt and children, Deborah DeWitt and David DeWitt, in memory of the late Bernard J. DeWitt, BS, Hope College, 1937; PhD, Carnegie Mellon, 1940. The fund provides a stipend for a summer research student in chemistry.

Dr. Bernard J. Stremler '55 Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund established by Dr. Bernard J. Stremler '55 to provide assistance to deserving students with financial need majoring in science. Preference shall be given to students who intend to pursue a career in medicine. Dr. Stremler majored in biology at Hope and graduated from the School of Medicine at the University of Michigan. Dr. Stremler specialized in Anesthesiology and completed his residency at Providence Hospital.

A fund to assist students with financial need and to increase the racial, ethnic and economic diversity of the Hope community. Preference will be given to students of color engaged in a field of study leading to careers in education, Christian ministry or social work.

A scholarship fund providing financial assistance to deserving students showing financial need with preference given to those entering the dental profession.

Dr. Frederick '26 and Sarah Klooster '29 Olert Scholarship
This fund, established in 1999, honors Dr. and Mrs. Olert, faithful supporters and alumni of Hope College. Scholarships are awarded annually to deserving students with financial need, with preference given to students from the Presbyterian Church, USA.

Dr. Gerrit Van Zyl '18 Chemistry Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was initiated by the Burton G. Bettingen Corporation of Beverly Hills, California, to honor Dr. Gerrit Van Zyl, professor of chemistry and department chairman, 1923-1964. Scholarships will be awarded annually to outstanding chemistry students with financial need, with preference given to students engaged in independent research with faculty.

Dr. Harrison C. Visscher '51 and Dr. Robert D. Visscher '51 Lectureship in Genetics
Dr. Harrison C. Visscher '51 and Dr. Robert D. Visscher '51 Lectureship in Genetics: An endowed lectureship has been established by Dr. Harrison C. Visscher '51 and Dr. Robert D. Visscher '51. They practiced obstetrics and gynecology together for almost 20 years in Grand Rapids. In 1965 their interest in medical education lead to initiating an obstetrics and gynecology residency training program at Blodgett Memorial Medical Center and Saint Mary's Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. Dr. Harrison C. Visscher later spent 15 years in Washington DC as the Director of Education for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Dr. Robert D. Visscher started the first in vitro fertilization program in 1982 in western Michigan and later became the Executive Director of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. The purpose of this lectureship is to bring recognized scholars in the field of genetics to the Hope College campus for an annual lecture for faculty and students interested in genetics. Oversight shall be coordinated by the Dean of Natural and Applied Sciences and a committee. The committee shall be chaired by the holder of the Dr. Harrison C. Visscher '51 and Mary L. Visscher '52 Professorship in Genetics and shall include the Chairperson of the Department of Biology.

Dr. Harry F. and Jeannette Frissel Research Fund
A fund to honor a former Physics Department Chairman and his wife. In recognition of the importance of faculty-directed research for students, the fund provides for such research by a student during the summer or the academic year. The student is to be a promising physics major who has completed at least his/her sophomore year.

A fund to provide scholarship aid to a worthy student who desires higher education leading to a profession in medicine, nursing, biology, or teaching. Established by Dr Henry A. Christian.

Dr. Irwin Brink '52 Scholarship Fund
A fund for deserving students with financial need. First preference will be given to outstanding chemistry students engaged in independent research with faculty. This scholarship is made in honor of Dr. Irwin J. Brink, Professor Emeritus of Chemistry (1957-1996) and former Dean of Natural Sciences (1982-1988) in recognition of his dedication and contributions to Hope College and its students.

A fund established by his sister, Evelyn G. Mulder Weller, in loving memory of her dearly loved and highly respected brother. He was a proud and loyal graduate of Hope who received an honorary doctorate in laws from Hope in 1978. Preference is to be given to needy students interested in law or Christian service.

A fund created by family and friends of the late Judith A. Motiff, Hope professor of French 1969-2000, to support teaching, faculty professional development, and creative scholarship within the Department of French.

Dr. and Mrs. A. Livingston Warnshuis Scholarship Fund
A fund established through the generosity of Dr. and Mrs. A. Livingston Warnshuis. Dr. Warnhuis, an 1897 graduate of Hope College, had a distinguished career as a missionary to China, mission executive and church leader. The fund provides assistance to deserving students, with preference given to students who are children of pastors and of missionaries in the Reformed Church of America or who are preparing for the Christian ministry.

Dr. and Mrs. T.E. Su Scholarship
A fund established by the children of Dr. and Mrs. T .E. Su, who served Hope Hospital in Arnoy, China. This fund will provide scholarship aid for one or more students demonstrating academic excellence, financial need, and interest in the medical profession.

Dr. and Mrs. William George Hoebeke Scholarship
A fund established through the generosity of Dr. and Mrs. William George Hoebeke to provide scholarship assistance to deserving students, with preference given to students majoring in science. Dr. Hoebeke practiced medicine in Kalamazoo.

Drs. Eugene C. and Elaine Z. Jekel Award
An award for the outstanding first-year Hope College student who received both placement and college credit in chemistry through the Advanced Placement Program. An annual award to a first-year Hope College student who, prior to attending Hope College, completed an Advanced Placement Chemistry course in high school. Additionally, in selecting a student to receive this award, the Hope College Chemistry Department shall take into consideration the following: (1) the student’s score on the national AP Chemistry exam; (2) the number of AP Chemistry credits awarded by Hope College and (3) the student's rank in the upper-level chemistry course(s) in which the student is placed. A student receiving this Award need not intend to major in chemistry at Hope College. The Award shall be a Hope College Gift Certificate and shall be awarded only to a first-year Hope College student. This Award was established by Drs. Eugene C. and Elaine Z. Jekel.

A fund established by the children of E. Marie Wagenaar to provide financial assistance to deserving students, with preference given to those who exemplify both Marie's strong commitment to the Christian faith and her selfless desire to help others.

Earl H. '38 and Mildred E. Faber '39 Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Dr. Kirkwood Faber in honor or his parents Earl H. and Mildred E. (Kirkwood) Faber and all those that have selflessly assisted students with their tuition. Preference for this scholarship goes to students with financial need and a mature commitment to pay back the financial assistance the student received by way of assisting future students in like manner.

A fund established by Mr. and Mrs. Randall M. Dekker in honor of Edward D. Dimnent, who served Hope College as registrar, treasurer and teacher and as its fifth president. The income from this fund is for faculty renewal and study projects. It can be used for summer grants or any other purpose consistent with the President's Discretionary Fund for Self-Renewal. Requests for grants from this fund are channeled through the Office of the Provost.

Edward J. Wolters Classics Award
The Edward J. Wolters Classics Award has been established in honor of Professor Edward J. Wolters, late Professor Emeritus of Latin and Chairman of Classical Languages for nearly 40 years, until his retirement in 1966. This award is given to a student with an outstanding record of performance in advanced Latin classes or in Classical studies.

Ernestine Klerekoper '30 Beukema Scholarship Fund
Established by Henry J. Beukema '50 to honor Ernestine Klerekoper '30 Beukema, a gifted high school teacher of history and social sciences. She created a classroom setting that caused students to think, and she had a vital interest in the church and its related activities. The fund is for financial aid to students preparing for the Christian ministry, preference given to students from the Chicago Classis.

Esther M. Snow Vienna Scholarship Fund
Established in memory of Esther M. Snow, member of the Hope College faculty from 1937-1965, whose enthusiasm for music, German and Vienna served as an inspiration for many generations of Hope students. Esther Mulder and Henry P. Wackerbarth Memorial Scholarship Fund
A fund established to provide assistance to deserving students with financial need. Preference given to students of Hispanic origin. Recipient may be an incoming freshman, upperclassman, community college transfer or a non traditional student. Grade point average and class standing are not a deciding factor. This scholarship is given in the spirit of attracting a student of Hispanic origin to Hope College who might not otherwise have the opportunity.

Ethel Leestma '33 Swets Organ Scholarship Fund
A fund established by family and friends in honor of Ethel Swets who was the first organ major under Dr. Curtis Snow on the Skinner Opus 732 organ in Dimnent Chapel in 1929. This scholarship is to celebrate Ethel's joy and great talent in playing classical and church music, and her commitment of service to Christ. Her emphasis was on the importance of technique, and playing with "heart". This scholarship is to be given to a deserving organ major.

Etheridge Family Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Ted '72 and Barbara Bonzelaar '73 Etheridge for deserving students who exhibit leadership, involvement and organizational skills in one or more student organizations especially the campus Greek system.

Eugene F. and Theresa Mooi Damstra Memorial Scholarship
A fund for deserving students, originally established by Dr. Eugene F. Damstra in memory of his wife, Theresa Mooi Damstra, and added to through Dr. Damstra's estate.

Eva Leenhouts Pelgrim Meyer Lecture Fund
An endowed lectureship established by Pamela White Hadas in honor of her grandmother, Eve Leenhouts Pelgrim Meyer '17, who served for a number of years on the Hope College Board of Trustees. The income from this fund is used to annually bring a distinguished artist to the campus for a public event. Normally this event is sponsored by the Women's Week Committee and features a woman artist or scholar of the arts who speaks about her work and, in the case of a writer, reads from her works.

Evelyn M. Hinkamp Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide financial assistance to deserving students with financial need, who are pursuing a career in teaching. First preference will be given to those considering elementary education. Given by Evelyn M. Hinkamp '32.

Evelyn Spallinger Campbell Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Kermit and Sallie Campbell in memory of his mother. It provides assistance to deserving students, with preference given to students pursuing studies in both the natural sciences and the arts or humanities, in preparation for leadership in a complex, technological age.

Evert Family Vienna Summer School Scholarship
A scholarship fund established by Janice Evert, Marty (Spaan) Evert, and Lance Evert on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Vienna Summer School program and in honor and memory of Paul Fried. Awarding preference will be given to juniors or seniors from Michigan or Florida with a 3.0 or higher G.P.A. who are affliated with the RCA.

Faculty Staff Minority Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund for minority students with financial need. This scholarship was established by gifts from the faculty and staff of Hope College.

Faith and Mark Micho '87 Scholarship Fund
A fund established to provided financial assistance to deserving students interested in a career in business. This fund was established to honor Mark's mother, Eileen L. Micho. Preference will be given to a FOCUS student pursuing a career in business. Class standing and grade point average will not be a deciding factor, but recipients must be motivated and show leadership and strong academic performance.

Farwell Scholarship Fund
A scholarship for deserving students with financial need. Awarding preference will be given to FOCUS students from Illinois who work during the summer to help pay for their college education.

A fund established in memory of Floyd Vander Meer by his wife, Jane Vander Meer '25. Funds generated by this scholarship are awarded to deserving students.

Ford Motor Company Scholarship Fund
A fund created to assist, on a perpetual basis, scholarships for students with financial need. Preference will given to minorities (American Indian, Asian/Pacific Islander, Black, Hispanic) and females and Ford Motor Company employees, their spouses and children.

Frances H. Van Zandt Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide a scholarship for a worthy student preparing for the Christian ministry.

Frank N. Patterson Biology Fund
Established in memory of Frank N. Patterson, Professor of Biological Sciences at Hope from 1909-1926. The income from this fund is to be used for furthering the college's biology program. Given by T. Elliot and Katherine Weier in recognition of an imaginative and inspiring teacher.

Frank and Dorothy Sherburne Mathematics Summer Research Fund
This fund is established to provide support for summer collaborative student and faculty research in mathematics with preference given to projects in applied mathematics or mathematics education. This fund was established by Dorothy Sherburne, in honor of her husband Frank Sherburne, who taught mathematics at Hope for thirty-five and a half years before retiring in 1994.

Geneva (Admissions) Scholarship Fund
A fund established to promote international understanding and world peace. Part of the Hope-Geneva Bookstore income is used to provide scholarships to college students from countries outside the U.S.A. who show promise of becoming leaders in the application of the principles of the Christian religion in this area of human relations.

Geneva Kleinheksel Baldwin Scholarship Fund
The Geneva Kleinheksel '17 Baldwin Scholarship Fund was established in 2003 by Marcia Baldwin '60 De Jong to honor the memory of her mother. The recipient will be determined by the Hope College Music Department.

A fund established by Dr. Rodger Kobes '63, Albert '66 and Darlene Kobes '67 Oosterhof, in honor of their parents. The scholarship provides assistance for students pursuing a career in medicine, with preference given to those interested in medical missions or rural medicine.

J. Robert and Morrell F. Swart Scholarship Fund
A fund for deserving students with financial need. First preference given to students preparing for Christian ministry in the Reformed Church of America, preferably, but not necessarily, with a foreign mission career in mind.

Jack C. and Carole F. Mouw '70 Bradford Endowed Scholarship Fund
A fund for deserving, incoming students with financial need. First preference will be given to students who follow their passion of living out their faith through volunteerism in the Holland community and beyond. "Blessed to be a blessing" gives true meaning to life and can help make a difference in the lives of others. This scholarship reflects the donors' heart for serving and sharing Christ as His ambassadors.

Jack H. '53 and Ruth B. '54 Hascup Scholarship Fund
A scholarship established by the Reverend Jack H. Hascup '53 to honor the memory of his wife, Ruth. This fund will provide assistance to needy students, of at least sophomore standing, who are pursuing careers in education.

Jack Ridl Visiting Writers Series Endowment
The Jack Ridl Fund for Creative Writing honors the brilliant and pioneering career of Jack Ridl and his life-broadening influence on students. Through the Fund, the Visiting Writer Series will be renamed in his honor to "The Jack Ridl Visiting Writers Series of Hope College."

Jacob E. Nyenhuis Scholarship Fund
A fund to support deserving students with financial need and pursuing an academic program in Classical Studies or Ancient Civilizations. First preference will be given to juniors or seniors with a declared major or minor in these areas. Established by Ruth Todd, Professor Emerita of Classics, in honor of her longtime friend and mentor, Jacob E. "Jack" Nyenhuis. Dr. Todd served Hope as Professor of Classics in 1977-1978 and 1979-1986. Dr. Nyenhuis has served Hope College as Professor of Classics since 1975 and Dean of Arts and Humanities from 1975-1984, and as Provost since 1984.

Jacob E. and Leona M. Nyenhuis Diversity Scholarship Fund
A fund established by friends and colleagues to honor Dr. Jacob (Jack) and Leona Nyenhuis on the occasion of Dr. Nyenhuis' retirement from Hope College. This scholarship will be awarded to deserving students with demonstrated financial need who will increase the diversity at Hope College, create greater understanding and appreciation of our differences, reduce tensions in the world, and enhance the experience of all students at Hope College. Factors that may be considered in awarding of the this scholarship include, but are not limited to, ethnicity, race, religion, citizenship, region where the student lives, life experiences, nationality, high school, culture, etc., with preference given to students of African or Hispanic/Latino descent.

In honor of James McCall, this fund was created to celebrate Jim's open heart and open home both of which welcomed over 50 international students, friends and leaders during his life.

A scholarship awarded to an upper class student in the sciences with financial need who has demonstrated academic excellence, creativity, and initiative.

James Balk Family Scholarship
Established by the James and Shirley Balk Foundation of Rockford, Michigan, to provide scholarships to first-year students, renewable for three additional years of study at Hope College. Preference is given to students residing in Kent County, Michigan, and majoring in business administration and/or economics.

James C. Toothaker Memorial Scholarship Fund
A fund to benefit students in need of financial assistance with preference given to students pursuing careers in elementary education. Established by Marjorie Toothaker in memory of her husband, Dr. James C. Toothaker.

James G. and Bertha Van Keulen Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide assistance to deserving students pursuing a career in medicine. Preference is given to those students desiring to enter the medical missionary field. Given by Mrs. Bertha Van Keulen, former Holland resident and friend of the college.

James H. and Marion Klassen Zwemer Chemistry Fund
Established by Mr. and Mrs. James H. Zwemer to provide support for research equipment, faculty and student research, or similar activities that will enhance the work of the Chemistry Department.

James M. VerMeulen and Anne VerMeulen Ward Scholarship
A fund established by the family and friends of James M. Ver Meulen and his daughter Anne Ver Meulen Ward, to provide scholarship assistance to deserving and gifted students. Dr. Ver Meulen was a member of the Board of Trustees of Hope College and headed the Build Hope Campaign from 1971-1976. Anne Ward was a loyal alumna and a member of the Alumni Board.

James T. Veneklasen Scholarship Fund
This scholarship is awarded annually to a student who demonstrates excellence in Christian leadership. This endowed fund was established in 1974 by Mrs. Ann S. Veneklasen in loving memory of her husband, James T. Veneklasen.

James W. and Jeanette Neckers Lectureship/Research Fund in Chemistry
Established by Dr. James W. '23 and Jeannette Hoffman '23 Neckers to fund annual lectureships in chemistry. It is the Neckers' hope that bringing outstanding chemists to the campus will enhance the reputation of the college and increase the knowledge and enthusiasm of the faculty and students. Dr. Neckers was Chairman of the Department of Chemistry at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale for 37 of his 40 years at the university. Under his leadership, the department grew from a three-year offering of chemistry to one leading to the Ph.D., and a senior faculty that grew from three to twenty-three.

James and Barbara Neevel Scholarship Fund
A scholarship established by New Hackensack Reformed Church in Wappingers Falls, New York, in appreciation of James and Barbara Neevel's 20 years of ministry. Jantina W. Holleman Early Childhood Education Music Fund
This fund was established to support Hope College students who are pursuing careers in Early/Elementary Music Education by providing funds to bring clinicians in the field of Early Music Education to campus to perform master class sessions and/or to help differ the costs for Music Education students to travel to conferences pertaining to the field of Music Education. The allocations of funds should be determined by the current Professor of Early Childhood Music Education at their discretion within the spirit of the gift.

Jean Palmer Music Award
A fund to provide piano awards in the Music Department to students who are deserving on the basis of talent, achievement and financial need. Funded by friends in loving memory of Jean A. Palmer, a friend of the Music Department.

Jeane W. Walvoord Family Scholarship Fund
A scholarship established by the Walvoord family for deserving students with financial need. Awarding preference will be given to committed Christian students preparing for missionary endeavors emphasizing medical, education and evangelistic efforts. Secondary preference will be given to international students for their studies or missionary work who are experiencing emergency financial need.

Jeannette Aggen Beukema Scholarship
Established by Henry J. Beukema '50 as a memorial to his late wife, Jeanette Aggen Beukema, whose engaging personality, deep commitment to her Lord, and outstanding organizational ability was a great asset in his Navy Chaplaincy. The fund is for financial aid to students preparing for the Christian ministry, preference is given to students from the Chicago Classis.

Jeannette Gustafson Memorial Award
An award to the most deserving graduating student of the Social Work Major, chosen on the following basis: ability to demonstrate academic achievement, voluntary involvement in organizations aimed at aiding the community and/or the college, and promise for significant contribution to the helping professions.

Jim worked in higher education administration for more than 30 years, including 25 years as the chief academic officer at Hope and other institutions.

A scholarship for United States citizens with financial need. First preference will be given to students who graduated in the top ten percent of their high school graduation class and who are planning on a major in engineering, business, or pre-medicine. Additional consideration is given to applicants who have successfully completed military service.

Established by Terry and Ginger South, both graduates of the Class of '76, this fund is in honor of Joe MacDoniels, longtime mentor and inspirer to Terry. This fund awards scholarships to deserving students with encouragement to Hope students and all recipients to be encouragers of others, set a vision and lead through love and trust in others.

Joyce M. Morrison Voice Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund the earnings from which shall be used annually to provide a scholarship for the sophomore year of the most promising sophomore vocalist who, after completing his or her freshman year, has expressed an intention to pursue a career in classical voice. The recipient of such scholarship shall be determined annually by the chairperson of the Voice Division of Music of Hope College.

Justin Bailey '10 Memorial Scholarship Fund
A scholarship for male students with financial need. Preference will be given to students studying business who show an interest in fitness and competitive sports. This scholarship was established by friends and family of Justin who was killed by a drunk driver in 2011.

A scholarship fund for deserving students with financial need who are motivated to show leadership and strong performance in their chosen field. Grade point and class standing are not deciding factors. First preference will be given to a FOCUS student or similar student pursuing a career in business or economics.

Ken Quist Memorial Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide scholarship aid for worthy students, with first preference given to a member of Ken's fraternity, the Cosmopolitan Fraternity.

Ken and Jean Assink Scholarship
A fund established by Ken and Jean Assink, founders of JR Automation Technologies, to provide scholarship assistance to students with financial need pursuing careers in engineering.

Kenneth R. Tysse '36 Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Cornelia Tysse '36 Hartough and Lois T. Tysse '38 Strom in memory of their brother, Ken, to provide assistance to deserving students with demonstrated financial need.

Kevin '78 and Jane Buter '80 Clark Scholarship Fund
A fund established to provide assistance to a student with demonstrated academic merit; preference will be given to a Junior or Senior who has a demonstrated commitment to the Christian faith and is currently involved with the ministry of Young Life and leadership in other co-curricular activities on Hope's campus. This award will be determined by the leadership of the CrossRoads project/Center for Ministry Studies.

Koelbel Fund for Students from Mexico
Distributions from this fund will be used exclusively for support of students from Mexico enrolled in course credit at Hope College. These studies may be for an academic year, a semester, or a May, June or Summer term. The Offices of International Education and Development and Alumni Engagement will communicate with John and Norie Koelbel regarding fund distributions and student designations. The fund will be assigned a unique account number, which will be used to record all pledges, gifts and disbursements. An annual accounting will be made by the Office of Development and Alumni Engagement. If no student from Mexico qualifies in a particular fiscal year, undistributed funds will be carried over to the next year.

Kortering Scholarship Fund
A scholarship established by Vernon and Lois Griffes Kortering for juniors or seniors with financial need, with preference given to students planning to pursue graduate work in law or music.

Krysten Bush '80 Hartman Memorial Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide assistance, based on financial need, to students pursuing a degree in education, a field in which Krys spent seven years of her life teaching our youth. Established by family and friends to honor her lifelong dedication to her faith, family and the institution she loved.

L. Roger Patterson Fund for Library Resources
A fund for the use of the library.

L.T. Guess Physics Research Fund
A physics research fund established by L.T. Guess in appreciation for his granddaughter's education and summer research experience in physics at Hope College. L.T. obtained minors in physics and mathematics from Purdue University. The fund provides support for research by a student during the summer or the academic year. The student is to be a declared physics major with a minimum GPA of 3.5.

Lakewood Construction Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Lakewood Construction Company of Holland, Michigan, to provide assistance for deserving students interested in careers in engineering.

Lamar Construction Scholarship Fund
A scholarship funded by the Lamar Construction Company of Holland, Michigan, to assist deserving students with financial need.

Lamont and Ruth Dirkse Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Lamont and Ruth DeGraaf Dirkse and their family to provide scholarship aid to a sophomore or junior student recommended by the Education Department who is pursuing a career in teaching at the elementary or secondary level. Dr. Dirkse served as a professor in the Education Department and as Dean of Students. He and his wife, also a teacher, enjoyed all facets of Hope College life.

A fund to provide resources to the athletic department.

Larry Beckmann, Jr. Scholarship Fund
Established by Maxine Beckmann Herpolsheimer, and Marilyn and Terry Henderson in memory of their son and brother, Larry Beckmann, Jr. The scholarship provides assistance to deserving students, with preference given to those pursuing careers in ministry or Christian Service.

Larry and Christine Kieft Department of Business and Economics Fund
A scholarship fund created by Larry and Christine Kieft to provide financial assistance to deserving students. Further, a recipient student shall intend to pursue a career in business or finance upon graduation from Hope College. The recipient of this scholarship will be chosen by the Department of Business and Economics chairperson or any dean of a Hope College business school, a citizen of the United States, and enrolled full-time in the Business and Economics program. Further, part of the assessment of the candidate would include the student’s commitment to the Reformed Church in America and Christian ethics. If there are multiple students eligible and each is found to be equal in ability and need, preference will be given to the student who possesses a strong work ethic, an entrepreneurial spirit, and qualities to indicate great potential and success in business, in the opinion of the Business and Economics chairperson or any dean at a Hope College business school. If there is no current student that qualifies, then the endowment draw shall be available to the chairperson of Business and Economics Department or any dean of a Hope College business school to add scholarship funds to a prospective student that is substantially qualified under the above parameters. If there also is no prospective student so identified, then the funds may be utilized by the chairperson of Business and Economics Department for the benefit of an entrepreneurial student to acquire a paid internship. If in any year funds are not expended as provided above, any funds that would have been spent shall remain in the fund.

Larry and Karen Mulder Non-Traditional Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Larry and Karen Mulder to provide scholarship assistance to non-traditional students demonstrating financial need. Preference is given to displaced homemakers/single parents over 23 years of age or those students who have had a lapse of at least two years between enrollment in high school and a post-secondary institution.

Larry and Ruth Custer Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Larry and Ruth Custer family to provide financial assistance to a deserving student. The scholarship shall be awarded to a distinguished student majoring in Special Education. The scholarship is a two year award and shall be awarded during a student's junior year.

Larry ’65 and Linda Kieft Endowed Landscape Fund
The Larry ’65 and Linda Kieft Endowed Landscape Fund was established by Larry Kieft, Hope College Class of 1965, and Linda Kieft for the purpose of developing and enhancing the landscape and grounds of Hope’c campus. The Kieft Fund is an endowed fund the income from which will be used for landscape development and enhancement on campus. Expenditures from the draw from this fund shall be for proejcts which are not part of the regular budgetary process, policy, or capital project(s). Each year, under the direction of the Director of the Physical Plant, landscape enhancements will be added to the campus. An annual report of action will be send to the donors as of December 31 of each year. Materials permitted to be used: Only live plant materials and natural stone may be used. See attached listing of recommended plants or plant categories which may be used and exceptions which are not to be used from this fund.

Lars Granberg Psychology Student Research Fund
A fund created by Darell '63 and Mary Schregardus in recognition and honor of one of Dr. Schregardus' former professors, Dr. Lars Granberg, a gifted teacher and mentor to him and generations of Hope students. The fund provides an award to one or more psychology students to attend a conference at which his or her research is presented, or provides a stipend for collaborative research. The award recipients are determined by the faculty of the Department of Psychology.

Laura Alice Boyd Memorial Award in German
A cash award to the senior German major whose interest and achievement in the German language and literature have been most significant.

Scholarships will be awarded annually to deserving students who demonstrate financial need.

A scholarship for deserving students with financial need. First preference will be given to students planning on a career in ministry or mission work. This scholarship is given regardless of grade point.

Lawrence J. Green Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established by the family and friends of Lawrence (Doc) Green, longtime Hope professor, coach and trainer, to provide financial aid for deserving students interested in pursuing a career in sports medicine, physical therapy and other health related fields pertaining to physical education.

A fund to be used for deserving students majoring in science.

Leadership 201 Scholarship Fund
A fund for deserving students with financial need and who authentically exhibit servant leadership dispositions including but not limited to an ability to faithfully unify, shape and serve those around them. This fund was established and is, in part, sustained by the ongoing efforts of the Center for Faithful Leadership, specifically students and alumni of LDRS 201.

A fund established by Loraine Pomp Widman to provide scholarship assistance to deserving students with financial need. Preference will be given to a student from Midland, Michigan.

A fund for deserving students, with a preference given to those students sincerely dedicated to the teaching of literature and usage of the English language.

Linda Palmer Memorial Award in French
A cash award in the memory of Dr. Linda D. Palmer, Assistant Professor of French, 1966-1971, to the student who, having studied in a French-speaking country, demonstrates the greatest promise of excellence in the professional use of French.

Linn Gann Non-Traditional Scholarship Fund

M. Harold Mikle Prize in Communications
Awarded annually to the graduating senior whose record reflects academic excellence, superior skill as a presentational speaker and extensive all-college leadership accomplishments. This award is intended for but not limited to students who have majored in communication or who have participated in campus or intercollegiate communication activities. Nominations will be sought from all full-time members of the faculty, the winner being selected by the faculty of the Department of Communication.

Mabel Nienhuis Music Award
An award given to three music majors, who at the close of their freshman year receive the highest rating in their jury examinations. One award each will be given in the areas of keyboard, voice and instrumental music

A fund established through the estate of Mabelle DuMez '26 Frei to provide assistance to deserving students with financial need.

Macatawa Bank Scholarship Fund
A fund established to provide scholarships to deserving students with financial need. Preference will be given to minority students from West Michigan who are preparing for a career in business.

Major Richard Gene Elzinga '64 Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established through the estate of LaMila Jean Brink '34 Elzinga and Richard Gene Elzinga '30 in memory of their son, Major Richard Gene Elzinga, to provide assistance to deserving students.

Margaret Baron Hartgerink Nursing Scholarship Fund
An endowed scholarship established by Elmer and Margaret Hartgerink. Margaret received her RN from Butterworth Hospital in 1938 and worked both at Zeeland Hospital and Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. First preference will be given to women and men with financial need pursuing the BSN degree.

Margaret Feldmann Kruizenga Scholarship Fund
An endowed scholarship fund established in honor of Margaret Feldmann Kruizenga, class of 1952. Scholarships from this fund support deserving junior and senior students majoring in theater or art who show promise for careers in these areas. The scholarships will be awarded annually by the office of financial aid in consultation with the chairs of each department.

Margaret Marie Knooihuizen Fund
A fund established to provide resources for maintenance of the Hope College campus, with preference to special projects improving the campus landscape. Given by Delbert '42 and Emilia Moncada '43 Knooihuizen, in memory of their daughter, Margaret Marie Knooihuizen '72.

Margaret Nagy '42 Osterhaven Scholarship Fund
Established by Dr. M. Eugene Osterhaven in honor of his wife, this fund provides aid to deserving Christian students with preference given to those of Hungarian background.

Margaret Vander Velde Scholarship Fund
A scholarship established by Margaret DenHerder van der Velde for an entering keyboard student and selected by the College Organist/Organ Professor of the Department of Music. This scholarship is renewable up to eight semesters and may be offered in addition to the Distinguished Artist Award and/or other awards and/or scholarships.

A financial resource administered by the Education Department and used for development of personnel and programs in the field of special education.

Marguerite Meyer Prins Scholarship Fund
A scholarship established by the Board of Trustees to honor and recognize Marguerite Meyer Prins, member of the Hope College faculty from 1931-1958, who served with distinction as professor of French and Spanish. The scholarship will be awarded to deserving students with financial need who have indicated an interest in studying the French language.

Marion Nyboer Scholarship Fund
A fund established in honor of Marion Nyboer by her husband, Dr. Andrew G. Nyboer '39. This will provide scholarship aid to a deserving, needy female student planning to be involved in Christian service and nursing.

Marjorie Den Uyl Faculty Development Fund
An annual award to a member of the music faculty to enable this person to enrich his/her performance and/or teaching ability. Any faculty member within the Department of Music who has taught at Hope College for a minimum of two years is eligible to apply for this grant. This final selection will be made by the Provost after appropriate consultation with the Chairperson of the Department of Music and the Faculty Status Committee.

Mark Van Lare Memorial Scholarship Fund
Given in memory of their son who died of cancer at age 16, by Donald and Lois Van Lare '57, to honor his faith, courage, intelligence, curiosity, sense of humor and concern for others. Preference will be given to students interested in a career of service to others.

Marsilje Presidential Discretionary Fund
A fund established to provide resources for the Office of the President, for any purpose deemed appropriate by the President with the consent of the Chairman Of the Board of Trustees. The fund was established by Edward '64 and Diana Hellenga '64 Marsilje.

Marsilje Services Scholarship Fund
A fund established by MTA Travel, Inc. and Marsilje Insurance Agency, Inc. to provide scholarship assistance to international Hope students and/or Hope students studying abroad. The funds will be given to those deserving students who are planning to major, or are majoring, in business administration or economics.

Martha Barkema Voice Scholarship Fund
A fund for deserving students, with preference given to those students studying voice.

Martha Tucker '63 Bultman Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Hope's Board of Trustees to honor Martha (Martie) Tucker Bultman, Hope Class of 1963, for her extraordinary efforts to promote and support the college. Scholarships will be awarded to two senior students majoring in special education as recommended by the department faculty, with preference given to those who have served in Holland's Special Education Ministry Program.

Marti Beckering Scholarship Fund
A fund established by the parents, family and friends of Marti Beckering, an outstanding student and athlete at Hope who lost her life in an accident at the beginning of her sophomore year. Income from this fund provides financial assistance to an academically gifted female student with financial need.

A cash award to the junior or senior whose interest and achievement in the Spanish language and literature has been most significant.

Martin and Martha Hoeksema Scholarship Fund
A fund established by family and friends in memory of The Reverend and Mrs. Martin Hoeksema in recognition of their many years of service as Reformed Church pastor and wife. Preference is given to students with financial need from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, or Kentucky who have an interest in history or Christian service.

Marvin and Jerene DeWitt Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide financial assistance to deserving students with financial need who are also members of the Reformed Church in America. First preference will be given to students from Ottawa Reformed Church. Established by Thomas and Marilyn DeWitt '63 Norman, Michael '91 and Laura Norman, and Dale '91 and Julie Norman '93 Grimes in honor of their parents and grandparents.

Mary Bussing Scholarship Fund
A fund from the estate of Miss Mary Bussing to provide scholarship aid for students of ability, leadership and educational purpose.

Mary Emily Mouw '72 Endowed Scholarship Fund
A fund to assist Christian students preparing to teach English/Language Arts in a secondary school.

Mary Jayne Gold Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide financial aid to deserving students, with preference given to those studying theater or French.

Mary Lou Ziegler-Gysbers Scholarship Fund
A scholarship for deserving students with financial need. First preference will be given to elementary education majors who plan to teach at the elementary level. The fund was established in honor of Mary Lou Ziegler-Gysbers '54 by her husband Norman C. Gysbers '54 and their children.

Mary Vlieger '75 DeYoung Scholarship Fund
A fund for deserving students with financial need with preference given to female education students with a major or minor in mathematics. The fund was established in honor and memory of Hope College Professor Mary DeYoung; a lover of Mathematics, education and students.

Matthew J. and Anne C. Wilson Foundation Faculty Development Fund
The Matthew J. and Anne C. Wilson Foundation Trust Fund has provided a number of gifts held as an endowment, the interest from which is used for faculty development and advanced study. The mainstay of the fund is to encourage full-time members of the faculty to grow as scholarly teachers through summer study and research. A special committee of faculty and administration determines award recipients annually from applications submitted by the faculty.

Matthew James Vanderwel Memorial Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide assistance to worthy students, with preference given to students demonstrating leadership ability and promise of service to others. This scholarship was established by David '67 and Marcy Vanderwel in memory of their son.

Maurice C. '45 and Virginia C. Hemmes '48 Laug Scholarship
A fund for deserving students from New York with financial need. First preference will be given to the students from upstate New York and specifically: Montgomery, Fulton, and Schoharie counties. This fund was created through the generosity of the Arkell Hall Foundation.

Maurice Kawashima Endowed Student Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Dr. Maurice Kawashima for deserving students with financial need. There will be two recipients each year, and this scholarship is renewable. First preference will be given to a student from Japan and a student from the United States. If no student from Japan is eligible, this scholarship will go to two students from the United States.

Maxine DeBruyn Endowment for Dance
The Maxine DeBruyn Endowment for Dance at Hope College is intended to recognize and celebrate Maxine DeBruyn's outstanding career and contributions to the field of dance and the department of dance at Hope College. Specifically, this endowment will provide support for: Educational outreach efforts in the form of educational dance presentations for children in grades Kindergarten through grade 12. Specialized support for the training of fencers. The incorporation of dance in the training of athletes at Hope College. Monies from this endowment are to be administered at the discretion of the Chair of the Dance Department.

McBride Family Scholarship Fund
A fund established in memory of Lester McBride '37, by his wife, Barbara McBride, to provide scholarship assistance to junior or senior level students majoring in business administration or economics.

Meijer Endow. for the Joint Archives/Hank Meijer Lect. Serie
The Meijer Lecture Series is an endowed lectureship established in 2008 by the Meijer Foundation. In conjunction with the Joint Archives of Holland at Hope College, this lectureship brings a noted historian to Hope College annually to deliver a free lecture to both the Holland and Hope College communities. The annual lecture is coordinated by the Joint Archives of Holland and highlights the experience of area family owned businesses that have had a historical impact on West Michigan. Please note this fund is both to underwrite a position and sponsor a lecture.

Melvin and Marion Lubbers Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide assistance to deserving students who are enrolled full time and are affiliated with Rosewood Reformed Church in Jenison, Michigan. Established by the congregation in 2008 in appreciation of Mel and Marion Lubbers.

Mephibosheth Scholarship
A fund established through the generosity of Mr. Peter DeKorte to provide financial assistance to physically disabled students. Mr. DeKorte was disabled and chose to name the scholarship for Mephibosheth, a lame boy of the Old Testament, since, "he too had dined at the King's table."

Merle and Arnola Prins Family Scholarship Fund
The endowment from this program will be used to award a scholarship to a student who has been identified by Hope College as a Presidential Scholar or higher with preference given to graduates of Holland Christian High School.

Mervau-Wernette-Wilson Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide assistance to deserving students with financial need. First preference will be given to students enrolled in a program in Kinesiology, with an emphasis on Athletic Training. Established with appreciation for and in honor of Katherine Mervau, Delores Wernette, and Mary Wilson, serving as assistants in the Office of the President during Dr. James E. Bultman's tenure. Made possible through the generosity of Jim and Martie Bultman and the National Collegiate Athletic Association, and in recognition of President Bultman's leadership role within the NCAA and his love of collegiate sport at the Division III level.

Metta J. Ross History Prize
A cash award to the junior student whose interest, achievement, and promise in history, as indicated by academic record and career plans, in the judgment of the history faculty, most merits recognition.

Michael B. Petrovich Scholarship Fund
The Michael B. Petrovich Memorial Scholarship is paid annually from an endowed fund created by friends, colleagues, and students of the late member of the Department of History. Its purpose is to aid students who plan a semester or year of studying abroad. The recipient will be chosen according to the following criteria: academic achievement, financial need and place of study and travel. As the fund was created to foster study in Yugoslavia, first preference will be given to the student proposing to spend all or part of the study period in the former Yugoslavia; second preference will be given to the student proposing to spend all or part of the study period in the former Eastern Europe including Russia or states formerly a part of the Soviet Union; third preference will be given to the student proposing to spend all or part of the study period elsewhere in Western Europe. Interested students should obtain application forms from either the Department of History, which administers the scholarship with the participation of Ms. Vesna Crnjanski-Petrovich, or from the Paul G. Fried International Center.

Mildred Potter Joldersma Memorial Scholarship Fund
A fund established in honor of Mildred Potter Joldersma, by her husband, Alfred T. Joldersma '40, and their children. The fund provides scholarship assistance to deserving students with financial need.

Miller Family Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund to provide scholarships to students with financial need, with preference given to students planning to enter the field of business or education. Given by the children of Jack '54 and Betty '53 Miller.

Milton and Elizabeth Harmelink Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Dr. Philip J. Harmelink, Hope Class of 1966, to aid worthy students, particularly those from the Reformed Church of America. A preference for those preparing for a career in the field of education or Christian Service.

Miner Stegenga Award
An award in memory of the Reverend Miner Stegenga presented annually to a student-athlete in the junior or senior class who, in the estimation of the athletic staff and Faculty Committee on Athletics, has shown leadership in campus Christian activity. The student is one who demonstrated athletic ability in a college-sponsored sport and exemplified Miner Stegenga's deep love of sports and his deeper love and Christian concern for those who played on both sides.

This scholarship has been provided in memory of Belinda Missad. She was an amazing woman who believed in God, and whose strength, perseverance, and love made her the true leader of the family. The scholarship provides assistance to deserving students with financial need.

Morehouse-Duesing Music Scholarship Fund
A fund for deserving students with financial need. First preference will be given to students participating in the music program. Given by Charlotte M. Duesing '31 and her husband, Howard, in memory of her father, Harry C. Morehouse, a Reformed Church minister for many years.

Mr. and Mrs. Christian Becker Faculty Development Fund
This fund is named in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Becker. This fund is awarded by the college to a person who has attained distinction as a scholar and teacher within the field of economic discipline. Given by Mr. and Mrs. Becker's children.

Mr. and Mrs. John Aggen Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide financial assistance for deserving students, with preference to those pursuing careers in music or the ministry. Established through the estates of Mr. and Mrs. John Aggen, Reformed Church members supporting the work of the college.

Myron '51 and Mae Van Ark Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund established for students with financial need for graduates of Holland Public Schools. This scholarship was established in honor of Mike's thirty-five years and Mae's nine years with the Holland Public Schools.

Myron and Alicia Van Zoeren Hermance Scholarship Fund
Established by the family and friends of Myron and Alicia Van Zoeren Hermance in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary. Preference will be given to students with financial need from upstate New York.

Myrtie and Ethelyn Paine Memorial Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Mr. Clifford E. Paine as a memorial to Myrtle Paine and Ethelyn Paine. This scholarship at Hope College is awarded to a graduating senior from Fennville High School and will be awarded for one academic year and is not renewable. Mr. Paine, a native of Fennville, attended Hope College from 1906-1907 and graduated from the University of Michigan College of Engineering. He was a nationally recognized authority on bridge design and one of the chief designers of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Naomi Smith Harris and Philip J. Harmelink Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Dr. Philip J. Harmelink '66 to aid worthy students. Preference given to those students preparing for careers in education with an emphasis on history, music, or foreign languages.

Neil F. DeBoer '66 Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Ken and Jean Assink, and J.C. Huizenga in honor of Neil DeBoer, partner in DeBoer, Baumann & Co., CPAs in recognition of his leadership in the West Michigan business community and his contributions to Hope's scholastic excellence as a former professor. This scholarship will provide assistance to deserving students who demonstrate an economic need, with preference given to students majoring in accounting.

Nell E. Wichers Nursing Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide scholarship aid to worthy students preparing for the nursing profession.

Nella Meyer Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Professor Nella Meyer, with additional support from her family and friends, to provide financial assistance to students at Hope College, with preference given to students interested in music or French.

Nellie VanEeuwen Miller Scholarship Fund
A fund established by family and friends in memory of Nellie Van Eeuwen Miller '33 to provide financial assistance to deserving students.

Nelson '31 and Lois Dressel '30 Bosman Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Gary and Marguerite Bosman Bowen and their children, Rebecca Bowen '90 Wierda and Amy Bowen, in memory of their parents and grandparents. The scholarship provides assistance to deserving students, with preference given to students majoring in communications, political science, or business administration.

Nicholas Ver Hey '75 Geology Summer Research Fund
A fund to provide financial assistance to deserving Hope College students engaged in summer research in the college's Department of Geology and Environmental Sciences. Established by friends of Nicholas Ver Hey '75 in his memory and with appreciation for his excellent undergraduate experience at Hope College.

Nicole McClain '98 Liechty Memorial Scholarship Fund
A fund for deserving students with financial need. First preference will be given to female students from Michigan with a dream to further their education and make a difference in this world. This scholarship is in remembrance of Nicole McClain Liechty, who lost her life in an auto accident. The scholarship was established by Starnes & Atchison law firm, family, friends, loved ones, and business associates all of whom Nicole influenced or was influenced by during her short time here on earth.

Noordhoff Scholarship Fund
A scholarship for deserving transfer students with financial need. This scholarship is dedicated to transfer students in the pursuit of knowledge at Hope College in the areas of teaching and science.

Nordstrom Family Scholarship Fund
A fund for deserving students with financial need. First preference will be given to students planning careers in education. Given by John and Eileen Mugg ' 56 Nordstrom.

Norman and Mary Ellen Lunderberg Off-Campus Study Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund for deserving students with financial need. This fund may be used for domestic or international off-campus study during academic or summer terms. This fund will be awarded by the Dean of Natural and Applied Sciences in consultation with Financial Aid and given to students studying in these areas.

Norman and Ruth Peale Fund
A fund established by Dr. and Mrs. Norman Peale to support faculty/student research in contemporary religious thought.

Northern Michigan Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide assistance for deserving students from Northern Michigan who demonstrate financial need.

Olin C. Van Lare Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide scholarship aid for worthy students, with first preference given to Holland High School graduates pursuing the study of literature. Funded through the estate of Olin C. Van Lare.

Oliver S. Page Memorial Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Dr. Michael Suleiman and the family and friends of Oliver Page '41, to provide financial support to Hope students attending the GLCA program in Jerusalem. In the event there are no eligible students, funds will be used to support students from the Middle East, or students attending programs in the Middle East, or students with interest in Middle Eastern Affairs. In the event that there are no eligible students in the above categories the fund shall be awarded to a needy student.

Organ Maintenance Endowment Fund
Inspired by the 2007 restoration of the Skinner Organ in Dimnent Memorial Chapel, established by friends of Hope College to provide annual funding for the proper care and upkeep of the college's several organs.

Oscar and Anna Schwidetzky Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide scholarship aid on the basis of need and academic ability. Preference is given to pre-medical students. Established by Mrs. Schwidetzky in memory of her husband.

PNC Bank of Michigan/Illinois Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide financial assistance for deserving students. Preference will be given to students from Ottawa, Kent, Muskegon, Oceana and Mason Counties interested in the fields of business administration or economics.

Palma Family Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund established in loving memory of Fern D. Palma by her friends and family. A member of the Hope Class of 1983, she majored in music and physical education. This scholarship is intended for deserving students with financial need. Preference will be given to students majoring in music or kinesiology.

Parke Davis/Pfizer Diversity Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Parke-Davis and Company, a division of Warner Lambert, to provide scholarship assistance for deserving students. Preference given to students from a Hispanic background.

Patterson Memorial Biology Prize
Established in memory of Frank N. Patterson, Professor of Biological Sciences at Hope from 1909-1926. The income from this fund is to be used for furthering the college's biology program. Given by T. Elliot and Katherine Weier in recognition of an imaginative and inspiring teacher.

Paul '49 & Joan DeYoung '48 Hinkamp II Scholarship Fund
Established by family and friends in memory of Paul E. Hinkamp II to celebrate his life and strong support of Hope College. The fund will give scholarships to students with financial need and strong interest in pursuing a career in Chemistry, Biology or Physics.

Paul B. Kragt '58 for Foreign Language Resource Fund
A fund to provide for the acquisition of library materials for foreign languages. Established by the family of Paul Kragt.

Paul B. Kragt Scholarship Fund
A fund for deserving juniors or seniors who have demonstrated financial need and are majoring in economics or business administration. Preference is given to students involved in a campus leadership capacity. Established by the family of Paul Kragt.

Paul Baeverstad Memorial Scholarship Fund
A scholarship for deserving students with financial need. Preference will be given to members of the Cosmopolitan Fraternity who are planning a career in medicine, the sciences or dentistry.

Paul E. and Martha Hinkamp Memorial Scholarship Fund
A fund given by members of the Hinkamp Family in memory of Paul E. Hinkamp, distinguished professor at Hope College, and his wife, Martha, to provide scholarships for academically gifted students with leadership potential.

Paul Fried International Education Fund
This fund was established in 1968 as The Vienna Fund by persons who had studied in the Vienna Summer School. The purpose of the fund was to further inter-cultural contact and understanding, with special emphasis on making it possible for students from Austria to study at Hope College. In 1981, on the twenty-fifth anniversary of the founding of the Vienna Summer School, the name of the fund was changed to honor Dr. Paul G. Fried, who founded the Vienna Summer School and served with distinction for many years as Hope's first Director of International Education. The purpose of the fund was broadened to include other activities, in addition to the Austrian programs, that further the overall goal of international education and inter-cultural understanding.

Paul G. Fried Prize in International Education
"The problem with provincialism is that it is worldwide." A prize awarded annually to an outstanding Hope College senior to recognize his/her academic and campus commitment to enhancing global awareness in his/her life and that of others at Hope College.

A fund to provide assistance to students whose talent and character mark them for leadership in their chosen fields, as well as in the development of the highest human and Christian values in our society. Paul James Mitsos Vienna Summer School Scholarship Fund
A fund to assist Hope Students with financial need to attend the Vienna Summer School Program. Students eligible for this award are those entering their junior or senior year.

An award in memory of Paul Norman Timmer, a career foreign service officer in the U.S. Department of State and member of the class of 1976, to an outstanding sophomore or junior planning to enter the field of foreign service or international studies.

A fund established by Paul and Margaret Baker to provide assistance to deserving students with financial need.

A fund established to provide resources for advising international students enrolled at Hope.

Paula Ann Lemley Memorial Scholarship Fund
Paula Ann Lemley was an outstanding pre-medical student who lost her life in a tragic accident during the summer before her senior year. This fund was established to provide aid to female fourth-year pre-medical students demonstrating financial need.

People Who Inspire Scholarship Fund
A fund established for students with financial need to assist them in achieving their dreams of a Hope education. Inspiration is the word that best describes the vision of this scholarship. It is intended to honor Hope students, faculty and graduates past, present, and future who are role models, motivators, and leaders whose actions compel others to follow their example. The founder of this scholarship desires that others will be motivated to contribute towards this scholarship so they in their own way may honor an individual who has been an inspiration to them.

Peter Bol Award Fund
An award given to the upperclassman student who, in the estimation of the Personnel Deans and Counseling Staff, has made outstanding contribution in counseling and healing underclass students and who gives promise of a career of service to youth.

Peter C. and Emajean Cook Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund established by Peter and Emajean Cook to provide financial assistance to deserving students interested in business and the free enterprise system.

Peter DeYoung Fund for Cross-Cultural Education - May Term
An endowed fund providing annual resources for deserving students with demonstrated need who are enrolled in a May, June or Summer Term in Cross-Cultural Education. First preference is given to students in the Rosebud Indian Reservation May Term program, and second preference to students enrolled in the Hope Comes to Watts May Term. As a departmental discretionary fund, it will be administered by the Education Department chairperson in consultation with colleagues. Consideration will also be given to inclusive excellence. Established by the late Peter A. DeYoung (Hope 1978) through his estate, in appreciation for the value of preparing young men and women for lives of service in an increasingly diverse society.

Peter DeYoung Fund for Exceptional Students
An endowed- fund providing annual resources for enrichment and support of the Department of Education in its program(s) equipping future teachers in their work with exceptional children. As a departmental discretionary fund, it will be administered by the Education Department chairperson in consultation with colleagues. Resources may be used for student opportunities to attend conferences or other enrichment opportunities not otherwise possible and/or to fund guest speakers or other activities preparing teachers for careers with exceptional children. Established by the late Peter A DeYoung (Hope 1978), through his estate, in admiration for his beloved Professor Susan Cherup and in celebration of his long personal association with her students over 40 years.

Peter and Joyce Harmelink '63 Koop Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund established by Dr. Philip J. Harmelink '66 in honor of his sister Joyce Harmelink Koop and her husband, Peter Koop. The income from this fund is to provide scholarships for students from the Reformed Church in America, with preference for students intending to pursue careers in church music, organ, and/or music education.

A fund established by Dr. Philip J. Harmelink '66 to aid worthy junior and senior class students, with preference for those preparing for careers in the field of education or Christian service.

Phillip Toppen '58 Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established by Mary Harmeling '61 Toppen-Palma in memory of her late husband, Phillip Toppen, to provide assistance to deserving students with preference given to those planning to enter the field of education.

Phillips Brooks Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Brooks Beverage Management in memory of its founder, Mr. Phillips Brooks, to provide annual scholarship assistance to deserving students, with preference given to students majoring in business administration.

Phyllis J. Vandervelde Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Dr. Richard Vandervelde, family and friends in memory of Phyllis J. Vandervelde. The scholarship is awarded to a student entering their senior year who demonstrates financial need, and shows promise of developing character traits that marked Phyllis Vandervelde's own life, including: a self-giving love for other people, a faith and values that guided her life, high standards of integrity, loyalty to those whom she loved, and a capacity for experiencing and spreading joy.

A fund established by Bryan and Ruth Athey in memory of their daughter, Phyllis Jean Athey, to provide assistance to students with financial need, with preference given to those majoring in theatre or religion.

A fund for deserving students with financial need. This fund was named in honor of Phyllis K. Hooyman, Director of Financial Aid from 1984-2012.

A fund established by Mr. and Mrs. Vernon G. '39 Poest to provide financial aid to deserving students majoring in business, with preference to those from Ottawa County.

President's Discretionary Fund
A fund established by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, New York, and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, California.

Pschigoda Chemistry Scholarship Fund
A scholarship established by Loraine M. Pschigoda '59, a chemistry major, to benefit female students who are pursuing majors in chemistry. First preference will be given to those young women with an interest in research chemistry, who have attained at least sophomore status.

Quincy Street Corporation Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Quincy Street Corporation to provide assistance to students showing financial need. Preference given to Quincy Street employees or dependents of company employees.

RCA Minority Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established by the congregations of the Reformed Church in America to provide scholarships to deserving students with financial need with preference given to minorities.

A fund established by Mrs. Esther Rehm Stotz in memory of her husband, Raleigh R. Stotz, to provide scholarship assistance to deserving students.

Scholarship Fund established by Stuart H. Post '60 and his wife, Dee in honor of the efforts of Randy Pacheco to uplift the Hispanic community. Preference given to Hispanic graduates of Holland High School or West Ottawa High School, participants in the Upward Bound program, and students having a demonstrated financial need.

Ray DeYoung History Prize
A cash award to the senior student whose interest, achievement, and promise in history, as indicated by his/her academic record and a significant piece of historical research, most merit the award.

Ray and Sue Smith Scholarship Fund
A scholarship for deserving male students with financial need. This scholarship was established by the student athletes who played football from the years 1970 to 1994 to honor the legacy of their coach. It is to be awarded to a student who demonstrates the potential to live out the values modeled by Coach Smith and his wife Sue. These values are a commitment to the Christian faith, a life of the utmost integrity, and an ongoing passion for the health and wellness of body and spirit.

Rebecca Bosserd Scholarship Fund
This scholarship fund was established in appreciation for Rebecca Bosserd who exhibited true servant leadership for the 2005-2006 Championship Flying Dutch who won the NCAA Division III Title. The scholarship is to be awarded to students with financial need who have show signs of servant leadership and/or volunteerism at any level and may be awarded to a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior.

Redeker Family Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Jerrald H. '56 and Elsie VandeZande '57 Redeker to provide assistance to deserving students, with preference given to non-traditional students who plan to enter the teaching profession.

Reformed Church Women Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Reformed Church Women. A scholarship is awarded annually to a junior or senior woman who is a member of the Reformed Church, who demonstrates excellence in scholarship and is preparing to serve in a church-related vocation.

Reformed Church in Plano Endowed Scholarship
A fund for deserving students from Texas. This scholarship was established by the Classis of Central Iowa and may be utilized in recruiting students from Texas.

Reformed Church of Bronxville Scholarship Fund
A fund for deserving students.

Reimold Faculty Development Fund
An award, given in memory of his mother by Mr. O.J. Reimold II, is awarded to the member of the faculty whose proposal for summer research and writing best offers effective expression of those spiritual and cultural values which motivated the founder of Hope College, Dr. Albertus C. Van Raalte, and which gives promise of resulting in scholarly or literary publication.

Reinking Memorial Award Fund
Awarded each year to a junior geology major who, in the judgment of the geology faculty, best exhibits the high standards of academic excellence exemplified by the late Professor Robert L. Reinking.

Religion Department Award
A fund administered by the Religion Department for the awarding of scholarships, teaching fellowships and Biblical research grants to superior students contemplating church vocations.

Remtema Scholarship Fund
Established by Beatrice Remtema in memory of her husband, Ray, and recognizing a family legacy of Hope graduates, is awarded annually to deserving students, with preference to those considering a career in education.

Renze Hoeksema Prize in Political Science
An award for a junior majoring in political science who best demonstrates, in the judgment of the Department of Political Science, excellence in the classroom, interest in political science, and promise for a useful career in public service.

Reuben and Elizabeth Winter Young Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Reuben Young in memory of his wife, Elizabeth Winter Young, Class of '32, to provide financial aid to deserving students. Preference is given to students from Lee High School in Wyoming, Michigan.

Rev. Elton '48 and Beatrice Soodsma '51 Van Pernis Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Donald '59 and Constance Kregar '61 Scott in honor of the Christian influence of the Rev. Elton and Beatrice Soodsma Van Pernis through their years of service as pastor and friend. This fund is for deserving students who have a demonstrated financial need with preference given to those pursuing careers in Christian ministry or service.

Rev. Henry A. '40 and Emily G. '41 Mouw Endowed Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund to assist students with financial need. First preference will be given to students in their junior year who plan to continue their education in a seminary upon their graduation from Hope College.

A fund for deserving students, given in honor of The Reverend John Stegeman's service to the Covenant Reformed Church of Muskegon Heights.

Reverend Herman A. and Thyrza Harmelink Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide aid for worthy students with preference given to students preparing for service in the Christian ministry or in Christian education. Established by their son, Dr. Philip J. Harmelink '66.

Reverend John A. and Deane Klaaren Memorial Scholarship
A fund to provide scholarship aid to worthy students, with preference given to those pursuing a career in full-time Christian ministry.

Reverend John F. Heemstra (1895) Scholarship
Established in 1997 by Marie '18 and Clarence '19 Heemstra. The scholarship is to be awarded to a Hope College student who is eligible for financial aid, has demonstrated academic achievement and is committed to the Christian faith. First consideration will be give to a senior, followed by a junior, sophomore and then a freshman in that order, with the understanding that the student will be planning to serve in a church related vocation after graduation. If the scholarship is awarded to an underclassman it is understood that the scholarship will continue to be awarded to that student until graduation as long as academic achievement and commitment to the Christian faith is maintained.

Richard '50 and Gloria Welch Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund established through the generosity of students and friends of Richard Welch, honoring a distinguished chemistry teacher at Dearborn High School, Dearborn, Michigan and recipient of the 1973 Hope Distinguished Alumni Award. His teaching produced many outstanding students who have excelled in the fields of chemistry, medicine, pharmacy, physics, dentistry, teaching and related fields. This scholarship provides an award of merit to deserving students planning on a career in sciences or science teaching.

Richard A. and Julia DeWitt Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Mr. Richard A. De Witt in memory of his wife, Julia, to provide scholarship assistance to deserving students. Generous benefactors of the college, Mr. and Mrs. De Witt provided a major gift for the De Witt Student and Cultural Center. Mr. De Witt served on the Board of Trustees from 1970-1976. First consideration will be given to graduates of Holland Christian High School.

Richard Decker Biology Research Student Travel Fund
A fund to provide resources allowing students to attend conferences. Recipients are students engaged in summer research in the Department of Biology. The department chairperson, in consultation with departmental colleagues, will select students eligible to attend appropriate conferences related to their research experiences. This fund provided through the generosity of Dr. Richard H. Decker of Deerfield, Illinois.

Richard H. '52 and Patricia L. Ruch Scholarship Fund
A scholarship to provide aid for students with ability, need and a Christian commitment, with preference given to those pursuing the study of business.

A scholarship for deserving students with financial need who participate in Hope College's music program. Awarding preference will be given to graduates of West Michigan Christian high schools.

A fund established by Dr .Richard W. Telinde to provide scholarship assistance to deserving students.

Richard and Betty Decker Scholarship Fund
A fund established through a grant from Abbott Laboratories in honor of Richard Decker, who was named Researcher of the Year at Abbott in 1988. The scholarship provides assistance to deserving students, with preference given to those majoring in chemistry.

A fund for deserving students with financial need. This scholarship was established by the estate of Robert Donia '39.

Robert '47 and Marguerite Danhof Scholarship Fund

Robert H. and Arvella Schuller Scholarship
A fund established by William R. Biggs, business leader, educator and motivator, and his wife, Ruth Ann, in honor of and tribute to Dr. Robert H. Schuller, distinguished pastor of the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, California, who, with the support of his wife Arvella, has influenced countless thousands of people in a positive way. His appearances each Sunday on the "Hour of Power" television programs reach millions worldwide; his several books have provided continuing positive inspiration over many years. This endowment fund will provide financial assistance to deserving students to receive a Hope College education and go into the world making positive contributions.

A fund established by the Hall family in memory of Robert G. Hall, given to deserving students with financial need who are majoring in science, technology, engineering or math.

Robert Holt Mathematics Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Robert Holt, Class of 1960, to benefit students with need who are majoring in Mathematics.

Robert Holt Music Scholarship Fund
Established by Robert L Holt '60, to provide financial assistance to students who are music majors. First preference will be given to a minority student.

Robert J. Motzer '77 Chemistry Undergraduate Research Fund
A fund to support the research of a chemistry student. This fund is given in honor of Dr. Robert Motzer by Ralph C. Ferrara.

Robert L. Melka Memorial History Award
A cash prize awarded annually to a freshman or sophomore for an essay in European history that is judged superior by the Department of History.

Robert N. '56 and Marcia J. '55 De Young Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established by friends and family in recognition of Bob De Young's thirty-five years of service to Hope College in the areas of Student Development and College Advancement. In recognition of Bob's and Marcia's lifelong commitment to the field of education, preference will be given to students with financial need who are intending to become educators.

Robert and Leona Schellenberg Scholarship Fund
A fund established to provide financial aid to deserving students. Preference is given to graduates of Lee High School in Wyoming, Michigan and then to graduates of other area high schools.

Robert and Virginia Lanting Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Robert and Virginia Lanting to provide scholarships for deserving students with financial need, with preference given to students entering the field of education or missions.

Roger '58 and Wilma Allspach '73 Winkels Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Roger and Wilma Winkels to provide financial assistance to deserving students who have an interest in pursuing secondary math education or majoring in Religion.

Roger L. Mulder '61 and Beverly Mulder Chemistry Fund
A fund established in 2007 by Roger and Beverly Mulder to provide support for the travel expenses of chemistry majors when attending meetings where they will present the results of their research. This fund will enhance the undergraduate research experience by providing opportunities for students to interact with a broad range of professionals in the discipline. The Chairperson of the Chemistry Department will administer the travel awards

Roger Rietberg Chapel Choir Award
This award was created by members, alumni, and friends of the Hope College Choir to honor Roger Rietberg. The recipient must be of the senior class and have been a member of the choir for at least two years. The recipient must exemplify commitment and dedication, a love for the musical mission of the choir, and a spirit that has proved to be an example for the other members. He or she should carry an attitude of concern for all the members of the choir and should be looked at with respect as a leader and a friend.

Rolland Shackson Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established by Miss Marion Shackson in honor of her late brother, who served on the faculty of Hope College form 1935-1939. The fund exists to provide support to an outstanding Hope student, with preference given to those interested in a career in speech communications.

Ronald '60 and Sonja L. Boeve Scholarship Fund
A scholarship established by Ron and Sunny Boeve for a student with demonstrated financial need with preference for a student who participates in string or instrumental music at the college.

Ronald Keith and Donna Mae Granger Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund established to provide financial assistance for deserving students with financial need with preference given to graduating students from Lansing Christian high school.

A fund established by Ron '50 and Elizabeth Boven to provide scholarship assistance to deserving students with financial need.

Ronald and Sandra Cady Mulder International Studies Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund for students majoring in history with financial need who have shown an appreciation for diversity and other cultures. This scholarship will allow students to participate in a summer, semester or year-long program at LCCIU (Klaipeda, Lithuania) or in Eastern Europe or Western Europe. This scholarship was established by Ronald and Sandra Mulder as part of their commitment to Christian higher education in a global context.

Ruiter Family Scholarship Fund
A fund established by John A. '91 and Jennifer L. (Steeby) '91 Ruiter, in memory of their fathers, Gary A. Steeby and Allen L. Ruiter '63. This scholarship is to assist students with demonstrated financial need.

Russ' Restaurant Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Mr. and Mrs. J. Russell Bouws and family to provide annual scholarship assistance to Russ' employees or dependents of company employees. A fund to provide financial aid to deserving students, with preference given to those pursuing a career in education. Given by Victor J. Blekkink.

Ruth Haidt Hughes Memorial Organ Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide annual support for exceptional students in Organ at Hope College. Students are selected on the basis of merit by the Music Department and Professor of Organ. Given in Ruth's memory through the estate of her husband, Robert Hughes.

A fund established by the children of Ruth Hoekstra VanderVen in her memory. Preference is given to juniors or seniors who demonstrate financial need and high achievement in both academic and service activities and who are preparing to become teachers.

A fund to provide scholarship aid for a worthy student. Given by Mr. Homer Surbeck in recognition of the distinguished service to the college by Trustee Ruth Stafford Peale.

Ruth Tensen Creative Writing Fund
Established by Ruth Tensen of Rochester, New York, to fund a creative writing workshop for Hope students interested in writing for children. Ms. Tensen is the author of a series of outstanding books for beginning readers, including Come to See the Clowns, Come to the Farm, Come to the City, Come to the Pet Shop, and Come to the Zoo.

Ruth and John Reed Faculty Achievement Award Fund
This annual award, in memory of Ruth Y. Reed, Class of 1965, is designed to acknowledge the accomplishments of faculty members in any discipline at Hope College. It is the wish, however, of the sponsors of the award that it should be distributed broadly among the disciplines and not concentrated in any one field. The recipients of the award should be determined by a committee selected for that purpose. The award should be given to a faculty member who is first a superior teacher, but who also contributes significantly in some other area of professional life -- as a research scholar, as a guide in student activities (theatre, music, sports, sciences), as an administrator, or as a representative of the college in the community.

STEM Scholars Endowment Fund
A fund established The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation of Midland to enable Hope College to establish a new residential learning community in the sciences focused on helping improve the Macatawa watershed.

Sakiko Kanamori Prize Fund
"The Sakiko Kanamori Prize" is given each year to one or more voice students who are on their way to professional singing careers. It is based on need and may be used only for expenses outside the college. Sakiko always remembered how difficult it was to get started and how important little things were. Examples of expenses that can be supported include a plane ticket to an important audition or sessions with a special vocal coach. To insure that the recipient(s) will contribute to the Hope community after receiving the prize, the Music Department will usually award it to sophomores or juniors, though first semester seniors will also be eligible.

Sally Poppen Marasco Scholarship Fund
A fund for deserving students with financial need. First preference will be given to students interested in a medical profession.

Samuel L. Westerman Foundation Fund
A fund created by the Samuel L. Westerman Foundation, the interest from which provides fellowships to assist selected Hope students to participate in mission trips.

Samuel Zwemer Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund for deserving students with financial need who show a strong interest in cross-cultural mission. First preference will be given to pre-medical and nursing students. Established by David '64 and Alverna'66 DeVisser in 2007.

Sandra E. Rottschafer '93 Memorial Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established by family and friends of Sandi Rottschafer, Hope Class of 1993, to provide scholarship assistance to deserving students who plan to pursue a career in medicine or the health professions.

Sandrene Schutt Award for Proficiency in Literature
A cash award to be presented to the senior who has shown outstanding proficiency in English literature and who expresses the intention of entering the profession of teaching English literature.

Sargent Scholarship Fund
A fund given by Mrs. Phoebe Sargent '37 VanDragt, in part from the estate of Carroll Sargent, with preference given to support students who are interested in pursuing a career in teaching.

Schaap Research Fellows/Schaap Transformative Initiative "Schaap Scholars"
A fund established by A. Paul Schaap to provide unrestricted annual research stipends to chemistry and biochemistry professors.

Schmid Family Scholarship
Established by Dorothea Dodds, in honor of her family members: Lillian, Katrina, Nicholas, Kathryn and Dorothea. This scholarship provides assistance to deserving students.

Scholtens Family Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Dale and Anita Scholtens, parents of three Hope students. The scholarship provides assistance to juniors or seniors with financial need. Preference is given to students with siblings at Hope, or students who have been in attendance more than four years.

Schregardus Family Scholarship Fund
Provides funds for deserving students with financial need, with first preference given to students from Wisconsin. Established by Ralph and Cheryl Schouten '65 Schregardus, in honor of their children, Randy Schregardus '86, Carla Schregardus '90 Wilson, and Andrea Schregardus '92 Votava.

A fund established through the generosity of Scott and Jaclyn Geerlings to provide financial assistance to deserving students.

Scott A. and Kim M. Huizenga Science Education Scholarship
A fund established to aid full-time students enrolled in a Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Geology, Mathematics or Physics program who are not seeking a career in medicine. The recipients must be entering their Junior year and be active members in any of the following Hope College sororities: Sorosis, Delta Phi, Dorian, Sibylline, Alpha Gamma Phi, Kappa Delta Chi, or Delta Sigma Theta; or fraternities: Fraternal, Cosmopolitan, Centurian, Emersonian, Arcadian, or Phi Sigma Kappa. The recipients will be chosen by the Dean for the Natural Sciences and the Natural Science Department Chairs in collaboration with the Financial Aid Office of Hope College.

An award established by Frater Seymour Padnos, class of 1943, to encourage and foster the motto of Fraternal: Friendship, Love and Truth. The recipient will be a junior the next academic year and be selected by a vote from the fraternity. This award may have both a cash component and a physical award component.

Established to provide financial assistance to a Hope College student who is an active member of the Fraternal Society.

A fund established through the estate of Sherman and Mabel Lepard to provide financial assistance to deserving students, with preference given to students pursuing careers in education.

Shier Family Scholarship Fund
A scholarship awarded each year to a student with a diverse background and a desire to advance the diversity of Hope College. This fund was established by David, Suzanne and Sarah '10 Shier.

Shirley Ann Decker Buth Scholarship Fund
Established by Ann Decker in memory of Peter Decker, her husband, and Shirley Ann Decker Buth, their daughter. The income from this fund shall be used to provide scholarships for deserving students with financial need.

Shirley Hill Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide assistance to deserving students with financial need. Recipients are juniors or seniors with a declared major in English. Preference is given to those planning a career in secondary education. Established by Shirley Hill '50.

Simon Den Uyl Faculty Development Fund
The Den Uyl Fellowship is awarded annually to a member of the Hope College faculty who has attained marked distinction in his academic career and who proposes a study of considerable scope promising future benefits to the college. It is named in honor of Dr. Simon D. Den Uyl '19 who initiated the Fellowship in 1958 and who has made possible its establishment as an annual award. The Den Uyl Fellow is selected by a faculty committee and the administration and is the highest award given a Hope teacher by his faculty colleagues.

Sloan-Stegeman Award Fund
A cash award to a senior student who displays promise of greatest success in the field of Christian world missions.

Smallegan Undergraduate Chemistry Research Fund
A fund to support the summer research of a Hope Chemistry student. The fund is given to the glory of God in memory of Dick Edward '15 and Anna Klooster Smallegan, by their children, Marian Smallegan '45, and John '51 and Evelyn '50 Smallegan.

Spaan-Evert Family Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund for deserving students with financial needs. This fund was established by the estate of Milton C. Spaan '36 and increased through the generosity of Lance W. '62 and Marty Spaan '63 Evert. This fund provides assistance to deserving upperclassman in the fields of pre-law, music or education with preference given to members of the Reformed Church of America.

Stanley Harrington Art Award Fund
Awarded to a promising major in the Department of Art, and is intended for the purpose of research materials. The Stanley Harrington Art Prize is established by friends, students, and family in memory of Mr. Harrington, a professor in the Department of Art of Hope College from 1964 to 1968.

Stanley and Harriett van Reken Scholarship Fund
A fund for deserving students with financial need. This scholarship was established by the estate of Stanley van Reken.

Stavenger Family Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Dave and Betsy King Stavenger to provide assistance 1st through 4th year students with financial need. Preference will be given to a student from Midland, Michigan.

Steketee - Tapley Family Scholarship
A fund established by David R. and Sally J. Steketee '65 Tapley in 2006 for deserving students with financial need. It is given in the spirit of providing a Hope education to deserving Christian students.

Stephen I. Hemenway Award for Promising Achievement in English Teaching
An award to benefit students planning to become educators at the middle school, high school or college level with a focus on creative writing and literature majors. ​

Stephenson First Year Writing Prize
This prize, awarded each semester to the author of the paper selected as the best submitted in the first-year writing course, is given to encourage young writers.

Sterk Business Scholarship Fund
A fund for deserving students with financial need. First preference will be for upperclassman who are accounting majors and are not in the CPA 150 Program.

Steve M. Kupres Business Leadership Award Fund
An award established to provide departmental awards to two deserving students, one male and one female, at the conclusion of each academic year. Recipients will have completed their junior year with a minimum gpa of 3.0, and will be selected by consensus of the faculty of the Department of Economics, Management and Accounting (DEMA). Recipients will exemplify core leadership attributes of integrity, commitment, personal development, stewardship and teamwork. Given by Steve M. Kupres '75 in appreciation for his excellent academic experience at Hope College.

A fund established to provide assistance to deserving students with financial need who are interested in pursuing a profession in education or vocal music. First priority will be given to students from high-need urban communities and school systems, student of under served racial background, and international students.

Third Reformed Church Faculty Development Fund
A fund established through the generosity of the Third Reformed Church in Holland. The income is to be used for faculty to continue their scholarly pursuits to further improve the academic excellence of Hope College. Preference is to be given to members of the Religion and Philosophy faculties in making this award.

Thomas Chester Andrews '84 Creative Writing Fund
A fund established by Ray and Alice Roush Andrews in memory of their son, Tom Andrews (1961-2001; Hope Class of 1984), the income from which will be used annually to support a visiting writer at Hope College.

A fund established in memory of Thomas Donia '73, by family and friends to assist the Music Department of Hope College in providing musical programs of quality and distinction.

Thomas F. Staley Lecture Series Fund
The Staley Distinguished Christian Scholar Lecturer Program is a project of the Thomas F. Staley Foundation of New York and Florida, and was established in memory of Dr. and Mrs. Thomas F. Staley and Judge and Mrs. H.H. Gaynes of Bristol, Tennessee. The Thomas F. Staley Foundation believes that the Christian gospel, when proclaimed in its historic fullness, is always contemporary, relevant and meaningful. The foundation encourages intellectual understanding, spiritual conviction and commitment to service in Christ's name. To this end, the foundation seeks to bring to college and university campuses of America distinguished Christian scholars who have comparable viewpoints and who can communicate clearly with the several members of the academic community.

Thomas L. Riechel Endowed Fund for Summer Research in Chemistry
A fund established Thomas and Robin Riechel in 2006. The fund provides a stipend for a summer research student in chemistry.

Timothy J. and Kimberly S. Long Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund for deserving graduates of Holland High School. Awarding preference will be given to students planning a degree in business with a minimum 3.3 GPA and co-curricular involvement. This scholarship is renewable as long as a minimum 3.0 GPA is maintained. If no students planning a degree in business are available second award priority will be given to students pursuing a degree in math and/or the sciences.

Timothy and Maria Fritz Scholarship Fund
An endowed scholarship provided by Dr. and Mrs. Timothy Fritz, with the income designated to provide scholarship assistance to pre-medical students.

Tom and Julie Carey Scholarship Fund
A scholarship for deserving students with financial need and a strong desire to succeed. Preference will be given to students from Kalkaska or Antrium County and if no students qualify it may go to students from the Grand Traverse region.

Towsley Research Scholars Fund
A fund established by the Towsley Foundation to provide financial and moral support for new faculty as they seek to establish a long-term program of research while they master the skills required to be an effective member of a liberal arts faculty.

Van Dis Family Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide assistance to deserving and gifted students with service-oriented goals.

Van Dyke/Rottschafer Scholarship Fund
A fund for deserving students established by Ruth K. Van Dyke Rottschafer in honor of her immigrant parents, John and Ida Van Dyke. This scholarship is to be awarded at the conclusion of the sophomore year to a student entering the nursing program who shows promise of a successful career in the health professions.

Van Zanten Family Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide scholarship resources for Hope College students studying abroad. First preference will be given to students enrolled in a May, June or Summer Term in an international venue. Funds will be administered by the Fried International Center, in consultation with other departments. Given by the family of Arnold and Margaret VanZanten in appreciation of the importance of global study in a Hope College education.

Vandenberg Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide assistance to deserving students with financial need. Given by Fred '53 and Gretchen Yonkman '54 Vandenberg.

Vanderbush-Weller Development Fund
The "Vanderbush-Weller Development fund" was established in honor of longtime Hope professor and football coach Alvin Vanderbush, who retired in 1972 and died in 2005. It was created by Ken and Shirley Weller of Pella, Iowa. Ken Weller is one of Vanderbush's former players and also a former Hope faculty colleague.

Vern and Isla Schipper Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Vern J. and Isla R. Schipper and their family to provide scholarship assistance to a junior or senior level student who shows talent and ability that marks him/her for leadership. Preference given to persons majoring in business or education. Mr. Schipper served as Director of the Build Hope Campaign, Alumni Director and Advancement Officer. Mrs. Schipper was a teacher, an active alumna and a participant in Hope programs.

Verna and Inez Lexo Scholarship Fund
This scholarship is established through the generosity of Inez and Verna Lexo to make a Hope College education available to deserving students. Preference will be given to non-traditional as well as regular students who demonstrate a Christian commitment.

Vernon '44 and Lois Hinkamp '44 Boersma Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Dr. Vernon L. and Mrs. Lois M. Boersma for deserving students with financial need. Preference will be given to students studying the sciences.

Established in memory of Dr. Victor R. Ver Meulen, by his family. This fund will provide scholarship assistance to worthy students displaying Christian leadership and strong academic performance in their chosen fields.

A fund established for purchasing broadcasting equipment or to enhance, maintain or repair facilities within the Communications Department. A scholarship fund to provide financial assistance to deserving students. First preference will be given to those students in the study of theater, broadcasting or the performing arts. This fund was established by Virginia Speaker.

A fund established by the Randall VandeWater family in memory of Virginia VandeWater. This endowed scholarship is to be used to assist worthy female students majoring in physical education.

Walchenbach Family Nursing Scholarship Fund
This Scholarship was established by Donald and Elaine Walchenbach in 2003. Mr. Walchenbach and President Gordon Van Wylen were the architects of Hope College's first nursing program in the late 1970's. The scholarship is intended to provide financial assistance to nursing majors who have financial need. In the event that no nursing majors qualify, it will be awarded to pre-medical majors in the Natural Sciences.

Walter DeRuyter Family Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide assistance to deserving students with financial need. First preference will be given to students pursuing a degree in Nursing. Second preference will be given to students pursing a degree in the Natural Sciences. Given by Marion DeRuyter '62 and Jean DeRuyter in honor of their parents, Walter and Zina DeRuyter.

Walter H. Frei Memorial Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide scholarship assistance for deserving students. Established by Mrs. Mabelle DuMez '26 Frei in memory of her husband.

Walter and Mabelle Frei Scholarship Fund
A fund established through the estate of Mabelle DuMez '26 Frei to provide assistance to deserving students with financial need.

Walter and Mildred Malchow Scholarship Fund
A fund established through the estate of Walter and Mildred Malchow to provide assistance to deserving students, with preference given to those preparing for the ministry.

Warnshuis Scholarship Fund
A fund was established by Mr.and Mrs. Roger L. Warnshuis, Jr. in recognition of the fine tradition of Christian liberal arts education at Hope College. This scholarship was given in memory of Jan Willem Warnhuis (Hope Academy class of 1861), Abbe Livingston Warnshuis (class of 1897), and Frederick Cook Warnshuis (Hon. D.Sc.1922).

Watts Learning Center Fund "Hope Comes To Watts"
A fund initiated to support and grow the relationship between Hope College and The Watts Learning Center, A world-class child centered elementary school located in the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles, California.

Wendell Miles Award in Law
An annual cash award established by Judge Wendell A. Miles in honor of his father, Judge Fred Thomas Miles, presented to a senior student whose promise in the study of law is judged superior by the faculty of the Department of History.

Wesselink Study Abroad Fund
A fund established to provide financial support for deserving Hope College students enrolled in study abroad programs. Priority will be given to students studying abroad for one or more semesters. Given by Linda and David Wesselink of Northbrook, Illinois.

Westrate Scholarship Fund
A fund for deserving students with financial need. This scholarship was established by Millard and Mabel Westrate.

Westveer-Steffens Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide scholarship aid for worthy students facing financial need, with preference for business majors. Established by Maude G. Westveer, June C. Westveer and Margaret Westveer Steffens in memory of William J. Westveer, Willard M. Westveer and Henry J. Steffens.

Wichers Fund for Faculty Development
A gift from Dr. and Mrs. Henri Theil to honor their friend, Willard C. Wichers. The fund is to be used for faculty development.

Wietsche and Nellie Middlebush Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide scholarship aid to a student with high character, financial need and scholarship. Given by Dr. Frederick A. Middlebush in memory of his parents.

Willard Berghorst Scholarship Fund
A scholarship established in honor of Willard J. Berghorst, by his three children, all Hope graduates. It provides assistance to deserving students, with preference given to those pursuing a career in fine arts or education.

Willard G. and Barbara DeGroot Scholarship Fund
A fund established to provide scholarships to outstanding students at Hope, with preference given to a graduate of Holland High School majoring in economics or business administration. Mr. Willard G. DeGroot served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Hope College.

William C. '49 and Mary Blair '44 Bennett Scholarship Fund
A scholarship established by Rev. William C. Bennett and his son, Timothy B. Bennett, in memory of their wife and mother, Mary Blair Bennett. It provides assistance to deserving upperclassman who demonstrate academic competence and leadership abilities.

William Cohen Prize
A fund established in honor of professor emeritus William Cohen to provide resources for an annual prize to a deserving History major. The award recognizes excellence in scholarship by a member of the senior class, whose paper in the History seminar was deemed the most outstanding. Dr. Cohen was Professor of History at Hope from 1971 to 2001, and was responsible for creating the History seminar. With great appreciation, given by Kristin Tichy Pagenkopf, ‘92 and Michael Pagenkopf.

William DeHaan '28 Scholarship Fund
A fund awarded annually to any student demonstrating financial need.

William E. and Marie G. Hunter Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund established by Marie G. Hunter to provide assistance to deserving students, with a preference given to those students majoring in engineering.

William G. and Hendrika Paterson Scholarship Fund
A fund for worthy students with preference given to those students majoring in mathematics or business administration. Given by William and Hendrika Velthuizen Paterson.

William H. and Mary E. Holleman Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide financial assistance to deserving students with financial need. Scholarships are awarded to juniors and seniors demonstrating a commitment to graduate school in the biological or chemical sciences, with preference given to biochemistry. Established by William H. Holleman through the estate of his parents, Hilbert and Norma Holleman. In addition, the fund has been added to by William H. Holleman (chemistry major) and his wife Mary "Betty" Roters Holleman (biology major).

William Hillegonds Scholarship Fund
A fund established in honor of William Hillegonds, who served as Chaplain of Hope College from 1965 to 1978, to provide a scholarship for a worthy student demonstrating financial need. The purpose of the fund is to further inter-cultural contact and understanding, with special emphasis on aiding minority students or students from developing countries or the inner cities of the United States to study at Hope College.

William M. Kolkman Scholarship Fund
For deserving students. Established by Mr. William M. Kolkman in loving memory of Hendrick J. and Gerdena Kolkman, parents; Henry and Nellie Kolkman, brother and sister-in-law; and Christina Kolkman Timmer, sister.

William Randolph Hearst Foundation Scholarship Fund
A fund established through a gift from the Hearst Foundation, Inc. to provide scholarship assistance to deserving students.

William Vander Meer Memorial Scholarship Fund
A fund to provide aid to worthy students, with preference given to students of Chinese heritage every other year.

William and Eileen Wepfer Scholarship
A scholarship established by Richard Wepfer '66 for deserving students with financial need.

William and Mabel Vanderbilt Sr. Family Award
An award established by Mrs. Mabel Vanderbilt Felton in memory of William Vanderbilt, Sr. It is awarded annually to students majoring in physical education and recreation who, in the judgment of the faculty in this department, contributed outstanding service to others.

William and Marilyn Forth Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund established by Dr. William '54 and Mrs. Marilyn Forth to provide assistance to students with financial need who are faced with particular learning challenges such as dyslexia.

William and Marion Beebe Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Mr. and Mrs. William F. Beebe to provide scholarship assistance to deserving students with financial need.

Willis and Florence Jonker Scholarship Fund
The Willis and Florence Jonker Scholarship was established in 1999 by their children Margo Jonker and Duane '75 Jonker-Burke. This scholarship is awarded to any deserving student with preference given to a female student.

Wilma Steketee-Bean Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Wilma Steketee-Bean to provide scholarships for students with demonstrated financial need and given in recognition of Cornelius and Bena DeGraaf Steketee and their descendants.

Windemuller Electric Scholarship Fund
A fund for deserving students with financial need. This scholarship was established by the Windemuller Electric Company.

Winfield J. and Ardith Hollander Scholarship Fund
A fund for deserving students, established by Mr. and Mrs. Winfield J. Hollander of Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Winifred Washburn Scholarship Fund
A scholarship to provide aid for worthy students, with preference given to those pursuing music. Funded through the estate of Winifred Washburn.

Wolterink Family Scholarship Fund
The Wolterink Family Scholarship Fund was established by Tom Wolterink '63 to recognize the legacy of four generations of Wolterink family Hope College graduates. Initial contributions by family and friends were in memory of Paul '38 and Evelyn DeHaan '38 Wolterink. This scholarship is awarded each year to deserving students.

Women's League for Hope Scholarship Fund
A fund established by the Women's League for Hope College to provide scholarships for needy students from the Reformed Church in America.

World Christian Lecture Series Fund
The World Christian Lecture Series has been established to invite recognized Christian thinkers and leaders to join with the Hope and Holland communities in exploring issues that face Christians in the world. The fund was established by an anonymous donor who supports Hope College's continued mission to education students for global leadership in the context of the historic Christian faith. The World Christian Lecture Series, which debuted in 2008, has been established to invite recognized Christian thinkers and practitioners who are leaders in their respective disciplines and areas of expertise to join with the Hope and Holland communities in exploring issues, themes and ideas that face Christians in the world. The annual fall series has been developed with the intention to feature a mix of speakers that can include Christian scholars, artists, preachers, politicians, and industry and church leaders.

Y.T. and An Ti Lin Scholarship Fund
Established by the Reverend Stanley H. Lin '59, in memory of his parents, to provide financial assistance to students with financial need and interest in the Christian ministry.

Yntema Family Faculty Development Fund
A fund established to recognize the many contributions of Prof. and Mrs. Douwe B. Yntema and their children to education. The income from this fund, which was provided through the generosity of Dr. Theodore O. Yntema, is designated for faculty development that furthers excellence in scholarship and teaching.

Zuidema Family Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund for deserving pre-med students, established by Dr. and Mrs. George Zuidema.

deKruif Writing Award for Biology
The Paul deKruif Writing Prizes in biology are meant to increase awareness of writing among biology students and encourage biology students who write well through annual recognition. The prizes were made possible by gifts from Dr. and Mrs. Louis Pepoy and other admirers of Paul deKruif.
