Running the gamut from Bach, to Beethoven to Berio, the Hope College music faculty will perform on Sunday, Nov. 12, at 4 p.m. in Wichers Auditorium of Nykerk Hall of Music.

The public is invited. Admission is free.

The featured composer in this fall's programs is
Johann Sebastian Bach. To open the concert, his Sonata in G
Major, BWV 1019, a work in five movements, will be played by
violinist Mihai Craioveanu and harpsichordist Huw Lewis.
The next composer featured will be Beethoven.

Described by series coordinator Joan Conway as "probably the
greatest writer of Theme and Variations," Beethoven used the
form in composing for many instruments and in orchestral
works. Richard Piippo, cello, and Charles Aschbrenner,
piano, will play his Seven Variations on "Bei Maennern
welche Liebe Fuehlen," Op. 111a.

Ryan Janus, alto saxophonist, will perform the
Sequenza Ixb, written in 1980 by Luciano Berio, an
experimental Italian 20th Century composer.

Soprano Margaret Kennedy-Dygas, with Aschbrenner
at the piano, will sing two songs by Henry Purcell: "Lord,
What is Man?" and "Evening Hymn."

Completing the varied recital, bassoonist Steven
Ward will perform the "Rhapsody for Bassoon" by Willson
Osborne.

Nykerk Hall of Music is located along the former
12th Street between College and Columbia avenues, in the
middle of the Hope campus. Future dates in the series
include January 28, February 4, February 18 and March 11.
