The 17th annual Women's Week at Hope
College will begin on Monday, Feb. 19, and will feature a
variety of public presentations.

College will begin on Monday, Feb. 19, and will feature a
variety of public presentations.
Women's Week is a celebration scheduled in
recognition of women, and this year's focus will be "Courage
and Vision." The event, which actually runs two weeks, will
continue through Saturday, March 3, and is scheduled to
coincide with national Women's History Month, which is
March.
The public is invited to several of the events.
Admission is free.
The week's keynote lecture, "Courage and
Conviction to STAND," will be presented by Dr. Betty
Lovelace on Monday, Feb. 19, at 8 p.m. in Wichers Auditorium
of Nykerk Hall of Music.
Lovelace is director of multicultural affairs at
Denison University in Granville, Ohio. She previously
served as executive administrator in a variety of
educational, community and business settings, responsible
for developing and implementing innovative training programs
on managing cultural diversity.
She has been a consultant for more than 20 years,
and has done extensive work within the areas of racial
identity, multiculturalism, leadership development, conflict
management, team building, coaching and counseling, and
career planning. She has also spoken at numerous
conferences and professional organizations on the topic of
diversity.
In addition to her work at Denison, she is a
consultant with Chambers Consulting Services, a Columbus-
based firm, where during 1992-94 she was instrumental in co-
developing a training program for Honda of America,
Manufacturing.
The Hope College Visiting Writers Series will host
poets Allison Joseph and Van Jordan on Thursday, Feb. 22, at
7 p.m. in the Knickerbocker Theatre in conjunction with both
Women's Week and Black History Month. The reading will be
preceded by the Hope College Jazz Ensemble beginning at 6:30
p.m.
There will be an opening reception for the
exhibition "Patterns," featuring work by visual artist
Katherine Kadish and poet Jackie Bartley, on Friday, Feb.
23, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the gallery of the De Pree Art
Center. In addition, Bartley will give a reading in
conjunction with the exhibition on Thursday, March 1, at 7
p.m. in the gallery.
The exhibition will continue through Friday, March
23. The gallery is open Monday through Saturday from 10
a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Tuesday, Feb. 27, will feature the panel
discussion "Women and God" at 11:30 a.m. in the Phelps Hall
Otte Room. A service of celebration and worship, featuring
the Rev. Kama Jongerius-Zuidema and the Rev. Kathy Davelaar,
will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. in Mulder Chapel
at Western Theological Seminary.
There will be a "Women's Health Fair" on
Wednesday, Feb. 28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Maas
Center auditorium. The health fair will feature health care
professionals, services and displays that provide
informational and educational materials from area
organizations. They will focus on women's health, including
mental, physical, spiritual and emotional health.
In addition to the events open to the general
public, Women's Week will feature a number of activities
designed for the Hope campus community.
