The Hope men's tennis team made school and MIAA history Tuesday handing Kalamazoo its first league dual match defeat since 1962.
Playing at Kalamazoo's Stowe Stadium, coach Steve Gorno's Flying Dutchmen swept the doubles and won four of six in singles to gain the 7-2 triumph.
The loss is Kalamazoo's first in MIAA dual match competition since April 22, 1962 when Hope also beat the Hornets 4-3. Up until Tuesday Kalamazoo had put together a string of 241 consecutive MIAA dual match victories.
The winning streak had been recognized as the longest by any amateur, high school, college or professional team in America.
It was also only the second loss by Kalamazoo against MIAA opponents dating back to 1936. During that span the Hornets have been 396-2.
