The Flying Dutchmen will host the Tigers of DePauw University Saturday (Sept. 13) for the 38th annual Hope/Holland Community Day game. Kickoff at Holland Municipal Stadium will be 1:30 p.m.

The game will be broadcast by WHTC-AM (1450) and WFUR-FM (102.9). The WHTC broadcast will also be available on the internt through yahoo.com

The Hope/DePauw football rivalry started in 1951. Hope holds a slim 17-16 advantage in the series. A year ago the Tigers prevailed in Greencastle, 28-21.

Hope lost its season opener to Wooster 45-36 while DePauw began the 2003 season with a 28-26 victory over Rhodes, Tenn.

Hope amassed 510 yards total offense against Wooster with most coming from passes (426 yards). DePauw had a balanced attack against Rhodes, gaining 222 yards rushing and 217 from passes.

DePauw had five turnovers in its season opener while Hope turned over the football twice.

The Flying Dutchmen came through its season opener injury-free with no changes anticipated in two-deep roster. DePauw reported several injuries that could affect the Tigers' starting lineup.

DePauw coach Nick Mourouzis announced before the start of the season that this is his last. In 22 years against Hope, he stands 11-11. His career 134-82-4 record ranks him tenth among all active NCAA Division III coaches.

Hope quarterback Phil Butler (Howard City) was voted the MIAA Offensive Player of the Week for the fourth time in his career. Against Wooster he passed for over 400 yards for the third time in his career completing 30-of-49 passes for 426 yards. His career best is 477 yards against Wisconsin Lutheran last year. His career numbers continue to mount -- 414 completions for 5,619 yards and 58 touchdowns.

Jeff Eldersveld's (East Grand Rapids) 176 yards from pass receptions against Wooster was the third best single game effort in school history. The record is 210 yards by Joel Solomon against Wisconsin Lutheran last fall.

Punter Seth Kovarik (Traverse City) had a successful collegiate kicking debut, averaging 38.0 yards on five tries against Wooster. The same was true for placekicker Nate Barnett (Goodrich) who was four-for-four on PATs. He has kicked seven in-a-row going back to last season and is 15-for-17 in his career.
