The Hope College Orchestra will open its 2001-02 season on Friday, Oct. 19, at 8 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.

The concert, under the direction of Richard Piippo, will feature faculty soloist Linda Dykstra, soprano.

The public is invited. Admission is free.

The concert will begin with the "Overture to Zampa," by Ferdinand Herold. Herold, who died at the early age of 42, was considered one of the rising stars of French opera. The "Overture to Zampa" is the best known and most often performed of his works.

Following the Overture, the orchestra will accompany Linda Dykstra in two arias: "Marietta's Song" from "Die Tote Stadt" by Erich Korngold and "Song to the Moon" from "Rusalka" by Antonin Dvorak.

The concert will conclude with the Symphony No. 5 in c minor by Beethoven.

Dimnent Memorial Chapel is located on College Avenue at 12th Street.
