The Hope College Chapel Choir will travel east during the college's spring break.
The Chapel Choir will perform in Indiana, West Virginia, Washington, D.C., New Jersey and New York from Thursday, March 13, through Thursday, March 20.
The tour will include auditioned appearances at the Washington National Cathedral and the Basilica of the National Shrine in Washington, D.C. Of the Chapel Choir's 30-minute audition tape, the National Shrine wrote, "They are an outstanding ensemble... we receive many choral audition tapes every year, and yours was one of the best."
The choir will perform at Christ's Community Church in Fort Wayne, Ind., on Thursday, March 13; at Trinity Episcopal Church in Martinsburg, W.Va., on Friday, March 14; at the Washington National Cathedral on Saturday, March 15; at the Basilica of the National Shrine on Sunday, March 16; at Community Reformed Church in Whiting, N.J., and at Ponds Reformed Church in Oakland, N.J., on Monday, March 17; at Bowne St. Community Church in Flushing, N.Y., on Tuesday, March 18; and at Marble Collegiate Church in New York City on Thursday, March 20.
The choir will also present a "Home Concert" in Holland at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, located at 13th Street and Maple Avenue, on Monday, March 24, at 8 p.m.
The Chapel Choir was organized in 1929 and began touring annually in 1953. The choir has toured extensively in the United States and Canada, and has made a European tour six times.
The choir has 44 members, selected by audition. The choir is directed by Brad Richmond, director of choral activities and associate professor of music at Hope.
The college's Symphonette instrumental group also often conducts a spring break tour, but instead this year will be touring England and Wales in May. Performances during the Symphonette's May 6-17 tour will include concerts in Cardiff and St. David's, and at Coventry Cathedral.
