The student Social Activities Committee (SAC) at Hope College received several awards for  promotional materials at the Great Lakes Regional Conference of the National Association of Campus Activities, held in Charleston, W.Va., on Thursday-Sunday, Oct. 29-Nov. 1.

          SAC programs social activities of an all-campus
  nature.  Examples include a film series, and special events
  such as visits by comedians, Siblings' Weekend, the All-
  College Sing and a year-end spring festival.
          SAC received a first place for its Web site
  design; first place in "theme publicity" for 1997's New
  Student Orientation program theme, "Take the Next Step";
  first place in the "multi-color poster" category for its
  promotion for the November, 1997, Las Vegas Night event;
  first place in "non-poster publicity," for a trash can
  listing SAC events scheduled for the fall of 1997; and
  second place in "non-poster publicity," for a magnetic card
  listing SAC events scheduled for the spring of 1998.
          In addition, former Hope staff member Anne Bakker-
  Gras received the NACA "Hall of Fame Award" for her work
  with the association and with the college.  She was director
  of student activities at Hope from 1989 until October of
  this year, when she took a position with Walsworth
  Publishing.
          The NACA Great Lakes Region includes colleges and
  universities from Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, western
  Pennsylvania and West Virginia.  A total of eight Hope
  students attended the conference.
