A diversity training session for all Hope staff members will be held on Monday, Feb. 12, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Maas Center auditorium.
All members of the college's staff are encouraged to attend the event, which is one element of the Comprehensive Plan to Increase Minority Participation at Hope.
The facilitator for the training session will be Dr. Carlos E. Cortes, who is professor emeritus of history at the University of California, Riverside. Dr. Cortes is a widely-published author whose work includes the recently published book "The Children Are Watching: How the Media Teach About Diversity." He has been recognized as a National Multicultural Trainer of the Year by the American Society for Training Development.
His other works and contributions include film and television documentaries. His other teaching appointments include serving on the summer faculty of the Harvard Institutes for Higher Education, as well as on the faculty of the Summer Institute for Intercultural Communication.
All supervisors are aware of the training session. Staff members planning to attend should make appropriate arrangements with their supervisor in order to minimize the impact of their absence while doing so.
