"Echoes
of a Century"
Commemorating
the Centennial of Holland, Michigan
1847-1947
The
Joint Archives has transferred from LP to compact
disc the broadcast program that was prepared
in commemoration of Holland’s centennial
in 1947. “Echoes of a Century” was
professionally recorded by the Netherlands Information
Bureau (NIB) to illustrate the story of Holland,
from the origins of the Dutch settlers’ decision
to immigrate to the New World to the then present-day.
Similar to an old-time radio show, the program,
originally presented on seven over-sized double-sided
33 rpm LPs consists of 13 episodes.

Tulip
Time in Holland
This award-winning
production explores the Tulip Time Festival,
which marked its 75th year in May of 2004, as
a celebration of tradition, heritage, culture,
history and community. The 26-minute film, available
in both VHS video and DVD formats, features interviews
with several community members. The program touches
on topics ranging from the founding of Holland
in the 1840s by Dutch settlers; to traditions
associated with Tulip Time; to the way that the
community’s growing cultural diversity
has shaped the festival and led to new spring
events such as Cinco de Mayo and Juneteenth.
