The Hope College football schedule has been expanded to 10 games beginning with the 2002 season, according to Ray Smith, director of men's athletics.

Except for the times when they advanced to post-season play, Hope football teams have been playing nine-game schedules since 1968. Hope has sponsored intercollegiate football since 1902. In the early years the schedule averaged four-to-six games per season and in the early 1950s it expanded to eight.

The MIAA has allowed a ten-game season since 2000. The recent addition of Wisconsin Lutheran College as a football-playing conference member has facilitated Hope moving to the ten-game slate which will consist of four non-league dates and six against MIAA foes.
