The 1999 All-MIAA swimming & diving team includes 12 athletes from Hope College.
Sophomore Betsy VandenBerg of Beverly Hills, Mich.
(Southfield Christian HS) has been voted the league's most
valuable female swimmer. She was a triple winner at the
conference championship meet capturing the 100-yard and 200-yard
breaststroke events and the 200-yard individual medley . This is
the 14th consecutive year that a Hope swimmer has been named the
MVP in women's swimming.
Named to the All-MIAA men's team are freshman Josh Boss of
Jenison (Jenison HS), sophomore Chris Dattels of Wilmette, Ill.
(New Trier HS), sophomore Joshua Ficke of Etiwanda, Calif.
(Etiwanda HS), junior Jarod Lippert of Alma (Alma HS) and junior
David Vruggink of Wyoming (Grandville HS). This is the second
that both Dattels and Lippert have been All-MIAA.
Voted to the All-MIAA women's team are junior Colleen Doyle
of Rochester Hills (Marian HS), junior Llena Durante of Chicago,
Ill. (Whitney Young HS), junior Michelle Fangmeier of Inver Grove
Heights (Simley HS), Minn., senior Kari Jackson of Canton,
freshman Laura Smith of Dearborn, junior Erinn Van Auken of
Holland (West Ottawa HS) and Betsy VandenBerg. This is the third
year that Durante and VanAuken have been All-MIAA and the second
year for Jackson and VandenBerg.
