The Hope College Great Performance Series will host Saffire The Uppity Blues Women on Wednesday, Dec. 6, for this season's Bonus Blues Event.
The Hope College Great Performance Series will host Saffire The Uppity Blues Women on Wednesday, Dec. 6, for this season's Bonus Blues Event.
The performance will be at 8 p.m. in the
Knickerbocker Theatre, located at 86 East 8th Street in
downtown Holland.
W.C. Handy Award winners and Alligator recording
artists, these three women--Ann Rabson, Andra Faye and Gaye
Adegbalola--are redefining the acoustic blues scene. Their
recordings and sassy live performances have earned them a
loyal fan following and a surplus of media attention.
The "New York Times" has described the trio's
artistry as "Post feminist traditional blues, sung, and
played with gorgeous abandon." The "Chicago Tribune" has
said, "these three middle-aged women look more like
fugitives from a Tupperware party" but have a "take-no-
prisoners approach."
The group has released six albums, with two of the
artists also doing solo albums. Pianist Ann Rabson recently
released her second solo album, "Struttin' My Stuff."

Tickets will be available to Great Performance
Series season subscribers on Monday-Tuesday, Nov. 27-28, and
to the general public on Wednesday, Nov. 29. The ticket
office is located in the theatre lobby of the DeWitt Center,
and is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
