For the second consecutive year, a student team from Hope College has won the Lower Michigan Mathematics Competition.

The contest was held on Saturday, April 5, at Saginaw Valley State University. The winning three-member team from Hope consisted of freshman Daniela Banu of Bucharest, Romania; sophomore Stefan Coltisor of Bucharest, Romania; and senior Caleb Gleason of Hudsonville. Coltisor and Gleason were also on Hope's winning team last year.

A total of 17 teams, with two or three members each, participated, from six colleges and universities and two high schools from across lower Michigan.

Hope was represented by 11 students organized into four teams. The other eight participating Hope students were: junior Allison Bultemeier of Fort Wayne, Ind.; sophomore Henry Gould of Zeeland; junior Nathan Kooistra of Burnsville, Minn.; freshman Nathan Makowski of Detroit; sophomore Michael Rininger of Holland; freshman Ryan Weaver of Saline; sophomore Andrew Wells of Midland; and freshman Kyle Williams of Plainwell.

In addition to Hope, the colleges and universities that fielded teams were Albion College, Grand Valley State University, Kalamazoo College, Lawrence Tech University and Saginaw Valley State University. The participating high schools were Mattawan and Ann Arbor Pioneer.
