Ethnic Studies

This page provides access to recommended resources for research in ethnic/multicultural studies.

Finding Articles [help]

Because of the multidisciplinary aspects of Ethnic Studies, the databases you choose will depend on your specific research topic. The descriptors for the same topic may vary from database to database: for instance, “African Americans” is the official heading in HopeCAT, but “blacks” is the official heading in America: History and Life.

America: History and Life - Index to articles on American history, including the experiences of ethnic, immigrant, and other groups
Ethnic NewsWatch - Full-text access to publications from ethnic communities in the U.S. and the world
Contemporary Women’s Issues - Articles, newsletters, book reviews
Social Sciences Abstracts - Anthropology, psychology, sociology, and law
Web of Science - Citation index for all disciplines (1977-present)

Finding Books

HopeCAT - Materials in the collections of Hope College Libraries and Western Theological Seminary
MeLCat - Materials in participating Michigan libraries
WorldCat - Materials in U.S. and international libraries
