Electronic Collections OnlineFull-text access to many journals is available online through the Electronic Collections Online (ECO) database in FirstSearch. ECO provides electronic full-text access to journals that Van Wylen Library subscribes to through Project Muse, IDEAL, and other subscription agreements. Project Muse titles include humanities journals such as ELH, MLN, and Modern Fiction Studies. IDEAL's scientific journals include Biological Control, Journal of Molecular Biology, and Developmental Review. You can access these journals in several ways. If you have a particular journal title in mind, the simplest method is to connect to HopeCAT from the library's web site. Do a title search for the journal you want. If we have full text access through ECO, a link to the journal will appear near the end of the record.
This link will take you to a display of information about the journal and options for accessing the full-text articles. Use the menu near the top of the screen to navigate between your options. When you click on available issues, you will see a list of volume and issue numbers. The issues that are highlighted are the ones that have full-text availability.
Once you find a citation you want, click the link for full-text access. Some articles will be in PDF format, viewed with Adobe Acrobat. You can also browse a list of all the journal titles Van Wylen Library makes available through ECO. Access FirstSearch and click on the Browse Journal Titles link near ECO on the list of databases.
On the next screen, check the box that lists subscribed-to journals, then click browse journals. You will then see a list of available journals.
You can also connect directly to Project Muse. However, ECO may offer more complete coverage of the journals, so we suggest accessing the journals this way. (Viewing the full text of ECO journals requires a Hope IP address.) February 2001 |
