Hope College senior Marcus Voss of Holland (Zeeland HS) has been voted an NCAA Division III soccer All-American for the second year in-a-row.
Voss was voted the All-American first team goalkeeper by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
Voss is the seventh Hope men's soccer player to achieve All-America distinction and just the second to be named to the first team.
He is the third Hope goalkeeper to be honored. Assistant Hope coach Lee Schopp was a two-time All-American for the Flying Dutchmen in 1992 and 1993. He was named to the first team as a senior. Also honored as a goalkeeper was Aaron Angeli in 1995.
The Flying Dutchmen posted a 17-5-1 record this year gaining a co-championship of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association and advancing to the regional finals of the NCAA Division III championships. The team had 11 shutouts as Voss allowed only 15 goals in 23 games. He did not allow a goal in three NCAA tournament games.
Voss had 39 career shutouts and allowed just 56 goals over 83 collegiate games.
Co-captain of this year's team, he has been a three-time Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) first team honoree.
Joining Hope's trio of goalkeeper honorees have been All-Americans Jeff Utzinger (1992), Blake Richards (1994), John Conlon (1995) and Sean Toohey (1996).
Voss is the only MIAA men's soccer player to achieve All-America honors this season. Albion College senior Stacey Supanich was named a women's soccer All-American for the second year in-a-row.
