Perhaps it’s fitting that Hope and Calvin presidents Jim Bultman and Gaylen Byker are retiring in the same year. They both were student-athletes at the schools over which they would eventually preside. They’ve both been presidents at their institutions for about 15 years. They both married graduates from their alma maters. They’re both tried-and-true Division III guys. And they’re both proud to call each other friends.

The DeWitt Center has served the Hope/Holland community for five decades. Its construction was made possible through a generous donation by alumni brothers Jack and Richard (Dick) DeWitt. Jack DeWitt, Hope class of 1932 and a lifelong advocate of the college, died Friday, Jan. 6, 2012 at the age of 100. Dick DeWitt, Hope class of 1931, died in 2010 at age 96.
