The Hope College Wind Symphony will
perform its first concert of the year on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at
6:30 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
The evening will feature the music of Williams,
Bernstein, Nelson and Gillingham. David Gillingham composed
the world premiere piece performed at the college's DeVos
Musical Showcase this past spring.
Perhaps most notable will be a performance of
Karel Husa's "Concertino for Piano and Wind Ensemble,"
featuring Hope College's own Jun Okada as piano soloist.
Okada has performed throughout the United States, Japan and
Canada, and has recorded for the Canadian Broadcasting
Company. She is renowned for her command of contemporary
repertoire, especially as an accompanist.
The evening of music will also serve as a prelude
for the college's Critical Issues Symposium. Titled "Gold
Rush & Ghost Towns: Living with the Internet," the symposium
begins in the chapel on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at 8 p.m. and
continues at a variety of campus locations throughout the
day on Wednesday, Oct. 4.
