Hope College Commencement Address “And your homework is…”

The 147th Hope College Commencement address was delivered by Dr. Heather Sellers, professor of English, who presented “And your homework is…” on Sunday, May 6. Dr. Sellers has been a member of the Hope faculty since 1995, and teaches poetry, fiction and creative non-fiction. A nationally acclaimed author, she is also highly regarded as a mentor by her students. In 2011, the graduating class presented her with the “Hope Outstanding Professor Educator” (H.O.P.E.) Award.

Hope Honors Four Alumni with Awards

The Hope College Alumni Association honored four alumni during the annual Alumni Banquet. Distinguished Alumni Awards were presented to to Dr. Everett Nienhouse, a member of the Class of 1958 from Ellsworth, Mich., and Carlsbad, Calif.; Dr. Glenn Van Wieren, a member of the Class of 1964 from Holland; and Jacquelyn Van Wieren, a member of the Class of 1967 from Holland. Tom Renner, a member of the Class of 1967 from South Haven received the association's Meritorious Service Award.

Dr. Susanna Childress of the Hope College English faculty has received the 2012 award in poetry from the Society of Midland Authors for her collection “Entering the House of Awe.”

A Faculty Resolution Honoring Jim and Martie Bultman

The Hope College faculty at their final meeting of the academic year on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 honored President and Mrs. Bultman on the occasion of their retirement from service to the college. It was also announced that the faculty will make a monetary gift to the college's Faculty/Staff Minority Scholarship in honor of the Bultmans.

Caroline Simon to Receive Statewide Leadership Award

Dr. Caroline Simon, who is interim dean for the social sciences and professor of philosophy at Hope College, has been chosen to receive a “2012 Distinguished Woman Leader Award” by the Michigan ACE (American Council on Education) Network for Women Leaders in Higher Education.
