The Holland Area Historical Society focuses
on the history and heritage of the Holland area. Its programs are designed
to inform the membership through a series of quality presentations,
tours, and other events focusing on the area's past.

Tour of Midtown Center
Tuesday, September 9, 2008 - 2:00-4:00 p.m.
96 West 15th Street, Holland
To kick off the new program year, we will be visiting the newly renovated
Midtown Center and be treated to a guided tour and lecture of the history
of the building and its bright future as a community center for non-profit

Land Conservancy of West Michigan

Dozens of shipwrecks rest in the cold, clear water just off the
shores of Western Michigan. Join members of Michigan Shipwreck
Research Associates as they take you on a visual journey of search
and discovery in the wild waters of Lake Michigan as they explore

First Presbyterian Church
Annual Christmas Potluck

Our annual Christmas potluck is a Holland Area Historical Society tradition.
This year we will visit First Presbyterian Church. A church spokesperson will
describe its history and give a guided tour of the church building. Call 395-7798

Waverly Stone Quarry History

and important to the architectural history of the Holland area. Join
well-known local historian, Randy Vande Water, for an interesting evening
of images and history of this local natural resource.

The history of the Holland Fire Department is both exciting and tragic
because of its constant battle with flames, heat and smoke. Join local
fire department historian Paul Den Uyl as he presents the illustrated
history of this essential emergency service.
History of the Grand River

With the completion of her latest book on the history of the Grand River,
it is only proper that we have Kit Lane, one of Michigan’s most
prolific writers, share more about Michigan’s mightiest river.

The Civil War and Holland, Michigan

The Holland community was deeply interested in the Civil War and sent
many young men to fight for the Union Army. Join Holland Museum Education
Director, Chris Kleinjans, as he uses primary documents and his years
of expertise on the subject to illustrate Holland’s part in the
struggle between North and South.

Olive Township Historical Museum

We bring our program year to a close with a visit to the Olive Township
Historical Museum to learn more about the history of this nearby township
and its rich history. Cost will be $1.00 per person. PLEASE NOTE

HOLLAND AREA
HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION
The major goal of the Society is to bring
together persons with an interest in history and at the same time promote
an awareness in the general public of the cultural heritage of the
Holland area. In accordance with this goal, the Historical Society
sponsors, on a regular basis, a variety of lectures, field trips and
other historical activities. Monies collected through membership fees
and any other fund raising activities go towards financing the activities
of the Society. The Holland Area Historical Society is not affiliated
with the Holland Museum.

Memberships
Individual: $10 per year
- entitles you to vote, hold office and participate in all activities
sponsored by the Society.
Family: $15 per year - covers all members of family;
benefits same as Individual with one vote per family.
Sustaining: $25 per year - this category
is for individuals who would like to provide greater financial
support for the Society.
Life: $300 - enables you to enjoy regular membership
benefits on a continuous basis.
Student: $5 per year - benefits same as Individual.
Senior Citizen: $5 per year - benefits same
as Individual.
Non-Profit Institutional: $15 per year.
Corporate: $50 per year.
