The Hope College baseball team has received its first-ever berth in the NCAA Division III baseball playoffs.
This spring the Flying Dutchmen, coached by Stu Fritz, captured the championship of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) while posting a school-record 25 wins.
Hope will be part of the Mideast Regional tournament will begins Thursday (May 14) at Thurman Munson Stadium in Canton, Ohio. It will be a six-team, double elimination tournament with the winner
advancing to the Division III World Series in Salem, Virginia.
Other teams in the tournament include Wooster, Ohio, Marietta, Ohio, Ohio Wesleyan, Anderson, Ind., and Mary Washington, Va. Pairings and starting times are to be announced.
Hope becomes the first MIAA team to advance to the NCAA baseball playoffs since 1984. The Flying Dutchmen have won back-to-back MIAA championships with a two-year record of 49-24.
Fritz, in his fifth season as head coach, has guided the Flying Dutchmen to three conference championships. His career record is 86-83-2.
