Alvin Slaughter will perform in concert with the Hope College Gospel Choir on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.
Opening worship will be provided by "Perfecting Praise," which is a chorale ministry of Maple Avenue Ministries.
Tickets for general seating are $5 each, and may be purchased beginning Friday, Feb. 1, at the college's Campus Ministries Office weekdays from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The office may be called at (616) 395-7145.
Dove & Stellar Award-nominated, inspirational and gospel music recording artist Alvin Slaughter is an internationally known worship leader who has released six Hosanna Music recordings, including his newest recording, "Rain Down." Slaughter has appeared on the Trinity Broadcasting Network as well as the Christian Broadcasting Network.
The Hope College Gospel Choir started in 1970 as an extension of the Black Student Coalition. In 1992, Vanessa Allen and Darnisha Taylor become co-directors and formally organized the choir. Taylor served as director until the spring of 2001. In the fall of 2001, Christopher J. Kingdom-Grier became director. Kingdom-Grier holds a bachelor's degree in visual and performing arts with a concentration in vocal music, and a master of education degree in educational leadership with a concentration in higher education administration, and has several years' experience providing leadership to large organized choirs.
The college's Campus Ministries Office is located in the Keppel House at 129 E. 10th St., between College and Columbia avenues. Dimnent Memorial Chapel is located on College Avenue at 12th Street.
