Dr. Peter Schakel of the English faculty has been presented the 49th “Hope Outstanding Professor Educator” (H.O.P.E.) Award by the graduating Class of 2013.

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Scholars Program in the Arts and Humanities at Hope College held its first commencement event on Tuesday, April 16.

Three members of the Hope College faculty will be retiring at the end of the school year: Lynne Hendrix, professor of accountancy; Maura Reynolds, associate professor of Latin and director of advising; and Dr. William Reynolds, dean for the arts and humanities and professor of English.

A Hope College student’s research centered on a long-lived local resident who was passionate about the Holland community has earned national recognition.

Dr. Ernest Cole of the Hope College English faculty will present “The Road of Life: The Dynamics of (Un)Fulfillment and Accomplishment” on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m. in the Maas Center auditorium through the “Last Lecture Series” organized by the college’s Alcor chapter of the national Mortar Board honorary society.

It’s rewarding for an author to be published. It’s also rewarding for a teacher when a student succeeds.

The Jack Ridl Visiting Writers Series of Hope College will feature 1997 Hope graduate and graphic novelist Jeffrey Brown during the Fifth Annual Tom Andrews Memorial Reading on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. at the Knickerbocker Theatre in downtown Holland.

The new memoir by Dr. Rhoda Janzen of the Hope College English faculty picks up where its predecessor left off, and in more ways than one.

On Friday, Sept. 21, the Pine Grove at the center of the Hope College campus will resound with volunteers reading J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit.”

Dr. David Klooster of the Hope College English faculty died on Saturday, June 2, at age 58.  Cause of death was a brain tumor.
