The Triple Helix, inspired by the dynamic intertwining energies that generate life, will combine piano, violin and cello on Friday, Nov. 3, at 8 p.m. at Hope College in Dimnent Memorial Chapel in the third event of this year's Great Performance Series.

The Triple Helix is composed of three award-
winning and internationally known musicians: violinist
Bayla Keyes, pianist Lois Shapiro, and Holland's own Rhonda
Rider, cellist, who last performed on campus as part of the
Lydian String Quartet.
The evening will include performances of Haydn's
"Piano Trio in C Major," Brahms' "Trio No.1 in B Major" and
Shostakovich's "Piano Trio No.2 in E Minor."
Formed in 1995, the Triple Helix trio is known for
riveting concerts as well as for innovative, engaging
lecture-recitals. The trio has had six compositions written
expressly for it, to which it will soon add a seventh--by
Lee Hyla--after winning a commissioning award from Chamber
Music America.
Of the Triple Helix, the "Boston Globe" has
written, "the trio's freedom results in a spontaneity, an
alchemical reaction that allows for enormously exciting
music-making."
While on campus, the trio will be involved with
Hope students in classes, and will also be running a master
class for the community on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 9:30 a.m.
to noon in Wichers Auditorium of the Nykerk Hall of Music. Five community
chamber groups, including two comprised of area high school
students, will work with the trio on selected pieces. The
public is invited to watch the class free of charge.
Funding for the class was provided by the Amateur Chamber
Music Players Inc.
Prior to the performance on Nov. 3, Black River
Public School is presenting the third part of its Chautauqua
series. BRPS music faculty member Shannon Brunnink will
provide a preview of the concert beginning at 6:45 p.m. in
the basement of Dimnent Memorial Chapel. The Chautauqua
event is free and open to the public.
Dimnent Memorial Chapel is located at 12th Street
and College Avenue.
Tickets will be available beginning Wednesday,
Nov. 1, at the theatre lobby ticket office of the DeWitt
Center, and cost $12.50 for regular adult admission, $10.50
for senior citizens and $6.50 for students. Tickets will
also be available at the door the night of the performance.
The DeWitt Center is located at 12th Street and
Columbia Avenue. The ticket office will be open from 10
a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday-Friday, Nov. 1-3.
