The Distinguished Lecture Series in
Sports Medicine will present five addresses during the 2000-
01 school year.

The series, which will feature a variety of
topics, is designed for health care professionals with an
interest in physically active patients, and is intended for
students, educators and clinicians alike. It is co-
sponsored by Holland Community Hospital, GRSportsCenter and
the college. Admission is free.

The series will open on Wednesday, Sept. 13, with
"Managing Chronic Tendon Injuries in Athletes" by Kevin
Cross of Spectrum Therapy in Palmyra, Va. On Wednesday,
Oct. 25, Dr. Jeff Kovan of Michigan State University in East
Lansing will present "The Asthmatic Athlete." Karen
Rakowski of Midwest Sports Medicine Center in Springfield,
Mo., will present "'Hip' Strategies in the Treatment of
Patellofemoral Pain" on Monday, Nov. 27.

The series will continue in the spring semester on
Monday, Feb. 19, with "Managing Persistent Pain in Athletes"
by Dr. Craig Denegar of Penn State University in University
Park, Pa. The series will conclude for the season on
Tuesday, April 17, with "Managing Sacroiliac Joint
Dysfunction in the Athlete" by Mike Cibulka of Jefferson
County Rehabilitation and Sports Clinic in St. Louis, Mo.

The first four addresses will be held in the
college's Maas Center at 7 p.m. Additional information will
be announced in the spring concerning the April 17 address,
which will be presented in Grand Rapids.
