In a First Year Seminar at Hope College titled “War: Ancient and Modern,” students set out to make a personal connection to the past. They had to go to Van Wylen library and find and analyze a primary source from World War II.
This could include a wide range of possibilities, such as a first-hand account from someone who fought in the war or worked on the home front, an article from a 1940’s newspaper or journal, or visual images, such as photographs or propaganda posters. This site includes stories of students who took up the challenge to dig into the dust and learn about history right from the source.
