Hope College is among only 300 colleges in the nation included in the recently-released fifth edition of "Barron's Best Buys in College Education," published by Barron's Educational Series.

Written by Lucia Solorzano, the guide includes
institutions identified as giving students and parents the
best value for their education dollar.  A recent Hope
graduate--now in law school--who is quoted evaluates the
college by noting, "Although I wouldn't call the competition
for grades intense or the classes frustratingly difficult, I
would stack the education provided [at Hope] against that
  obtained at any other school."
The profile begins with a statistical summary that
includes information such as overall enrollment, the
student/faculty ratio, and tuition and fees.  The subsequent
narrative examines characteristics such as the composition
of the student body, the academic program, facilities,
campus life and financial aid.  A senior assesses the
faculty with, "Our faculty care about the growth of
students, as intellects, as personalities, and as human
  beings."
"Barron's Best Buys in College Education" includes
institutions from each of the 50 states.  Those profiled
range from the United States Air Force, Military and Naval
  academies; to the College of William and Mary in Virginia;
to Central College in Iowa; to DePauw University, Earlham
College and the University of Notre Dame in Indiana.
The guide includes nine schools from Michigan.  In
addition to Hope, they are:  Adrian College, Albion College,
Alma College, Calvin College, GMI Engineering and Management
Institute, Hillsdale College, Kalamazoo College and the
  University of Michigan.
