The Distinguished Lecture Series in
Sports Medicine at Hope College will examine the management
of persistent pain in athletes on Monday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m.
in the Maas Center.

The public is invited. Admission is free.

The address will be delivered by Dr. Craig Denegar
of Penn State University. He will consider the way that
pain can continue even after healing has eliminated other
symptoms of the related injury. According to Denegar, the
causes of persistent pain can range from physical to mainly
psychological, but that in any case pain signals that
something is wrong. His talk will include suggestions for
evaluating and treating athletes with such symptoms.

Denegar is a certified athletic trainer and
physical therapist at Penn State University, where he
directs the university's athletic training program. He is
the author of many research articles and textbooks, and has
lectured on persistent pain both in the U.S. and Japan.

The Distinguished Lecture Series in Sports
Medicine is designed for health care professionals with an
interest in physically active patients, and is intended for
students, educators and clinicians alike. It is co-
sponsored by Holland Community Hospital, GRSportsCenter and
the college.
