The Holland Area Historical Society focuses
on the history and heritage of the Holland area. Its programs are designed
to inform the membership through a series of quality presentations,
tours, and other events focusing on the area's past.

Padnos Family History
Tuesday, September 8, 2009 – 7:30 p.m.

To kick off the new program year, we will learn about the history of
the Holland area’s first recycling firm, the Louis Padnos Iron & Metal
Company, with the founder’s son, Stuart Padnos.

birth. To celebrate, we will be welcoming Mayor Albert McGeehan,

Tour of Midtown Center
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 – 3:30-4:30 p.m.
96 West 15th Street, Holland
This month, we will take a tour of the newly renovated Midtown
Center. We will be treated to a guided tour and lecture on the
history of the building and its bright future as a community center
for non-profit agencies. PLEASE NOTE SPECIAL TIME.
Western Theological Seminary
Annual Christmas Potluck
Tuesday, December 8, 2009 - 6:30 p.m.

Our annual Christmas potluck is a Holland Area Historical Society tradition.
This year, we will visit Western Theological Seminary and hear past president
Dennis Voskuil describe its history and give a guided tour of the seminary. Reservations
are required; call 395-7798 after November 10 to sign up for a dish to pass.

Holland 2010 Strategic Plan Revisited

In 1988, a strategic plan was created that was meant to provide direction
for the City of Holland in the future. Come listen to two of the plan’s
original writers, Bill Lamb and Lou Hallacy, talk about the outcome of
the “Holland 2010” plan on the year of its intended fruition.
History of the WHTC Radio Station
Tuesday, February 9, 2010 – 7:30 p.m.

In July 1948, 1450 AM WHTC radio station went live and eventually became
known as “Holland’s Hometown Station.” Join longtime
radio personality Juke Van Oss, as he relates the history of the station
and his most memorable moments.
History of Ottawa County Shipwrecks

Shipwrecks abound in the Lake Michigan waters that border Holland to
the west. Come enjoy stories, facts, and photographs of these wrecks
with Craig Rich, one of Holland’s best-known shipwreck hunters.
Baseball in Holland

Saugatuck-Douglas Historical Society
Tuesday, June 8, 2010 – 7:30 p.m.

We bring our program year to a close with a visit to the Saugatuck-Douglas
Historical Society’s newly renovated 1866 Old School House. Learn
more about this nearby community’s rich history and their plans
to share it through this historic building. Cost will be $1.50 per person.

HOLLAND AREA
HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION
The major goal of the Society is to bring
together persons with an interest in history and at the same time promote
an awareness in the general public of the cultural heritage of the
Holland area. In accordance with this goal, the Historical Society
sponsors, on a regular basis, a variety of lectures, field trips and
other historical activities. Monies collected through membership fees
and any other fund raising activities go towards financing the activities
of the Society. The Holland Area Historical Society is not affiliated
with the Holland Museum.

Memberships
Individual: $10 per year
- entitles you to vote, hold office and participate in all activities
sponsored by the Society.
Family: $15 per year - covers all members of family;
benefits same as Individual with one vote per family.
Sustaining: $25 per year - this category
is for individuals who would like to provide greater financial
support for the Society.
Life: $300 - enables you to enjoy regular membership
benefits on a continuous basis.
Student: $5 per year - benefits same as Individual.
Senior Citizen: $5 per year - benefits same
as Individual.
Non-Profit Institutional: $15 per year.
Corporate: $50 per year.
