Hope Summer Repertory Theatre is excited to announce the opening of its second production, Tartuffe, which has been hailed as one of the world's greatest comedies. Opening June 23, this promises to be a lively interpretation of Moliere's classic play.
This 17th century satire of religious hypocrisy has not lost its relevance since it was shown over 300 years ago in Paris. Translated by Richard Wilbur, this version includes clever rhyming which underscores the farcical nature of the story. As Tartuffe continues to present one front to the head of the house, Orgon, everyone else, including the audience, realize how his religious fervor is just an act. With Orgon about to lose everything he owns to Tartuffe, it will take a miracle to save the family fortune and name.
The cast of Tartuffe shines as an example of acting talent, and includes five of our equity guest artists, including David Colacci (returning for his ninth season as Artistic Director) as Orgon, Eva Kaminsky (seen in The Glass Menagerie) as Elmire, Dana Snyder (known from his performance as Pancho in Man of La Mancha, and The Compleat Wks of Wllm Shkspr (Abridged)) as Damis, Erica Schroeder (known from her role as the title character in Cinderella, and the Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat) as Dorine, and James Saba (from The Nerd and The Compleat Wks of Wllm Shkspr (Abridged)) as the title character Tartuffe.
Returning to HSRT for her 12th season is director Susan Ericksen. Her past HSRT directing credits include The Tempest, and The Compleat Wks of Wllm Shkspr (Abridged). Ericksen is known to HSRT audiences for her appearances in a number of productions, most recently appearing in the 1999 season's production of SUDS.
The set designer for Tartuffe is Steve Johnson, lighting design is by Paul Whitaker, and Jenny Kenyon is the costume desinger.
This classic comedy opens June 23rd, with performances June 24, 27, 29, July 6, 8, 12, and 13. Given the limited run of this show, we encourage our patrons to acquire tickets quickly.

Tickets are available now. The ticket office is located in the DeWitt Center, on the Hope College Campus at the corner of 12th Street and Columbia Avenue. Prices range from $8-$22 for musicals, and $6-$17 for plays, with discount prices for children 12 and under. Season coupons, ranging from $37-$66, are also available.
