The Hope College Visiting Writers
Series will host poets Allison Joseph and Van Jordan on
Thursday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m. in the Knickerbocker Theatre in
conjunction with both Women's Week and Black History Month.

conjunction with both Women's Week and Black History Month.
The reading will be preceded by the Hope College
Jazz Ensemble beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
Allison Joseph is the author of three collections
of poetry: "What Keeps Us Here" (1992), "Soul Train"
(1997), and "In Every Seam" (1997). "What Keeps Us Here"
was the winner of Ampersand Press' 1992 Women Poets Series
Competition, and was also awarded the John C. Zacharis First
Book Award from "Ploughshares" and Emerson College. Joseph
is a graduate of Kenyon College and Indiana University, and
now teaches at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.
Van Jordan's first collection of poems, "Rise,"
will be published this year by Tia Chucha Press. He was a
semi-finalist in the 1999 Discovery/Nation Poetry Awards,
and was also a recipient of the Hughes, Diop, Knight Award
from the Gwendolyn Brooks Center. His poetry has appeared
in journals such as "Seneca Review," "Brilliant Corners" and
"Arkansas Review." Jordan has a bachelor of arts degree
from Wittenburg College, a master of arts from Howard
University and a master of fine arts from Warren Wilson.
The Knickerbocker Theatre is located at 86 East
