The Hope College Jazz Ensemble will precede the
reading at 6:30 p.m.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
M. Evelina Galang's short stories have appeared in
journals such as "Mid-American Review," "The Crescent
Review," "Calyx," "American Short Fiction" and "Quarterly
West." Much of her writing draws on her experiences as a
Filipino-American, and her Filipino heritage.
The title story of her collection of short
fiction, "Her Wild American Self" (Coffee House Press,
1996), has been short-listed by the "Best American Short
Stories" and the Pushcart Prize. Galang was awarded the
Associated Writers Program Intro Award in nonfiction in
1993, and was the John Gardner Scholar in Fiction at the
Bread Loaf Writer's Conference in 1994. She is a member of
the Creative Writing faculty of Iowa State University.
Dana Levin's first collection of poetry, "In the
Surgical Theatre," was the winner of the 1999 APR/Honickman
First Book Prize. Her work has also appeared in journals
such as the "Boston Review," "American Poetry Review,"
"Ploughshares" and "Countermeasures," and the anthology
"American Poetry: The Next Generation" (Carnegie Mellon,
2000).
Levin received the 2000 Witter Bynner Prize from
the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the 2000 GLCA New
Writers Award and a 1998 Pushcart Prize. She teaches at the
College of Santa Fe in New Mexico.
