Jack Holmes, professor of political science at Hope College, and two Hope students co-authored a paper that Holmes presented during the annual meeting of the American Political Science Association in Washington, D.C., during Labor Day weekend.
The paper is titled "U.S. Foreign Policy Moods: A
200-Year Logistic Regression Analysis of Military, Economic, and Consensus Variables."
Kevin DeYoung, who is a junior from Jenison, and 1997 graduate Jason Young of Portage
helped write the paper, which looks at several long-range trends in American policy.
"Kevin and Jason did excellent work on the project and helped make it understandable
to a wider audience," Holmes said.
The trends considered include military, consensus
and economic trends in the United States and world community. The paper looks at ways
the trends can be
measured on an annual basis and relate to one another, and concludes that both long-range
and short-range trends must be examined for an optimum understanding of the forces
involved.
